Abstract:Luminescent CuInS2 nanocrystals have been synthesized in dodecanethiol using air-stable precursors. The nanocrystals were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The optical properties of the CuInS2 nanocrystals can be controlled by changing the reaction conditions, such as reaction time, temperature, and addition of ligands. It was found that the steady-state photoluminescence spectrum of the close-packed CuInS2 nanocrystals on glass substrate peaked at longer wavelength than that of the colloidal ones and the close-packed nanocrystals possessed a shorter luminescence decay time. This behavior was explained on the basis of Förster resonant energy transfer due to the shorter distance between nanocrystals on substrate.

Abstract:A facile in situ synthetic method is developed to synthesize metal sulfide nanoparticles based on 2D M-TCPP (M = Cu, Cd, or Co, TCPP = tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin)) metal-organic framework nanosheets. The obtained CuS/Cu-TCPP composite nanosheet is used as the active material in photoelectrochemical cells, showing notably increased photocurrent due to the improved exciton separation and charge carrier transport.

Abstract:Quaternary CuInSSe nanocrystals have been synthesized by a colloidal route using commercially available materials. Oleylamine is used as the solvent and capping agent. It is proved that the nanocrystals are alloyed nanocrystals rather than a mixture of CuInS2 and CuInSe2 nanocystals. Furthermore, their formation is regarded to involve the nucleation of CuS and the subsequent reaction between CuS nuclei and remaining precursors. It is also found that the composition and structure of the nanocrystals can be influenced significantly by the reaction temperatures and time. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Non-Injection Synthesis of CuInS2/ZnS Nanocrystals and the Effect of Hydrophilic Surface Modification on Photoluminescence

Abstract:We proposed a facile non-injection method for the synthesis of CuInS2/ZnS nanocrystals by using metal acetylacetonate complexes as the universal metal precursors in 1-dodecanethiol, and 1-dodecanethiol was used both as solvent and the only source of sulfur. This method eliminated the use of phosphines for the preparation of copper and indium precursors. ZnS shell was introduced to enhance the photoluminescence and stability of the as-synthesized CuInS2 nanocrystals. This shell growth process not only increased the quantum yields of CuInS2 nanocrystals but also provided an effective way to continuously tune the emissions from similar to 665 nm to similar to 575 nm. This non-toxic core shell system could be easily transferred into water by surface modification treatment with bioconnpatible carboxylic acid groups, which dropped the emission intensity for about 30% while this water-soluble characteristic made such nanoscrystals meet the basic requirement for biological imaging applications. We also proved the feasibility of such method for the synthesis of other ternary I-III-VI2 nanocrystals such as CuInSe2 and AgInSe2.

Abstract:Heavy-metal-free I-III-VI2 quantum dots (QDs) have recently emerged as favorable alternatives to toxic II-VI QDs for optoelectronic and biological applications, but low fluorescence efficiency is a key issue related to the promising nanocrystals. In this work, we demonstrate big enhancement of two-photon fluorescence efficiency and low threshold two-photon pumped amplification of spontaneous emission (ASE) of Zn-processed CuInS2 (CIS) QDs for the first time. The change of two-photon process caused by Zn2+ cation exchange in CIS QDs is systematically investigated. Two-photon ASE in Zn-processed CIS QDs films is achieved with a record of low threshold fluence of 5.7 mu J/cm(2). With high two-photon fluorescence quantum yields and low threshold ASE, the Zn-processed CIS QDs could become a promising candidate for two-photon bioimaging, nonlinear optical and novel QDs laser devices.

Abstract:ZnS nanoparticles and one-dimensional nanocrystals were obtained by in-situ synthesis in Aa-AMPS-hT ternary periodic copolymer by ion complexometry and self-assembly method. The micro-morphology, structure and optical properties were characterized by TEM, SED, UV-vis spectra and PL spectra. The results show that the products are hexagonal ZnS nanocrystals with 15 nm-215 nm in diameter. The morphology and dimension of ZnS nanoparticles could be controlled by varying the sulfaration time. The UV-vis absorption spectra indicate that the absorption edges are blue-shifted by shortening the sulfuration time, exhibiting a marked quantum size effect. With shortening sulfuration time, the photoluminescence emission peak of 409.8 nm is blue-shifted, which could be ascribed to be the forbidden gap emission.

