Abstract:Let M n be a compact Willmore submanifold in the unit sphere S n+p . In this note, we investigate the first eigenvalue of the Schrödinger operator L = −Δ−q on M, where q is some potential function on M, and present a gap estimate for the first eigenvalue of L.

Abstract:In this paper, we reformulate the Euler-Lagrange equations of Willmore surfaces in S-n as the flatness of a family of certain loop algebra-valued 1-forms. Therefore we can give the Weierstrass type representation of conformal Willmore surfaces. We also discuss the relations between conformal Willmore surfaces in S-n and minimal surfaces in constant curvature spaces S-n, R-n, H-n, and prove that some special Willmore surfaces can be derived from minimal surfaces in S-n, R-n, H-n.

Abstract:Let M 2 be a compact Willmore surface in the (2 + p )-dimensional unit sphere S 2 + p . Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M 2 , respectively. Set ρ 2 = S −2 H 2 . In this note, we proved that there exists a universal positive constant C , such that if ∥ ρ 2 ∥ 2 < C , then ρ 2 =0 and M 2 is a totally umbilical sphere.

Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

In fact, we obtain an integral inequality of Simons' type for compact Willmore submanifolds in Sn+p and give a characterization of Willmore tori and Veronese surface by use of our integral inequality.

Abstract:Suppose M is a m-dimensional submanifold without umbilic points in the (m + p)-dimensional unit sphere S m+ p .Four basic invariants of M m under the Möbius transformation group of S m+ p are a symmetric positive definite 2-form g called the Möbius metric, a section B of the normal bundle called the Möbius second fundamental form, a 1-form called the Möbius form, and a symmetric (0, 2) tensor A called the Blaschke tensor.In the Möbius geometry of submanifolds, the most important examples of Möbius minimal submanifolds (also called Willmore submanifolds) are Willmore tori and Veronese submanifolds.In this paper, several fundamental inequalities of the Möbius geometry of submanifolds are established and the Möbius characterizations of Willmore tori and Veronese submanifolds are presented by using Möbius invariants.

Abstract:In [17] the third author presented Moebius geometry for sub-manifolds in Sn and calculated the first variational formula of the Willmore functional by using Moebius invariants. In this paper we present the second variational formula for Willmore submanifolds. As an application of these variational formulas we give the standard examples of Willmore hypersurfaces $ \lbrace W_{k}^{m}:= S^{k}(\sqrt {(m-k)/m}) \times S^{m-k}(\sqrt {k/m}), 1 \leq k \leq m-1 \rbrace $ in Sm+1 (which can be obtained by exchanging radii in the Clifford tori $ S^{k}(\sqrt {k/m}) \times S^{m-k}(\sqrt {(m-k)/m)})$ and show that they are stable Willmore hypersurfaces. In case of surfaces in S3, the stability of the Clifford torus $ S^{1}{({1\over \sqrt {2}})}\times S^{1}{({1\over \sqrt {2}})} $ was proved by J. L. Weiner in [18]. We give also some examples of m-dimensional Willmore submanifolds in an n-dimensional unit sphere Sn.

Abstract:Let $ x{:}\ M\rightarrow S^{n+p} $ be an n-dimensional submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional unit sphere S n + p , M is called a Willmore submanifold (see [11], [16]) if it is a critical submanifold to the Willmore functional $\int_M(S-nH^2)^{\frac{n}{2}}d\nu$, where $ S=\sum_{\alpha,i,\,j}(h^\alpha_{ij})^2 $ is the square of the length of the second fundamental form, H is the mean curvature of M. In [11], the second author proved an integral inequality of Simons’ type for n-dimensional compact Willmore submanifolds in S n + p . In this paper, we discover that a similar integral inequality of Simons’ type still holds for the critical submanifolds of the functional $\int_M(S-nH^2)d\nu$. Moreover, it has the advantage that the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equation is simpler than the Willmore equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the blow-up of Willmore surfaces. By using the 3-circle theorem, we prove a decay estimate of the second fundamental form along the neck region. This estimate provides a new perspective and streamlined proofs to a few key results in this field, such as the energy identity(quantization), removable singularities and gap theorem.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to studying the conformal Willmore functional for surfaces in $4$-dimensional conformal manifolds. We calculate the first and second variation. The Euler-Lagrange equation of this functional is stated in a conformal invariant form. Based on the second variation formula we obtained, we prove that the Clifford torus in $\mathbb{C}P^2$ is strongly Willmore-stable. This provides strong support to the conjecture of Montiel and Urbano, which states that the Clifford torus in $\mathbb{C}P^2$ minimizes the Willmore functional among all tori. In $4$-dimensional locally symmetric spaces, by constructing several holomorphic differentials, we prove that among all minimal $2$-spheres only those super-minimal ones can be Willmore.

