Abstract:ZnO nanotetrapods with mean arm diameters of 70, 100, 130, and 165 nm, respectively, were obtained through chemical vapor transfer deposition. The phase and morphology of the ZnO nanotetrapods were investigated using X-ray diffraction spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Photoanode architectures in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) comprising building blocks of varied arm sizes of ZnO nanotetrapods were introduced. DSSCs based on varied arm sizes of ZnO nanotetrapods were successfully fabricated using the doctor blade technique, and the cell performances were characterized. The highest photoconversion efficiency (eta) of 3.21% was achieved using the smallest arm diameter of the ZnO tetrapod film photoanode, which exhibited a shortcircuit current of 9.49 mAcm(-2), an opencircuit voltage of 0.649 V, and a fill factor of 0.52 under AM 1.5 irradiation. A variation in. of the DSSCs with the varied arm sizes of ZnO nanotetrapods was observed-eta of the DSSCs increased with the decreasing arm diameter of ZnO nanotetrapods.
