Abstract:Relativistic information entropy was introduced by considering the uncertainties in multi–environmental time similarity (METS) theory for the purpose of predicting the service time of new coastal concrete structures. The similarity ratios of surface chloride concentration and diffusion coefficient between indoor accelerated and outdoor natural environment were established on METS theory. The parameters' variance was considered by applying relativistic information entropy. The prior information was obtained by combining the information of the field inspection and the indoor accelerated tests. The approach has already applied to a crossing–sea bridge in eastern China. The service life was calculated by using Monte Carlo method under a given target reliability. Furthermore, concrete specimens with the same material as the bridge were placed on a field exposure station and the chloride ions concentration was measured regularly. The service–life estimation resulted from the pre–information obtained by considering the objective and subjective uncertainties appears to be conservative and reliable.
