Abstract:We demonstrate the synthesis of a sandwich-like nanocomposite by planting rutile TiO2 nanorods onto reduced graphene oxide (RGO) via a modified seed-assisted hydrothermal growth method. The synthetic process consists of functionalization of graphene oxide (GO), followed by hydrolytic deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles on GO and reduction, and finally hydrothermal growth of rutile TiO2 nanorods on RGO. The resultant nanocomposite, i.e. rutile TiO2 nanorod arrays on RGO (TONRAs–RGO), exhibits largely enhanced reversible charge–discharge capacity and rate capability compared to bare TiO2 nanorods (TONRs) due to its unique structure and superior conductivity. The rate performance of the nanocomposite is also better than that of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles. This study will inspire better design of RGO-based nanocomposites for high energy density lithium-ion battery applications.

Abstract:Through electrostatic interaction and high-temperature reduction methods, rGO was closely coated onto the surface of TiO 2 nanotubes. Even at a high temperature of 700 °C, the nanotube morphology of TiO 2 (anatase) was preserved because of the assistance of rGO, which provides a framework that prevents the tubes from breaking into particles and undergoing a phase transformation. The rGO/TiO 2 nanotubes deliver a high capacity (263 mAh g −1 at the end of 100 cycles at 0.1 A g −1 ), excellent rate performance (151 mAh g −1 at 2 A g −1 and 102 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 ), and good cycle stability (206 mAh g −1 after 500 cycles at 0.5 A g −1 ). These characteristics arise from the GO/TiO 2 nanotubes’ advanced structure. First, the closely coated rGO and Ti 3+ in the tubes give rise to a high electro-conductivity of the nanotubes. Additionally, the Li + ions can rapidly transfer into the electrode via the nanotubes’ empty inner diameter and short tube wall.

Abstract:In this study, NiO was synthesized via a facile method and coated on the surface of a TiO2 anode material doped with rGO (reduced graphene oxide). TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposite structures were synthesized by a two-step solid-state method, and their lithium storage capacity was investigated and compared with that of both as-prepared TiO2/NiO and pure TiO2. The coating over the TiO2 surface helped to attain a higher capacity and cycle stability than that without it, even at high current rates. The TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposites show excellent performance with an initial discharge capacity of up to 324 mAh/g between 0 and 3 V vs Li at 20 mA/g. Furthermore, at a high current density of 100 mA/g, the TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposite still achieved a capacity of 245 mAh/g after 200 cycles. This excellent performance could be attributed to the stable framework and high electronic conductivity within the TiO2/NiO/rGO nanocomposite. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A simple and steerable method was adopted to synthesize well-distributed rutile TiO2 nanobundles on reduced graphene oxides through two-step hydrothermal methods. The rutile TiO2-RGO composites were used as the anode materials in lithium ion batteries for investigation, which had an original morphology and a reversible capacity of 300 mA h g(-1) at 0.6 C and 200 mA h g(-1) at 1.2 C after 500 cycles.

Abstract:This work presents the self-assembly growth of metal organic frameworks (ZIF-67) dodecahedrons on graphene oxides (GO) nanosheets. Ultrafine Co3O4 nanocrystallites with size of less than 10nm are uniformly spread on graphene nanosheets through pyrolysis of GO/ZIF-67. The relative mass ratio of graphene to Co3O4 is controlled by adjusting the repeated numbers of GO in precursor solutions. For application as anode material of Li-ion batteries, graphene/Co3O4 manifests good high rate behavior (877mAhg−1 at the current density of 5000mAg−1) and long-term cycling stability (714mAhg−1 after 200 cycles).

Abstract:In this study, a SnO2 based composite composed of SnO2 nanoparticles, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and polyaniline (PANI) sheets was synthesized and evaluated as the anode material of high performance Li-ion batteries. The rGO/SnO2/PANI composite exhibited excellent electrochemical performance including high capacity (1017mAhg−1 at 200mAg−1 for the 2nd cycle), superior rate capability (397mAhg−1 at a current density of 10Ag−1) and cyclic stability (1280mAhg−1 after 200cycles). The significant enhancements in electrochemical performance are ascribed to the nanostructure of the composite in which SnO2 nanoparticles of around 3.9nm were most probably sandwiched between rGO and PANI sheets that are flexible and conductive. Extremely fine SnO2 nanoparticles, high specific surface area, mesoporous structure and good electrical conductivity of the composite resulted in the high capacity and superior rate performance. The nanostructure of rGO/SnO2/PANI can accommodate volume expansion during lithiation of SnO2 and at the same time inhibit particle aggregation during cycling, yielding excellent cyclic stability of the rGO/SnO2/PANI composite.

