Abstract:Two series of amine-functionalized Zr-based mixed-linker metal-organic frameworks (MOFs; UiO-66-Mix and UiO-67-Mix) have been synthesized with different ratios of 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate/2-amino-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate and 4,4-biphenyldicarboxylic acid/2-amino-biphenyl-4,4-dicarboxylic acid incorporated into their structures. The pendant amino groups were postmodified by the condensation reaction with pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde, and Pd metal centers were anchored onto the MOFs by coordination to the pyridylimine moieties. The two series of heterogeneous Pd catalysts (UiO-66-Mix-PI-Pd and UiO-67-Mix-PI-Pd) were utilized for the Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions in ethanol/water under mild reaction conditions and they showed a remarkably high catalytic activity. The porosity of the MOFs and the density of the metal binding sites of the Pd catalysts had great influence on the Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions. The best results were achieved with a very low Pd loading (0.054mol%), and the use of UiO-67-3-PI-Pd catalyst led to the complete conversion of reaction substrates. Moreover, the catalysts were readily recovered and recycled in at least 10cycles without significant leaching or loss of catalytic activity. The catalysts were generally applicable for different reaction substrates with various substituents in both Suzuki and Heck reactions.

Abstract:We demonstrate in this paper a unique self-supporting strategy for the synthesis of hyperbranched polyethylenes (HBPEs) encapsulating Pd(II) species as efficient and recyclable catalysts for Heck reaction. This strategy combines remarkably the synthesis of HBPE polymer support and the immobilization of Pd(II) species in situ in one pot. It is achieved by chain walking copolymerization of ethylene with an acrylate comonomer (2) containing a disulfide functionality with a cationic Pd(II)-diimine catalyst (1). The copolymerization renders successfully HBPEs containing pendant disulfide groups at a controllable content, while with no poisoning effect from the disulfide functionality. Meanwhile, the Pd(II) catalyst in situ immobilizes itself onto the polymers by coordinative binding with the pendant disulfide groups, giving rise to the homogeneous self-supported Pd(II) catalysts. The resulting Pd-containing HBPEs having a low content of 2 (ca. < 1 mol %) have been found to be efficient and recyclable catalysts for the Heck reaction of iodobenzene and n-butyl acrylate while with a low/minimum Pd leaching (to form catalytically active species) during the reaction/recycling. In particular, the convenient recovery and reuse of the catalysts while at maintained high catalytic performance has been demonstrated with the use of a biphasic solvent system comprised of N,N-dimethylformamide and n-heptane in the Heck reaction.

Abstract:The synthesis of a polyethylene (PE) gel containing self-incarcerated palladium(0) nanoparticles is described. The PE gel matrix without any special functionality was synthesized by one-pot chain walking copolymerization of ethylene and 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate facilitated by a Pd-diimine complex (1). The Pd(II) species from 1 were immobilized in situ onto the gel matrix and further reduced to Pd(0) nanoparticles as a result of catalyst 1 deactivation during polymerization and methanol (a reducer) washing in the polymer purification process. The resulting Pd-containing PE gel (2) is shown to be a high-performance and facilely reusable heterogeneous catalyst for the Heck and Suzuki coupling reactions of iodobenzene or aryl bromides. An average TOF of 460 h(-1) was achieved with an average 0.57 ppm Pd leaching in each cycle of the Heck reaction of iodobenzene when the PE gel 2 was recycled 10 times. A maximum TOF of 3.33 x 104 h-(1) was reached and less than 0.64 ppm of Pd was leached in the Suzuki reactions of aryl bromides with water as solvent.