Abstract:In the past decades, the authors made some systematic research on global and local properties of Willmore surfaces in terms of the DPW method. In this note we give a survey, mainly including the basic framework of the DPW method for the global geometry of Willmore surfaces via the conformal Gauss map, applications on constructions of Willmore $2$-spheres, characterizations of minimal surfaces, Willmore deformations of Willmore surfaces and Bjoerling problems for Willmore surfaces. Moreover, we also obtained some results on harmonic maps via DPW, including a duality theorem for harmonic maps into an inner non-compact symmetric space and its dual inner compact symmetric space, and harmonic maps of finite uniton type.

Perelman's functionals on manifolds with non-isolated conical singularities

Abstract:In this article, we define Perelman's functionals on manifolds with non-isolated conical singularities by starting from a spectral point of view for the Perelman's $\lambda$-functional. (Our definition of non-isolated conical singularities includes isolated conical singularities.) We prove that the spectrum of Schrödinger operator $-4\Delta + R$ on manifolds with non-isolated conical singularities consists of discrete eigenvalues with finite multiplicities, provided that scalar curvatures of cross sections of cones have a certain lower bound. This enables us to define the $\lambda$-functional on these singular manifolds, and further, to prove that the infimum of $W$-functional is finite, with the help of some weighted Sobolev inequalities. Furthermore, we obtain some asymptotic behavior of eigenfunctions and the minimizer of the $W$-functional near the singularity, and a more refined optimal partial asymptotic expansion for eigenfunctions near isolated conical singularities. We also study the spectrum of $-4\Delta + R$ and Perelman's functionals on manifolds with more general singularities, i.e. the $r^{\alpha}$-horn singularities which serve as prototypes of algebraic singularities.

Restriction of Schrödinger eigenfunctions to submanifolds

Abstract:Burq-Gérard-Tzvetkov and Hu established $L^p$ estimates for the restriction of Laplace-Beltrami eigenfunctions to submanifolds. We investigate the eigenfunctions of the Schrödinger operators with critically singular potentials, and estimate the $L^p$ norms and period integrals for their restriction to submanifolds. Recently, Blair-Sire-Sogge obtained global $L^p$ bounds for Schrödinger eigenfunctions by the resolvent method. Due to the Sobolev trace inequalities, the resolvent method cannot work for submanifolds of all dimensions. We get around this difficulty and establish spectral projection bounds by the wave kernel techniques and the bootstrap argument involving an induction on the dimensions of the submanifolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that on a compact manifold with isolated conical singularity the spectrum of the Schr\"odinger operator $-4\Delta+R$ consists of discrete eigenvalues with finite multiplicities, if the scalar curvature $R$ satisfies a certain condition near the singularity. Moreover, we obtain an asymptotic behavior for eigenfunctions near the singularity. As a consequence of these spectral properties, we extend the theory of the Perelman's $\lambda$-functional on smooth compact manifolds to compact manifolds with isolated conical singularities.
$L^q$ Estimates on the Restriction of Schrödinger Eigenfunctions with singular potentials

Abstract:We consider eigenfunction estimates in $L^p$ for Schrödinger operators, $H_V=-\Delta_g+V(x)$, on compact Riemannian manifolds $(M, g)$. Eigenfunction estimates over the full manifolds were already obtained by Sogge \cite{Sogge1988concerning} for $V\equiv 0$ and the first author, Sire, and Sogge \cite{BlairSireSogge2021Quasimode}, and the first author, Huang, Sire, and Sogge \cite{BlairHuangSireSogge2022UniformSobolev} for critically singular potentials $V$. For the corresponding restriction estimates for submanifolds, the case $V\equiv 0$ was considered in Burq, Gérard, and Tzvetkov \cite{BurqGerardTzvetkov2007restrictions}, and Hu \cite{Hu2009lp}. In this article, we will handle eigenfunction restriction estimates for some submanifolds $\Sigma$ on compact Riemannian manifolds $(M, g)$ with $n:=\dim M\geq 2$, where $V$ is a singular potential.