Abstract:Two-dimensional (2D) nanocomposites, based on graphene and transition metal oxides, hold great promise as high-performance electrode materials for next-generation lithium-ion batteries. Herein, a novel 2D CuO/RGO has been constructed by CuO ultrathin nanosheets and reduced graphene oxides (RGO) through in-situ oxidizing the Cu/RGO nanocomposite with hydrogen peroxide. CuO nanosheets with a thickness of 1.17-1.57 nm are uniformly and tightly anchored on the RGO surface without aggregation and thus the as-prepared CuO/RGO nanosheets electrode show strong interfacial coupling and fast electron transfer. Electrochemical characterizations reveal that the CuO/RGO nanocomposite electrode exhibits a remarkably enhanced cycling performance and rate performance. At the current density of 0.1C, the initial discharge capacity of 811 mAh/g has been delivered by CuO/RGO nanosheets electrode and the coulombic efficiency maintains 99.44% after 100 cycles. Moreover, the CuO/RGO nanosheets exhibit a stable specific capacity of 386 mAh/g after 200 cycles at 3C. In addition, the as-prepared CuO/RGO nanocomposite electrode exhibited excellent rate performance and lower charge transfer resistance. Abstract:Anatase TiO2 shows excellent long-term cycling stability as an anode for sodium-ion batteries. However, the low specific capacity and poor rate capability resulting from its intrinsic low electrical conductivity limit its applications. In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles were coated with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) using a combination of spray-drying and heat treatment. Electrochemical tests showed that the obtained RGO/TiO2 composites had improved electrochemical performances. The reversible capacities of the RGO/TiO2 [4.0% (w)] composites were 183.7 mAh∙g-1 (20 mA∙g-1), 153.7 mAh∙g-1 (100 mA∙g-1), and 114.4 mAh∙g-1 (600 mA∙g-1). Bare TiO2 showed low capacities of 93.6 mAh∙g-1 (20 mA∙g-1), 69.6 mAh∙g-1 (100 mA∙g-1), and 26.5 mAh∙g-1 (600 mA∙g-1). The 4.0%(w) TiO2/RGO composites exhibited good cycling stability with a charge capacity of 146.7 mAh∙g-1 at a current density of 100 mA∙g-1 after 350 cycles, compared with 68.8 mAh∙g-1 for bare TiO2. RGO modification is a promising method for improving the electrochemical performances of the sodium energystorage materials.

Abstract:As anode materials, TiO2 exhibits a suitable potential, fast kinetics and excellent cycling performance, while other transition metal oxides (such as NiO) deliver a much higher theoretical capacity with a moderate kinetics and limited cycling performance. Herein, a novel perovskite NiTiO3/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite with a particle size of 40-50 nm was first synthesized by solvothermal method and introduced as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. The structure morphology and electrochemical performance of NiTiO3/RGO nanocomposite were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), galvanostatic charge-discharge tests, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests. The NiTiO3/RGO nanocomposite delivers a higher discharge capacity (1110.7 mA h g(-1)) and better cycling stability (65.3%), as well as improved rate capability over 50 cycles, compared with those of bare NiTiO3. The improved electrochemical properties of NiTiO3/RGO can be attributed to the good conductivity and large surface of RGO and the combination nanostructure of NiTiO3 and RGO.

Abstract:Mesoporous wall-structured TiO2 on reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanosheets were successfully fabricated through a simple hydrothermal process without any surfactants and annealed at 400 degrees C for 2 h under argon. The obtained mesoporous structured TiO2-RGO composites had a high surface area (99 0307 m(2)g(-1)) and exhibited excellent electrochemical cycling (a reversible capacity of 260 mAh g(-1) at 1.2 C and 180 mAh g(-1) at 5 C after 400 cycles), demonstrating it to be a promising method for the development of high-performance Li-ion batteries.

Abstract:Here we report our findings in synthesis and characterization of porous Co3O4 nanofibers coated with a surface-modification layer, reduced graphene oxide. The unique porous Co3O4@rGO architecture enables efficient stress relaxation and fast Li+ ions and electron transport during discharge/charge cycling. When tested in a half cell, the Co3O4@rGO electrodes display high Coulombic efficiency, enhanced cyclic stability, and high rate capability (∼900mAh/g at 1A/g, and ∼600mAh/g at 5A/g). The high capacity is contributed by a stable capacity yielded from reversible conversion reactions above 0.8V vs. Li/Li+, and a increasing capacity induced by the electrolyte decomposition and interfacial storage between 0.8 0.01V during discahrge. A full cell constructed from a Co3O4@rGO anode and a LiMn2O4 cathode delivers good capacity retention with operation voltage of ∼2.0V. These performances are better than those of other full cells using alloy or metal oxide anodes. Our work is a preliminary attempt for practicality of high capacity metal oxide anodes in Li-ion batteries used for the electronic devices.

