Abstract:A highly efficient and reusable catalyst, palladium (II) complex supported on functionalized silica, was prepared by anchoring palladium (II) onto 2,6-bis(5,6-dimethyl-1,2,4-triazine-3-yl)pyridine [BTP]-modified mesoporous silica (labeled as Pd-BTP/SiO2). The catalyst was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) analysis. Its catalytic performance was tested for the Heck coupling reactions between aryl halides with acrylic acid or styrene, and good to excellent results (higher conversions 87–96% and yields 66–78%) were obtained. The catalyst system was stable under the reaction conditions and could be successfully reused more than five times without the loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:Heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis is an important strategy for the industrial production of chiral compounds. Herein, we reported a polymer-bound Xu-Phos-derived palladium catalyst that shows good performance in heterogeneous asymmetric reductive Heck reaction of allyl aryl ethers. This heterogeneous catalyst was easily prepared by efficient immobilization of the sulfonamide phosphine ligand (Xu-Phos) in the cross-linked polystyrene via copolymerization, and exhibits similar catalytic activity and enantioselectivity to that of the homogeneous catalyst. Moreover, the heterogeneous catalyst system is proved to be easily recovered and reused several times without losing catalytic activity obviously.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), recognized as advanced catalyst carriers due to their adjustable porous, diverse structure and highly exposed active sites, have earned increasing attention for their potential to address the longevity of catalytic centers. In this manuscript, we have devised and synthesized a multifunctional amino-pyridine benzoic acid (APBA) ligand to replace the modulator ligand of the MOF-808 and disperse the palladium catalytic centers atomically on the MOF-APBA. The resulting single-site catalytic system, Pd@MOF-APBA, demonstrates preeminent efficiency and stability, as evidenced by a high average turnover number (95000) and a low metal residue (4.8 ppm) in the Heck reaction. This catalyst has exhibited recyclability for multiple runs without significant loss of reactivity for gram-scale reactions. The catalyst's high activity and efficiency can be attributed to the suitable electrical properties and structures of the N, N'-bidentate ligand for the catalytic palladium ions, postponing their deactivations, including leaching and agglomeration.

Abstract:Three amino-functionalized silica-supported palladium catalysts have been synthesized. These catalysts displayed high activity for the Heck reaction of iodobenzene with olefins. By using XXX—aminopyridine-palladium, a turnover number exceeding 16700 was observed for the reaction of iodobenzene with styrene or acrylamide. This catalyst can be recovered and reused by using tributylamine as base. It can also tolerate the presence of a variety of functional groups.

Abstract:Abstract Heck-type C-H bond activation of unactivated alkenes has emerged as a powerful strategy for the construction of synthetically valuable spirocycles over past 30 years, however, the development of asymmetric version has lagged largely behind. Herein we demonstrate a robust Heck-type reaction of a broad range of unactivated alkenes enabled by the first palladium/Xu-Phos-catalyzed tandem Heck/remote C−H bond alkylation. Moreover, the synthesis of both enantiomers of the product using the same enantiomer of a chiral ligand via a position of the phenyl ring-dependent enantiodivergent synthesis. The salient features of this methodology include operational simplicity, high chemo- and enantioselectivity, broad substrate scope. In addition, we first revealed that the C(sp2)-H activation, alkene insertion and C−I reductive elimination steps are reversible by experiments.

Abstract:A series of structurally novel, operationally convenient, and efficient chiral 2-phosphino-2,3-dihydrobenzo[d][1,3]oxaphosphole ligands was developed. Applications of ligands 3a and 3b in rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of alpha-(acylamino)acrylates and beta-(acylamino)acrylates provided excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee) and reactivities (up to 10 000 TON).

Abstract:The air-, and thermo-stable palladium(II) complexes C1-C10 are prepared by the reaction of PdCl2(CH3CN)2 with pyridylbenzoimidazole. With various substituents on the pyridine ring, palladium atom was coordinated by two pyridylbenzoimidazole molecules via nitrogen atoms of benzoimidazole. The structure of complexes C3, C4, C6, and C7 has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Without substituents on the pyridine ring, palladium atom was directly coordinated with two nitrogen atoms of pyridine and benzoimidazole nitrogen via intramolecular chelation (C10). Abstract:Over the past few decades, Narasaka-Heck-type difunctionalization of tethered alkenes has emerged as a powerful strategy to produce heterocyclic scaffolds. However, asymmetric synthesis has rarely been explored. Herein, we report a robust palladium-catalyzed enantioselective Narasaka-Heck cyclization-Sonogashira reaction of alkene-tethered oxime esters and terminal alkynes. By employing the new Ming-Phos ligand, we obtain high yields of pyrrolines with a quaternary stereocenter and high enantioselectivities under mild reaction conditions. Density functional theory (DFT) study reveals the weak interaction between the aromatic ring of the substrate fragment and the naphthyl group in the ligand, which probably accounts for the high stereoselectivity.
