Abstract:Annular aggregation: Atomic force microscopy and the recently developed microsecond force spectroscopy are used to identify a new annular structure of human Islet amyloid polypeptide on negatively charged tantalum oxide, a substrate that has the same surface charge as cell membranes (see figure). Finally, an accumulation model is proposed to explain how annular aggregation is initiated and developed. Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as ”Supporting Information”.
