Abstract:A microwave absorption nanocomposite is prepared by polyaniline (PANI) coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles and polybenzobisoxazole (PBO), the latter being a conjugated polymer with high mechanical strength and outstanding thermal and oxidative stability. Fe3O4@PANI nanoparticles are well dispersed in the PBO matrix to form PBO/(Fe3O4@PANI) nanocomposite, which has excellent thermal stability (high char yield above 55 wt% at 800 degrees C under nitrogen). Attributed to the conductive polymer PANI as shell and the good compatibility of PANI with PBO matrix, PBO/(Fe3O4@PANI) nanocomposite with 8 wt% of Fe3O4@PANI exhibits a minimum RL value of -28.6 dB at 10.1 GHz and below -10 dB in 9.3-15.4 GHz at the film thickness of 3.5 mm. This demonstrated the potential applications of PBO/(Fe3O4@PANI) nanocompositeas a low-density microwave absorbing material in extreme environments. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A microwave absorption composite is prepared by polypyrrole (PPy) coated Fe3O4 magnetic nano-particles and pyridine-based polybenzobisoxazole (PBOPy) by the means of solution blending. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectrometer, vibrating-sample magnetometry, and thermogravimetric analysis are employed to investigate properties of the prepared composites. Composites behave good thermal stability (high char yield above 60wt%, 800°C, in nitrogen). The magnetic saturation of PPy/Fe3O4 is 17.94emu/g, and that of PBOPy/PPy/Fe3O4 composite is 0.36emu/g. Vector network analyzer is used to measure electromagnetic parameters of PBOPy/PPy/Fe3O4 composite. Reflection losses (RL (dB)) are calculated in the frequency range of 2–18GHz. PBOPy/PPy/Fe3O4 composite with 8wt% PPy/Fe3O4 behaves a minimum RL value of −23.3dB and below −10dB in 11.6–13.84GHz at the film thickness with 3.5mm.

Abstract:It is well-known that the absorbing property of materials is related to the microstructure and can be enhanced by magnetic nanoparticles coating. However, the mechanism is still unclear that the magnetic coating structure plays an important role in the microwave absorption behavior. Hence, a novel kind of absorber with efficient performance and relatively clear enhancement mechanism is very necessary. To solve these problems, polyaniline@MoS2 nanowires (PANI@MoS2 NWs) and a series of polyaniline@MoS2@Fe3O4 nanowires (PANI@MoS2@Fe3O4 NWs) with hierarchical structure were successfully prepared by in situ polymerization and versatile hydrothermal reactions and investigated in microwave absorption. The results reveal that compared with the articles related to MoS2-based composites, the as-prepared PANI@MoS2@Fe3O4 NWs (e(2)) displays the widest absorption frequency range (6.48 GHz) and strong absorption (-49.7 dB at a thickness of 1.3 mm), and the excellent MAP can be interpreted by optimizing impedance matching and simultaneously inhibiting skin effect rather than only focusing on magnetic loss.

Abstract:Different from traditional microwave absorbing nanoparticles as fillers in non-mechanical coatings, the BaTiO3/MWNT/PBO ternary composites can be potentially used as a structural microwave absorption device in broader applications, especially in the aerospace industry. BaTiO3 particles with a diameter of 5-15 nm were immobilized onto the surface of MWNTs via a solvothermal synthesis method. BaTiO3/MWNT/PBO ternary composites with varied compositions were then prepared via the in situ polymerization of p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole (PBO) with a uniform dispersion of BaTiO3/MWNT nanocomposites in the polymer-poly p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole (PBO)-matrix (a conjugated polymer with splendid mechanical properties and thermal stability). The BaTiO3/MWNT/PBO composites possessed outstanding microwave absorbing performances in addition to desirable mechanical properties and thermal stability.
1D Magnetic Materials of Fe 3 O 4 and Fe with High Performance of Microwave Absorption Fabricated by Electrospinning Method

Abstract:Fe 3 O 4 and Fe nanowires are successfully fabricated by electrospinning method and reduction process. Wiry microstructures were achieved with the phase transformation from α-Fe 2 O 3 to Fe 3 O 4 and Fe by partial and full reduction, while still preserving the wire morphology. The diameters of the Fe 3 O 4 and Fe nanowires are approximately 50–60 nm and 30–40 nm, respectively. The investigation of microwave absorption reveals that the Fe 3 O 4 nanowires exhibit excellent microwave absorbing properties. For paraffin-based composite containing 50% weight concentration of Fe 3 O 4 nanowires, the minimum reflection loss reaches −17.2 dB at 6.2 GHz with the matching thickness of 5.5 mm. Furthermore, the calculation shows that the modulus of the ratio between the complex permittivity and permeability |ε/μ| is far away from unity at the minimum reflection loss point, which is quite different from the traditional opinions.