Abstract:High-efficiency photoluminescence quaternary hexagon Zn–Cu–In–S (ZCIS) nanoplatelets (NPls) have been synthesized by a two-step cation exchange method, which starts with the In2S3 NPls followed by the addition of Cu and Zn. It is the first time that In2S3 NPls are used as templates to synthesize ZCIS NPls. In this paper, the reaction temperature of In2S3 is essential for the formation of NPls. The photoluminescence wavelength of NPls can be tuned by adjusting the temperature of Cu addition. To enhance the stability of the resulting NPls and to improve their optical properties, we introduced Zn2+ and obtained ZCIS NPls by cation exchange on the surface. It is worth noting that the obtained ZCIS NPls show a shorter fluorescence lifetime than other ternary copper sulfide-based NPls. This work provides a new way to synthesize high-efficiency, nontoxic, and no byproduct ZCIS NPls.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Copper-based ternary halide composites have attracted great attention due to their superior chemical stability and optical properties. Herein, we developed an ultrafast high-power ultrasonic synthesis strategy to realize the uniform nucleation and growth of highly luminescent and stable Cs3Cu2I5 nanocrystals (NCs). The as-synthesized Cs3Cu2I5 NCs show uniform hexagonal morphology with an average mean size of 24.4 nm and emit blue light with a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of ∼85%. Moreover, the Cs3Cu2I5 NCs exhibit a remarkable stability during continuous eight times heating/cooling cycling tests (303-423 K). We also demonstrated an efficient and stable white light-emitting diode (WLED) with a high luminous efficiency (LE) of 41.5 lm W-1 and a Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) color coordinate of (0.33,0.33).

Abstract:In this study, an efficient green light-emitting CuInS2/ZnS core/shell quantum dots were synthesized using a low temperature (130 °C) hot injection methods combined with multi-layers ZnS coating strategy. S-OAm (S powder dissolved in oleylamine) was used as sulfur source instead of conventional dodecanethiol, which supplied high concentration of H2S at low temperature and led to explosive nucleation of CuInS2 and hence high concentration small size of CIS cores. Meanwhile, this method could supply enough sulfur sources for the ZnS coating process, resulting in high quality ZnCuInS2 alloyed interface and ZnS surface coating layers, which led to excellent lattice match between the CuInS2 core and ZnS shells, and better surface passivation. As the consequence, a maximum photoluminescence quantum yields of ∼85% at peak wavelength of ∼530 nm has been achieved. Based on this, the light emitting diodes with a maximum luminance of 4450 cd m−2, luminous efficiency of 3.52 cd A−1 and an external quantum efficiency of 1.44% has been obtained, which is the best result so far for the green emission light emitting diodes based on the CuInS2 quantum dots.

Abstract:CuInS2 nanocrystals were synthesized by one-pot thermolysis of a mixture solution of metal chlorides, 1-dodecanethiol (DT) and oleic acid in noncoordinating solvent 1-octadecene. Interestingly, in this synthesis, different structures and shapes were obtained by simply varying the dosage of DT. At a low dosage of DT, wurtzite nanoplates formed in the initial reaction stage and then they further grew to nanoplates with wurtzite-zincblende polytypism as the reaction proceeded. On the contrary, a high dosage of DT produced zincblende nanoparticles. The formation processes of nanoplates and nanoparticles were studied and a growth mechanism was proposed. Our research will aid in solution-synthesis of ternary chalcogenide nanocrystals and the development of their optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Uniform cubic phase CuI nanowires and nanorods were synthesized via hydrothermal treatment. The mechanism of the nanostructure evolution is discussed on the basis of SEM and TEM experimental results. It is shown that the initial solution concentration and the reaction time influence the product morphology. Photoluminescence of CuI nanowires show a 2-fold enhancement over that of nanorods.

Abstract:Wurtzite CuInS2 nanocrystals have been synthesized by direct reaction of copper nitrate, indium nitrate and dodecanethiol. The size and shape of the nanocrystals could be elaborately controlled by varying the Cu/In ratio and additional ligands other than dodecanethiol, such as oleylamine and oleic acid. Especially, the nanorods obtained under a Cu/In raw material ratio of 2 : 1 with the assistance of both dodecanethiol and oleic acid have good uniformity. They could further assemble into large-scale superlattices on substrates by solvent evaporation method. On the other hand, the optical property studies of the nanocrystals show that the band gap of wurtzite CuInS2 is 1.63 eV, which is optimal for solar cell applications. This report provides valuable insight into the controlled synthesis of ternary I-III-VI2 semiconductors and the assembly process, packing them into oriented films.

