Abstract:The problem of stability analysis for switched linear systems is studied based on the properties of the quadratic form. With the introduction of energy velocity matrix and negative definite space, sufficient conditions for asymptotical stability, instability under arbitrary switching sequence and asymptotical stability under special switching sequence are reached which can be applied to study some types of switched linear systems. These conditions can be applied not only to study the problem of stability analysis for switched linear systems, but also to design the stable switching sequence for a switched linear system. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed methods.

Abstract:This paper presents a condition in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems. With Matlab, it is very convenient to solve this problem. Necessity shows that the condition is less conservative in some cases. The illustrative example shows that this method is effective to check the quadratic stability of discrete-time interval 2-D systems.

Abstract:Via a nonlinear power transformation, the robust stability problem of dynamic interval systems has been transformed into a nonsingularity problem of a family of parametric matrices. Based on the nonsingularity of robustly diagonal dominant matrices, sufficient conditions for the robust stability of dynamic interval systems are derived. These conditions do not impose any requirements on the elements of the system matrices.

Abstract:The problem of stability analysis for a class of switched linear systems is studied in this paper based on the theory of matrix measure. The matrix measures of all subsystems are used to determine the stability of the switched linear systems. Based on this, sufficient conditions are reached, which can be used to determine the stability or instability of switched linear systems under arbitrary switching law. If a switching sequence satisfies some conditions, a theorem in this paper can be used to verify if it can stabilize the systems. The obtained conditions are simpler than the reported methods such as multi-Lyapunov functions and hence are easier to check. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate these conditions.

Abstract:With the linear matrix inequalities (LMI) method, this paper investigates the stability of a class of hybrid systems with uncertain nonlinear subsystems. Based on single Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions of this system for global asymptotic stability are proposed. Furthermore, using the method of piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions of this system for local asymptotic stability are derived. By applying the result, the sufficient conditions of stability can be formulated as a convex problem in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be solved by relevant software.

However, to distinguish H-matrices is difficult in real applications. In this paper, a practical extension of the sufficient conditions for H-matrices is investigated under some conditions. A larger scale of H-matrices which can be judged by the proposed method is shown by the numerical examples.

Abstract:Technical stability allowing quantitative estimation of trajectory behavior of a dynamical system over a given time interval was considered. Based on a differential comparison principle and a basic monotonicity condition, technical stability relative to certain prescribed state constraint sets of a class of nonlinear time-varying systems with small parameters was analyzed by means of vector Liapunov function method. Explicit criteria of technical stability are established in terms of coefficients of the system under consideration. Conditions under which the technical stability of the system can be derived from its reduced linear time-varying (LTV) system were further examined, as well as a condition for linearization approach to technical stability of general nonlinear systems. Also, a simple algebraic condition of exponential asymptotic stability of LTV systems is presented. Two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the availability of the presently proposed method.

Abstract:A sufficient stability test for linear time-varying systems is proposed by constructing a bounding envelope in which the states of the system are guaranteed to reside. Successive approximations using ellipsoids are performed to build the envelope. The proposed stability assessment method is less conservative than the existing ones and the necessity of point-wise Hurwitz condition is bypassed. The proposed sufficient stability conditions have been transformed into constraints on design parameters to design gain-scheduled controllers which stabilize time-varying systems. Examples are given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of stability analysis of linear neutral time delay systems. First, a new simple Lyapunov‐Krasovskii functional is constructed based on delay partitioning approach, then, a novel improved delay‐dependent stability criterion is established to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the neutral system. The obtained stability criterion is expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be verified easily by means of standard software. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and the advantage over some existing results.

Abstract:This paper is motivated by the stability problem of nonconstant periodic solutions of time‐periodic Lagrangian equations, like the swing and the elliptic Sitnikov problem. As a beginning step, we will study the linearized stability and instability of nonconstant periodic solutions that are bifurcated from those of autonomous Lagrangian equations. Applying the theory for Hill equations, we will establish a criterion for linearized stability. The criterion shows that the linearized stability depends on the temporal frequencies of the perturbed systems in a delicate way.

Abstract:Hyper-exponential stability analysis and hyper-exponential stabilization of linear systems by bounded linear time-varying feedback are investigated in this paper. On the one hand, we propose some Lyapunov-like hyper-exponential stability theorems (both global and local) based on the comparison principle and the concepts of hyper-exponentially stable functions and hyper-exponentially increasing functions. On the other hand, we establish methods to design bounded linear time-varying controllers such that hyper-exponential stability of linear time-invariant systems can be guaranteed. The key design tool is the utilization of a time-varying parameter contained in the controller and the properties of solution to a parametric Lyapunov equation. Both state feedback and observer-based output feedback are accommodated. As a further result, hyper-exponential semi-global stabilization for linear systems by bounded controls is discussed. Finally, the validity of the proposed schemes is illustrated through numerical simulations on spacecraft rendezvous control system.

Abstract:This paper studies exponential stability and stabilization of linear time-varying systems without assuming that the coefficient matrix is bounded, which is generally necessary in the existing literature. First, by introducing the notions of uniformly exponentially stable and uniformly exponentially expanding functions, some Lyapunov differential inequalities based characterizations for exponential stability of linear time-varying systems are established. Second, it is shown that the linear time-varying system is both uniformly exponentially stable and uniformly exponentially expanding if and only if the corresponding Lyapunov differential equation has a unique positive definite solution. Third, some degenerated Lyapunov differential equations, where the Q matrix is only positive semi-definite, are also re-examined. Finally, a weighted controllability Gramian, which contains a weighting time-varying function that can be properly designed to reveal a trade-off between the convergence rate/regulation time of the closed-loop system and the control effort, based stabilization approach is established to ensure that the closed-loop system is both uniformly exponentially stable and uniformly exponentially expanding. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by the design of the spacecraft attitude control system with magnetic actuation.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of asymptotic stability for linear time-varying systems of the form ẋ(t)=A(t)x(t). Some new stability conditions are proposed. First, two stability conditions for nonlinear time-varying systems are given by using non-monotonic Lyapunov functions. Then the results obtained are extended to the linear case, two stability conditions with infinite integral are derived. Furthermore, by using the top-floor function, a linear matrix inequalities (LMI) condition and an eigenvalue criterion for asymptotic stability of systems are presented. Comparing with the existing results, the conditions obtained allow both A(t) and Ȧ(t) are unbounded at t=+∞. Some numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper analyses the stability problem of linear systems with interval time-varying delay. In regard to the delay, it has the lower and upper bounds and its derivative is unknown or itself is not differentiable. First of all, it is the first time that the delay-related triple integral terms are used to construct the augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) and the delay-related integral quadratic terms are estimated by the third-order free-matrix-based integral inequalities (TFIIs). Then, based on the same LKF and same TFIIs and by introducing two sets of state vectors, the derivative of the LKF is presented as the quadratic and quintic polynomials about the delay respectively. Next, for the quadratic and quintic polynomials, new negative definite conditions (NDCs) are provided to form the linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions. Finally, the advantages of these two criteria are checked through some classical numerical examples.

Abstract:This paper provides a delay-dependent criterion for a class of singular stochastic hybrid systems with mode-dependent time-varying delay. In order to reduce conservatism, a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is constructed by decomposing the delay interval into multiple subintervals. Based on the new functional, a stability criterion is derived in terms of strict linear matrix inequality (LMI), which guarantees that the considered system is regular, impulse-free, and mean-square exponentially stable. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed method.