Abstract:A highly efficient and reusable catalyst, palladium (II) complex supported on functionalized silica, was prepared by anchoring palladium (II) onto 2,6-bis(5,6-dimethyl-1,2,4-triazine-3-yl)pyridine [BTP]-modified mesoporous silica (labeled as Pd-BTP/SiO2). The catalyst was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) analysis. Its catalytic performance was tested for the Heck coupling reactions between aryl halides with acrylic acid or styrene, and good to excellent results (higher conversions 87–96% and yields 66–78%) were obtained. The catalyst system was stable under the reaction conditions and could be successfully reused more than five times without the loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:Silica-supported palladium (0) complexes have been prepared from γ-chloropropyl triethoxysilica and γ-aminopropyl triethoxysilica via immobilization on fumed silica, followed by reacting with ethylenediamine and salicylaldehyde, and then the reaction with palladium chloride in ethanol and reduction with KBH 4 in ethanol. They are efficient catalysts for Heck reaction of aryl iodides with alkene at 90 o C. These polymeric palladium (0) catalysts can be recovered and reused without loss in activity.

Abstract:Three amino-functionalized silica-supported palladium catalysts have been synthesized. These catalysts displayed high activity for the Heck reaction of iodobenzene with olefins. By using XXX—aminopyridine-palladium, a turnover number exceeding 16700 was observed for the reaction of iodobenzene with styrene or acrylamide. This catalyst can be recovered and reused by using tributylamine as base. It can also tolerate the presence of a variety of functional groups.

Abstract:A new silica-supported poly-gamma-aminopropysiloxane transition metal (Cu2+) and palladium (Pd2+) catalyst has been prepared from organic silica via immobilization on fumed silica, followed by treatment with Cu(OAc)2 and PdCl2 in ethanol. The catalyst is efficient for Heck arylation of aryl iodides with alkene. The effects of reaction temperature and Pd2+ content on catalytic properties have also been studied. Pd2+ has been found to improve the catalytic performance, reducing the reaction temperature (70 degrees C) and the induction period. It provides an economic way to synthesize unsymmetrical trans-stilbenes.

Abstract:Heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis is an important strategy for the industrial production of chiral compounds. Herein, we reported a polymer-bound Xu-Phos-derived palladium catalyst that shows good performance in heterogeneous asymmetric reductive Heck reaction of allyl aryl ethers. This heterogeneous catalyst was easily prepared by efficient immobilization of the sulfonamide phosphine ligand (Xu-Phos) in the cross-linked polystyrene via copolymerization, and exhibits similar catalytic activity and enantioselectivity to that of the homogeneous catalyst. Moreover, the heterogeneous catalyst system is proved to be easily recovered and reused several times without losing catalytic activity obviously.

Abstract:The synthesis and characterization of palladium colloid layer grafted mesoporous SBA-15 material, designated as Pd-SBA, are described. In the preparation of this new catalyst, the SiH functional groups were introduced into the channel of SBA-15 mesoporous materials resulting in highly dispersed metal colloid layer on the pore walls of the supporting material. The material is investigated for Heck coupling reactions with activated and non-activated aryl substrates. The ultrahigh specific area, large pore opening, and highly dispersed catalyst species in Pd-SBA material create one of the most active heterogeneous catalysts for Heck coupling reactions.

Abstract:Palladium immobilized on an amide and ether functionalized porous organic polymer (Pd@AEPOP) is reported to be an effective heterogeneous catalyst for the Heck cross-coupling reaction of aryl iodides with styrene for the synthesis of diphenylethene derivatives. Excellent yields can be obtained using a 0.8 mol% Pd catalyst loading under the optimized reaction condition. The heterogeneous Pd@AEPOP catalyst can also be applied on the Suzuki reaction and the reduction of nitroarene.

Abstract:[Ag-4(L)(4)](PF6)(4) and [Pd(L)(2)](PF6)(2) (L = 3-(2,4-dimethyl-1,8-naphthyrid-7-yl)-l-picolylimidazolylidene) have been prepared and fully characterized. The silver compound consists of a Ag-4 ring with short Ag-Ag contacts displaying a butterfly conformation. The palladium complex exhibits a helical structure with palladium located in a square-planar environment with two carbene ligands and two pyridines in a cis arrangement. The palladium complex has proven to be a highly efficient catalyst for Heck coupling reactions of aryl bromides with n-butyl acrylate. TON values up to 10(6) and TOF values up to 5 x 10(5) h(-1) can be achieved.

