Abstract:Dotting the wires: Nanowires have been engineered to have a quantum dot of a narrower bandgap sandwiched between p- and n-type segments of a wider bandgap. Electrons and holes can be selectively injected into the quantum dot to emit light. Due to the small size, this quantum-dot nanowire structure can potentially function as a single-photon source.