Abstract:The excellent properties including high porosity, large specific surface area, low density, and strong controllability of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) make them one of the preferred materials for a plethora of applications. One particular intriguing application, among others, is microwave absorption, to which majority of research has been devoted by using MOF as templates to prepare porous carbon via carbonization. Contrary to such approach, in this study we propose a novel strategy based on leveraging the intrinsic attributes of MOF. Through a simple and rapid microwave solvothermal method, lamellar redox-active iron-quinoid MOFs were synthesized and their morphology and crystallinity are modulated as a function of reaction temperature. The conductivity of the prepared MOF reached up to 2 x 10(-3) S/m, which is comparable to that of semiconductors. In addition, magnetic hysteresis was observed at 300 K. The reaction temperature proved pivotal to attain maximum microwave absorption of -73.5 dB at 13.8 GHz with a matching thickness of 3.3 mm. Effective absorbing bandwidth with a reflection loss below -10 dB can be also gained in a wide frequency range of 9.8-15.9 GHz. The optimal microwave absorbing performance was mainly attributed to the simultaneous implementation of magnetic and electrical loss in a single iron-quinoid MOF resulting in adequate impedance matching through modulable magnetic and electric properties. The developed iron-quinoid MOF material opens up new opportunities to achieve high-efficiency, lightweight and tunable microwave absorbers. The material-structure coupling strategy here is instrumental to developing next-generation high-performance microwave absorbing materials.
Graphene/Mwnt/Poly(P-Phenylenebenzobisoxazole) Multiphase Nanocomposite Via Solution Prepolymerization with Superior Microwave Absorption Properties and Thermal Stability

Abstract:This paper demonstrates both the high-performance microwave absorption properties and the superior thermal stability of graphene/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)/poly(p-phenylenebenzobisoxazole) (PBO) composites synthesized via in situ polymerization of functionalized PBO precursor with graphene oxide/MWNTs nanocomposites, followed by high-temperature calcination. The incorporation of three-dimensional graphene/MWNTs network significantly improved the reflection loss of PBO composites (-50.17 dB at 12.58 GHz) by over 20 times than that of pure PBO (-2.33 dB at 12.58 GHz) with a sample thickness of only 2.6 mm. The effect of graphene/MWNTs content on the microwave absorption performance was also investigated. The graphene/MWNTs/PBO composite shows great promise as a microwave absorber in high-temperature environments.

Abstract:A novel type of composite absorber, i.e. Fe2O3/Fe3O4/MWCNTs composites (0%, 1.7% and 5% MWCNTs), with microwave absorption properties was successfully fabricated by a facile hydrothermal method. The prepared alpha Fe2O3/Fe3O4 nanoparticles displayed rod-shaped morphology. The complex permittivity and permeability of the Fe2O3/Fe3O4/MWCNTs composites distinctly increased, furthermore, with the introduction of MWCNTs, the Fe2O3/Fe3O4/MWCNTs composites exhibited fine microwave absorption performance with strong absorption and wide absorption band. In particular, for Fe2O3/Fe3O4/1.7% MWCNTs composite with an absorber thickness of 2.5 mm, the reflection loss (RL) reached a minimum of -44.1 dB at 10.4 GHz and the effective absorption bandwidth (RL < -10 dB) covered 3.3 GHz. The enhanced microwave absorption performance of the Fe2O3/Fe3O4/MWCNTs composites was attributed to the high dielectric loss and improved impedance matching which was closely related to the rod-shaped morphology of Fe2O3, Fe3O4 and the introduction of MWCNTs.

Abstract:Fe3O4-reduced graphene oxide (FRGO)/waterborne polyurethane (WPU) composites with controllable structure and high microwave absorption capacity were developed. The aligned structure of FRGO in the FRGO/WPU composites was realized by a magnetic-field-induced method. WPU dispersion with nano-scaled particles could suppress the aggregation of FRGO during the drying process. The FRGO/WPU composites have much high complex permittivity, dielectric loss tangent, and microwave absorption capacity owing to the magnetic alignment. WPU with 2% FRGO achieved the minimum reflection loss value of -67.8 dB, which can be attributed to the orientation and three-dimensional structure of FRGO. The effective bandwidth wider than 14 GHz can be reached by a combination of two layers of composites with different permittivity through theoretical calculation. Controllable synthesis of porous carbon@Fe20Ni80 composites with improved microwave absorption performance