Abstract:Using fumed silica as supporter,chain amino and cyclic amino as functional reagents,a series of fumed silica supported amino-palladium(Ⅱ) complexes were prepared by coordination reaction followed by reduction.The catalysts were characterized by IR,XRD,XPS,ICP.The effect of the preparation condition and difference of ligand on the catalytic performance was studied.Its catalytic performance for Heck reaction of iodobenzene with acrylic acid showed that the catalyst has high activity at 70～90 ℃.The product takes E form.The catalyst after reduction had high catalytic activity and good recycling performance.With the increase of number of N atoms,there was a rising trend of catalytic activity for those catalysts which contain chain amino ligand.And the catalytic activity was much lower for those catalysts which contain cyclic amino ligand.

Abstract:The air-, and thermo-stable palladium(II) complexes C1-C10 are prepared by the reaction of PdCl2(CH3CN)2 with pyridylbenzoimidazole. With various substituents on the pyridine ring, palladium atom was coordinated by two pyridylbenzoimidazole molecules via nitrogen atoms of benzoimidazole. The structure of complexes C3, C4, C6, and C7 has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Without substituents on the pyridine ring, palladium atom was directly coordinated with two nitrogen atoms of pyridine and benzoimidazole nitrogen via intramolecular chelation (C10). These complexes performed the Heck olefination of aryl bromides in a good to high yield under phosphine-free conditions. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A novel N-heterocyclic carbene-acetylamide ligand derived from binaphthyl-2,2'-diamine (BINAM) and its dinuclear NHC-Pd(II) complex as well as its corresponding complex bearing weakly coordinating acetate counterions, have been successfully synthesized in good yields. The dinuclear NHC-Pd(II) complex has been characterized by X-ray diffraction. Moreover, we found that these complexes are quite effective in Heck-Mizoroki reactions and give the corresponding products in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:The fabrication of hollow polysiloxane capsule-supported palladium complexes has been investigated. Capsule-supported cyano-palladium( 0) complexes were firstly prepared and their catalytic performance in the Heck arylation of alkenes was studied. Generally the method involves the consecutive cocondensation of 4-(triethoxysilyl) butyronitrile and dimethyldimethoxysilane monomers onto a microemulsion of preformed polydimethylsiloxane and the subsequent removal of the templated polydimethylsiloxane by exposure to solvents, and then the above product is reacted with palladium acetate in anhydrous toluene and reduced with KBH4 in ethanol to produce the hollow polysiloxane capsule-supported palladium complex. UV-VIS spectra and FT-IR spectra indicated that the capsules chelated with the palladium and the results of TEM and AFM measurements show that a hollow polysiloxane capsule-supported palladium complex has been prepared. These complex are highly active and stereoselective for the Heck reaction and can be easily separated from the reaction mixture. Moreover, these polysiloxane capsule-supported palladium( 0) catalysts can be retrieved and reused with high catalytic stability.

Abstract:N -(2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)phenyl)-picolinamide ligands 3a–c and 5a–f have been easily prepared from commercially available 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid. Reaction of 3a–c and 5a–f with PdCl 2 in toluene in the presence of triethylamine gave the nine NNN pincer Pd(II) complexes 6a–i in 15–91% yields. All the new compounds were characterized by 1 H, 13 C NMR spectra and HRMS. In addition, the molecular structures of complexes 6a and 6i have also been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The obtained palladium(II) catalysts showed efficient catalytic activity toward the Heck coupling of aryl bromides with styrenes. Under the condition of 5% catalyst loading, the expected various styrenes were obtained in moderate to high yields (up to 99% yield).
