Abstract:Chiral 9-amino epi-cinchonine was anchored on external surface passivated SBA-15 as well as calcined SBA-15. The two resulting materials were used as catalysts for the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones after complexing with [Ir(COD)Cl](2). Higher enantioselectivities were obtained over the passivated SBA-15 supported catalyst compared with the catalyst based on calcined SBA-15 as well as the homogeneous counterpart. Especially for the substrate of acetophenone, an obviously high enantiomeric excess (ee) of 74% (homogeneous ee: 60%) was achieved with comparable conversion to the homogeneous catalyst (97% vs. 98%). Furthermore, the passivated SBA-15 supported catalyst demonstrated higher stability during the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reaction as compared with the catalyst based on calcined SBA-15. Abstract:A series of chiral spiroketal bisphosphine ligands containing 1,1'-spirobi(3 H,3' H)isobenzofuran backbones was accessed through asymmetric synthesis and subsequently tested in enantioselective Rh-catalyzed hydrogenation of α-dehydroamino acid esters. The ligand providing the highest enantioselectivity (up to 99.5%) was obtained in seven steps in an overall 38% yield. The synthesis could be performed on a gram scale, and no kinetic resolution of enantiomers is required. Overall, the developed ligand provides an easily accessible alternative to SDP ligands as well as other chiral bisphosphine ligands.

Abstract:A homochiral porous noninterpenetrating metal-organic framework (MOF), 1, was constructed by linking infinite 1D [Cd(mu-Cl)2]n zigzag chains with axially chiral bipyridine bridging ligands containing orthogonal secondary functional groups. The secondary chiral dihydroxy groups accessible via the large open channels in 1 were utilized to generate a heterogeneous asymmetric catalyst for the addition of diethyzinc to aromatic aldehydes to afford chiral secondary alcohols at up to 93% enantiomeric excess (ee). Control experiments with dendritic aromatic aldehydes of different sizes indicate that the heterogeneous asymmetric catalyst derived from 1 is both highly active and enantioselective as a result of the creation of readily accessible, uniform active catalyst sites inside the porous MOF.

Abstract:A series of novel, efficient, air-stable, and tunable chiral bisdihydrobenzooxaphosphole ligands (BIBOPs) were developed for rhodium-catalyzed hydrogenations of various functionalized olefins such as alpha-arylenamides, alpha-(acylamino)acrylic acid derivatives, beta-(acylamino)acrylates, and dimethyl itaconate with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) and reactivities (up to 2000 TON).

Abstract:Chiral iridium complexes ligated by anionic oxazoline-bearing NCP-type pincer ligands were developed and applied to the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of diarylethenes using environmentally benign ethanol as the hydrogen donor. High enantioselectivities could be achieved for substrates bearing ortho-Me, ortho-Cl, or ortho-Br substituents on one of the aryl groups. The ATH of ortho-Br-substituted diarylethenes is particularly attractive due to the propensity of the C(aryl)-Br bond to undergo various new bond-forming events.

Abstract:AbstractInspired by the unique character of enzymes, we developed novel chiral SPO (secondary‐phosphine‐oxide) ligand (SPO‐Wudaphos) which can enter into both ion pair and H‐bond noncovalent interactions. The novel chiral SPO‐Wudaphos exhibited excellent results in the asymmetric hydrogenation of α‐methylene‐γ‐keto carboxylic acids, affording the chiral γ‐keto acids with up to over 99 % ee. A series of control experiments and DFT calculations were conducted to illustrate the critical roles of both the ion pair and H‐bond noncovalent interactions.