Abstract:The two-component composites with porous carbon and magnetic metals exhibit a promising application prospect in microwave absorption due to their superior impedance matching and excellent loss ability. Herein, a novel process combined sol-gel and in-situ pyrolysis methods was proposed to prepare a series of porous carbon@Fe20Ni80 composites. The structure and composition of composites were controlled by adjusting pyrolysis temperature and doping amount of Fe20Ni80 for achieving an improvement on microwave absorption performance. Under the optimal Fe20Ni80 doping amount of 2 mmol, the composite pyrolyzed at 800 °C shows the highest performance. With 15 wt% filler loading, the composite achieves the minimum reflection loss value (RLmin) of −39.5 dB at 6.7 GHz with a thickness of 3 mm. Moreover, under the optimal matching thickness of 2.2 mm, the maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EABmax) reaches 5.4 GHz (8.0–13.4 GHz), covering the whole X-band. The porous structure is maintained at appropriate pyrolysis temperature, which optimizes the impedance matching of materials. The porous carbon matrix with partial graphitization exhibits the dielectric loss ability to electromagnetic waves. In addition, the introduction of Fe20Ni80 endows the composite with magnetic loss ability. This study develops an avenue for the preparation of two-component composites with porous carbon and magnetic metals and has potential application in microwave absorption.

Abstract:MWCNT/Fe 3 O 4 /Si 3 N 4 composite was synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis. The morphology and structure of MWCNT/Fe 3 O 4 /Si 3 N 4 were investigated by means of SEM, XPS, XRD, and FT-IR. Their electromagnetic parameters were measured by a vector network analyzer. The microwave attenuation properties of as-synthesized composite could be modulated by regulating the feed ratio of MWCNT, Fe 3 O 4 , and Si 3 N 4 . According to the different amounts of modified nano Fe 3 O 4 added, they are labelled as S1-S3. When the feed ratio is 3:15:20, the maximum reflection loss value of the sample is −23.3 dB at 14.4 GHz, the corresponding thickness is 2.5 mm, and the corresponding effective absorption bandwidth is 5.36 GHz. Moreover, the test results of the thermogravimetric analyzer show that the composite material has excellent heat resistance. Our research results provide a reference value for the development of excellent heat resistance and high-performance MWCNT-based microwave absorption composite materials.

Abstract:At present, the magnetic metal/carbon composites have been widely explored for microwave absorption (MA), which effectively integrate the characteristics of magnetic and dielectric materials. As a typical material, metal–organic framework (MOF) shows tremendous potential as a precursor or template. However, its development is limited by the inferior impedance matching. Herein, a novel rod-like Fe/Fe3O4/FeN/N-doped carbon (FON/NC) composite was synthesized via dual-ligand strategy and following calcination. The outer polypyrrole (PPy) shell, obtained by a facile polymerization method, effectively optimized the impedance matching and observably enhanced the MA capacity. Both the multi-component loss mechanism and unique porous core–shell structures of MOF-derived composites were beneficial for microwave attenuation. The effects of filler loadings (20 wt%, 25 wt%, 30 wt% and 35 wt%) on electromagnetic (EM) properties of FON/ composites were discussed. Remarkably, as-obtained composites exhibited a minimum reflection loss (RL) value of −60.08 dB at the layer thickness of merely 1.44 mm and the widest effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL ≤ −10 dB) of 5.06 GHz at 1.64 mm with 30 wt% filler loading. This work provides a great reference for designing MOF-derived absorbers with high MA performance.

Excellent Microwave Absorption Performances Achieved by Optimizing Core@shell Structures of Fe3O4@1T/2H-MoS2 Composites

Abstract:The core@shell structures and compositions hold greatly potential for microwave absorption. Herein, the Fe3O4@1T/2H-MoS2 nanocomposites with core@shell structures were successfully fabricated through a simple hydrothermal process. The impedance matching was significantly promoted by introducing mag-netic Fe3O4 nanoparticles and designing the flower-like 1 T/2 H-MoS2 with core@shell structures. It can be seen that the regulation of Fe3O4 contents play an important role in electromagnetic parameters and mi-crowave absorption performances of the Fe3O4@1T/2H-MoS2 nanocomposites with core@shell structures. The Fe3O4@1T/2H-MoS2 nanocomposites with core@shell structures with corresponding thickness of 2.67 mm display the minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value of - 56.22 dB at 10.36 GHz (in X band), and the maximum absorption bandwidth (AB(max)) extend up to 4.76 GHz with thickness of only 1.89 mm. This result is of great significance for improving microwave absorbing performance, and the nanocomposites can be regarded as candidates for high-quality absorbing materials. (c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. Significant Promotion of Porous Architecture and Magnetic Fe3O4 NPs Inside Honeycomb-Like Carbonaceous Composites for Enhanced Microwave Absorption

