Abstract:The Biaryl-bridged Salen Ti complexes are a high active catalyst at substrate-to-catalyst ratios as high as 1 000:1 in the reaction of asymmetric addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to aldehydes,and the optimal catalyst 4 derived from(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde produces trimethylsilyl ethers of cyanohydrins with up to 87% enantiomeric excess at ambient temperature.

Abstract:A complete study of the asymmetric addition of phenylacetylene to ketones catalyzed by Schiff-base amino alcohol-Zn complex is reported in this article. The Schiff-base amino alcohols were easily prepared from amino acids in three steps. When the amount of ligand was 1%(molar fraction), an e.e. value up to 94% was obtained. A series of practical chiral ligands were applied in the enantioselective addition of phenylacetylene to ketones without adding another stronger Lewis acid except zinc.

Abstract:Development of new or improved methods for the asymmetric preparation of chiral propargylic alcohols has gained considerable significance during the past years because they are useful building blocks for the synthesis of many biologically active compounds and natural products.[1] A series of chiral tridentate ligands were conveniently synthesized from amino acids with good yields (Scheme 1).[2] A preliminary study of the enantioselective alkynylation of benzaldehyde catalyzed by this chiral tridentate ligand was carried out and up to 83% ee of chiral propargyl alcohols was obtained (Table 1 ). A further investigation of the tridentate ligand is currently underway.……

Abstract:A series of chiral 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-disulfonic acids was designed, synthesized, and applied in a highly enantioselective Ti-catalyzed intramolecular hydroalkoxylation of nonactivated alkenes. The catalyst is probably a complex between two chiral binaphthyldisulfonate ligands and a bis(mu-oxo)-dititanium(IV) core structure. The sulfonamide groups of the ligands and water are necessary for the catalysis, as they may stabilize the catalytically active complex through hydrogen bonding. Various 2-methylcoumarans were obtained in up to greater than 99% yields and up to 97% enantiomeric excess under mild conditions.

Abstract:A catalytic enantioselective conjugate addition with commercially available allenylboronic acid pinacol ester as nucleophile promoted by a chiral copper complex of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) is disclosed. This process constitutes an unprecedented instance of the conjugate addition that introduces an allenyl group into α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, affording products that are otherwise difficult to access in up to 92% yield, >98% allenyl addition selectivity and 96:4 enantiomeric ratio. DFT calculations were performed to elucidate the origins of enantioselectivity.

Abstract:Novel C-2-symmetrical bissulfonamide ligands were easily prepared in three simple steps and applied in the enantioselective addition of alkynylzinc reagents to aldehydes. Compound 7a was found to be an outstanding ligand for this reaction. When the catalyst loading, 4 mol % of 7a, was used, high enantioselectivity with an ee value up to 97% was achieved under very mild conditions. When the amount of ligand 7a was lowered to 2 mol %, excellent levels of enantiocontrol up to 95% ee were still achieved. So far the most economic catalyst system was developed for the addition of terminal alkynes to aromatic aldehydes in terms of ligand loading and enantioselectivity. Moreover, ligand 7a in combination with Ti(O-i-Pr)(4) was found to be effective in promoting the addition reaction of an alkynylzinc reagent to unactivated simple ketones under very mild conditions. The corresponding chiral tertiary propargylic alcohols were obtained with enantiomeric excesses of up to 81%.

Abstract:A chiral polymer ligand was synthesized by the polymerization of (S)-5,5′-dibromo-6,6′-dibutyl-2,2′-binaphthol (S-M-1) with (S)-2,2′-bishexyloxy-1,1′-binaphthyl-6,6′-boronic acid (S-M-2) via Pd-catalyzed Suzuki reaction. The application of the chiral polymer ligand to the asymmetric addition of phenylethynyl zinc to various aldehydes has been studied. The results show that the soluble chiral polybinaphthols ligand in combination with Et2Zn and Ti(OiPr)4 can exhibit excellent enantioselectivity for phenylacetylene addition to both aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes. The catalytically active center of the repeating unit S-1 used as a catalyst produced the opposite configuration of the propargylic alcohols to that of S-1, on the contrary, the chiral polymer gave the same configuration as the optically active binaphthol moiety of the polybinaphthols ligand. Moreover, the chiral polymer ligand can be easily recovered and reused without loss of catalytic activity as well as enantioselectivity.

Abstract:Herein, we developed a highly enantioselective acyl C–H allylation of aldehydes and formamides, which proceeds under the cooperative catalysis of a chiral PHOX nickel complex and tetrabutylammonium decatungstate (TBADT). With readily available Morita–Baylis–Hillman adducts as the electrophilic allylating agent, the reported reaction allows for the synthesis of α-stereogenic β,γ-unsaturated 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds in a highly enantioselective manner. The preliminary mechanistic investigations point to an enantioconvergent reaction pathway, in which rapid kinetic resolution of the starting allyl acetates through oxidative addition to Ni(0) is followed by dynamic kinetic resolution of the resultant allyl Ni(II) complexes via the interaction with acyl radicals generated by TBADT-mediated homolytic acyl C–H bond cleavage.

Abstract:DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level were performed to understand the mechanism of the recently developed trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TfOH) catalyzed intermolecular additions of phenols and protected amines to simple olefins. A novel mechanism involving a concerted, eight- membered-ring transition structure for the addition of the alcohol/amine to the alkene with TfOH as a catalyst was located. In the addition transition structure, the alkene sub-strafe is protonated and has significant carbocation character. Calculations to rationalize the relative reactivities of the alcohols and amines, together with the regioselectivity of amide addition to the diene, were also conducted.