Abstract:Reduced graphene oxide wrapped hollow molybdenum trioxide nanorods (MoO3@rGO) have been fabricated by a facile process. The MoO3@rGO shows improved lithium storage performance. It could deliver a high reversible capacity (842mAh/g at 0.1A/g), excellent cycling stability (778mAh/g at 0.1A/g after 200 cycles) and excellent rate capability (455mAh/g at 2A/g). The excellent electrochemical performance could be attributed as the special core (MoO3)/sheath (rGO) structure, which could accommodate the volume change of MoO3 during lithiation/delithiation process. In addition, the rGO coating layer could improve the electronic conductivity of MoO3.

Abstract:Graphene-wrapped Fe2O3nanorings(RGO/Fe2O3)were synthesized by a facile approach,which assembled with graphene and the Fe2O3nanorings precursor through the colloidal coagulation effect at room temperature.The uniform Fe2O3nanorings prepared by hydrothermal routes were homogeneously distributed and well wrapped by graphene.When tested as anode for lithium ion batteries,RGO/Fe2O3exhibits a high capacity and good cycling stability.This could be attributed to the interaction of ring-shaped structure and graphene sheets,which inherit the good kinetic property of Fe2O3nanorings and enhance the structural integrity with graphene sheets’support.

Abstract:Li-ion and K-ion batteries present their unique advantages of high energy density and low cost, respectively. It is a challenge to explore a universal anode with efficient electrochemical performance. Herein, a two-dimensional TiO2/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite was prepared by a facile hydrothermal method. TiO2 nanoparticles are transformed from Ti2C MXene and connect the RGO nanosheets to form a sheet-like structure. Serving as the anode material, the TiO2/RGO presents high capacity, remarkable rate ability and long cycling performance for both Li- and K-ion batteries. The superior electrochemical performance is attributed to the short ion diffusion path due to the small particle size (15-25 nm) and the highway for electron transport provided by RGO. In addition, RGO motivates the capacitive contribution, resulting in enhanced capacity and better rate performance. Meanwhile, the electrochemical kinetics of Li/K-ion storage was investigated by quantitative kinetics analysis. This work demonstrates a possibility to introduce the capacitive capacity to realize rapid ion storage and improve the cycling stability, providing a new strategy to design efficient electrodes for metal-ion batteries.

Abstract:Two-dimensional (2D) metal oxides have been of great interest owning to their particular properties such as rapid electron transfer capability. Herein, we present a novel ultrathin single-crystalline bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) nanosheet wrapped by reduce graphene oxide (rGO), which exhibits rapid electron and Li ion transfer in Li-ion battery anode. The 2D profile of both Bi2O3 and rGO sheets enables them to contact steadily, forming a sandwiched structure, which is beneficial for the transport of electrons and Li ions. The Bi2O3@rGO anodes exhibit a capacity of 218 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles at a rate of 0.5 C, which exceeds the bare Bi2O3 and some reports about Bi2O3 anodes. In addition, density of states (DOSs) and band gap structures of the Bi2O3 wrapped with rGO have been investigated through density functional theory (DFT) calculations, which show that the band gap is improved and the electron transfer is significantly enhanced.
Enhanced Electrochemical Performances of Bi2O3/rGO Nanocomposite via Chemical Bonding as Anode Materials for Lithium Ion Batteries

Abstract:Bismuth oxide/reduced graphene oxide (termed Bi2O3@rGO) nanocomposite has been facilely prepared by a solvothermal method via introducing chemical bonding that has been demonstrated by Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra. Tremendous single-crystal Bi2O3 nanoparticles with an average size of ∼5 nm are anchored and uniformly dispersed on rGO sheets. Such a nanostructure results in enhanced electrochemical reversibility and cycling stability of Bi2O3@rGO composite materials as anodes for lithium ion batteries in comparison with agglomerated bare Bi2O3 nanoparticles. The Bi2O3@rGO anode material can deliver a high initial capacity of ∼900 mAh/g at 0.1C and shows excellent rate capability of ∼270 mAh/g at 10C rates (1C = 600 mA/g). After 100 electrochemical cycles at 1C, the Bi2O3@rGO anode material retains a capacity of 347.3 mAh/g with corresponding capacity retention of 79%, which is significantly better than that of bare Bi2O3 material. The lithium ion diffusion coefficient during lithiation-delithiation of Bi2O3@rGO nanocomposite has been evaluated to be around ∼10-15-10-16 cm2/S. This work demonstrates the effects of chemical bonding between Bi2O3 nanoparticles and rGO substrate on enhanced electrochemical performances of Bi2O3@rGO nanocomposite, which can be used as a promising anode alterative for superior lithium ion batteries.