Abstract:Carbonaceous composites with tailored porous architectures and magnetic Fe3O4 components derived from walnut shells were fabricated by a solvothermal method and used as effective microwave absorbers. The porous composites were obtained by two carbonization processes at different temperatures and an etching process using potassium hydroxide. The introduction of a developed porous architecture inside the resulting materials distinctly improved the microwave absorption performance. Moreover, investigations revealed that the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were chemically bonded and uniformly decorated on the porous framework without aggregation. Owing to the combined advantages of the lightweight conductive biochar-like porous framework with a favorable dielectric loss and Fe3O4 nanoparticles with magnetic loss features, these newly fabricated porous carbonaceous composites exhibited excellent microwave absorption performance. A reflection loss (RL) of -51.6 dB was achieved at a frequency of 13.6 GHz. Besides, the effective absorption (below -10 dB) bandwidth reached 5.8 GHz (from 11.9 to 17.7 GHz) at an absorber thickness of only 2 mm. These results indicated that this type of porous Fe3O4-biochar composite derived from biomass substances and prepared via an easy-to-handle process can be considered as attractive candidates for the design and manufacture of high-efficiency microwave-absorbing materials.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Design and fabrication of structurally optimized microwave absorbing materials are important for eliminating electromagnetic (EM) pollution. Herein, we reported the novel highly regulated core/shell bamboo-like polypyrrole (PPy) nanofibers/Fe3O4 hybrids as the efficient microwave absorbing materials. Typically, the target hybrid materials were prepared by a two-step method, including synthesis of bamboo-like PPy nanofibers using vapor polymerization of PPy on tubular vanadium pentoxide templates and coprecipitation of Fe3O4 nanoparticles on the surface of bamboo-like PPy nanofibers. Owing to good impedance matching and hierarchical structure, as-prepared core/shell bamboo-like PPy nanofibers/Fe3O4 hybrids exhibit superior microwave absorption and broad absorption bandwidths compared with conventional PPy/Fe3O4 composites. The lowest reflection loss of core/shell bamboo-like PPy nanofibers/Fe3O4 hybrid is calculated to be −41.6 dB at 10.0 GHz with the thickness of 2.5 mm. Furthermore, the absorption bandwidths exceeding −10 dB are more than 8.0 GHz with thickness of 2.0–3.5 mm. Therefore, this work provides an efficient way to obtain high-performance microwave absorber with lightweight, strong absorption and wide absorption bandwidths. Graphical Abstract

Abstract:γ-Fe2O3 nanotube/porous reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composites were prepared using a controllable method. Uniform γ-Fe2O3 nanotubes with a diameter of about 85 nm and a length of about 230 nm are well distributed between porous rGO sheets. Compared with the γ-Fe2O3 nanorod/porous rGO and γ-Fe2O3 nanotube/nonporous rGO, the γ-Fe2O3 nanotube/porous rGO composites with both unique hollow and porous structure show an advantage for the attenuation of microwaves. The appropriate dielectric loss and magnetic loss result in a good impedance matching. The minimum reflection loss of γ-Fe2O3 nanotube/porous rGO composite reaches −34.20 dB with a thickness of 2.0 mm, and the absorption bandwidth is 4.59 GHz. These results reveal that the synthesis of hollow and porous composites is a promising way for getting lightweight microwave materials with high performance.

Abstract:A series of magnetic fluorinated polybenzobisoxazole (6FPBO)/silica-coated Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles composites were synthesized through in-situ polymerization. The structure and morphology of the obtained nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electronic microscope (SEM). The SEM images indicated that the crosslinking structure is formed in magnetic 6FPBO nanocomposites. The magnetic and electromagnetic properties of magnetic 6FPBO nanocomposites in the 2-18 GHz frequency range were characterized by vibration sample magnetometer and vector network analyzer, respectively. The calculated reflection loss of the as-prepared magnetic 6FPBO nanocomposites showed that the best microwave absorption reached to -20 dB at 17 GHz with a matching thickness of 3.00 mm. POLYM. Abstract:In this study, a 3D flower-like ferroferric oxide @ polypyrrole (Fe3O4@PPy) composite with core-shell heterostructure was successfully fabricated via solvothermal treatment and polymerization. The optimized Fe3O4@PPy composites exhibited superior microwave absorbing properties via reasonable structural design and conductive loss regulation by varying PPy proportion. With a thickness of 2.08 mm, the fabricated Fe3O4@PPy composite material exhibited a maximum absorption frequency bandwidth of 6.00 GHz (12.00-18.0 0 GHz). The good absorption performance of the 3D flower-like core-shell Fe3O4@PPy was at-tributed to the heterostructures and impedance matching between Fe3O4 and PPy, which introduced more magnetic-dielectric cooperative effects, the interface polarization, tailored conduction, and the extension of electromagnetic (EM) wave transmission path. Therefore, constructing a 3D core-shell flower-like hetero-structure is a promising strategy for improving electromagnetic wave absorption (EMWA) performance. (c) 2022 Elsevier B.V.