Abstract:High-quality nanostructured ZnxCd1-xS has been synthesized through a method of two-step thermal evaporation. The typical morphologies of the nanomaterials were investigated by SEM and TEM. The first step of synthesis is the preparation of ZnS nanoribbons. With ZnS nanoribbons being used as templates, a series of wurtzite ZnxCd1-xS (x = 0.47, 0.70, 0.77, 0.85, and 0.94) nanobelts can be produced. Furthermore, by adopting ZnS nanoribbons of a particular width, ZnxCd1-xS nanobelts of a desired width can be fabricated. In XRD analysis, we find that with an increase in Zn content (x), the peaks corresponding to the wurtzite structures shift to larger 2 theta. As a deduction based on Vegard's law, the ZnxCd1-xS are solid solutions of similar crystal structure. The results of H RTEM and SAED investigations reveal that the ZnS nanoribbons and ZnxCd1-xS nanobelts grow along the (10 (1) over bar0) direction. With an increase in Zn content, we observe a gradual blue shift of photoluminescence emission (from 443 to 352 nm), further indicating the homogeneity of the ZnxCd1-xS solid solutions. After proper thermal annealing, there is better crystallinity of ZnxCd1-xS and higher specificity of near-band emission.

Abstract:Metastable zinc blende CuInSe(2) nanocrystals were synthesized by a hot-injection approach. It was found that the lattice mismatches between zinc blende CuInSe(2) and ZnSe as well as CuInSe(2) and CuInS(2) are only 2.0% and 4.6%, respectively. Thus, alloyed (ZnSe)(x)(CuInSe(2))(1-x) and CuInSe(x)S(2-x) nanocrystals with a zinc blende structure have been successfully synthesized over the entire composition range, and the band gaps of alloys can be tuned in the range from 2.82 to 0.96 eV and 1.43 to 0.98 eV, respectively. These alloyed (ZnSe)(x)(CuInSe(2))(1-x) and CuInSe(x)S(2-x) nanocrystals with a broad tunable band gap have a high potential for photovoltaic and photocatalytic applications.

Abstract:The ratio of cardiac involvement of Echinoccocus granulosus is 0.02-2% and although seen rarely, involvement of the interatrial septum has also been reported in the published literature. The present case was a 19-year-old male university student admitted to hospital with complaints of headache and dizziness. Computerized tomography of the cranium revealed a cystic mass located at the frontal region and enucleation of the cyst was performed during surgery. A cystic lesion 5 x 4 cm in size was detected within the interatrial septum on two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography during the postoperative period and the patient was referred to our clinic. Open heart surgery was performed and a hydatid cyst that involved the interatrial septum was enucleated. The cyst wall was sutured to the interatrial septum. No complications developed during the postoperative period. The patient was discharged on the fifth day of hospitalization and medical therapy was started with albendazole.

Abstract:Copper indium sulfide (CuInS2) is a ternary A(I)B(III)X(VI)2-type semiconductor featuring a direct bandgap with a high absorption coefficient. In attempts to explore their practical applications, nanoscale CuInS2 has been synthesized with crystal sizes down to the quantum confinement regime. The merits of CuInS2 nanocrystals (NCs) include wide emission tunability, a large Stokes shift, long decay time, and eco-friendliness, making them promising candidates in photoelectronics and photovoltaics. Over the past two decades, advances in wet-chemistry synthesis have achieved rational control over cation-anion reactivity during the preparation of colloidal CuInS2 NCs and post-synthesis cation exchange. The precise nano-synthesis coupled with a series of hybridization strategies has given birth to a library of CuInS2 NCs with highly customizable photophysical properties. This review article focuses on the recent development of CuInS2 NCs enabled by advanced synthetic and hybridization techniques. We show that the state-of-the-art CuInS2 NCs play significant roles in optoelectronic and biomedical applications.

Abstract:Multinary quantum dots (QDs), owing to the large degree of freedom in their structure and composition, have a wide tunability in their bandgap and show an increased indeterminacy and complexity in their optical properties. In this work, a facile microwave-assisted aqueous route using sodium citrate and thioglycolic acid (TGA) as dual stabilizer was utilized to synthesize Cu-In-S/ZnS (CIS/ZnS) core/shell QDs. The effects of the shell thickness, refluxing time, pH value, temperature, Cu/In ratio and stabilizer on the morphology and optical properties of the CIS/ZnS QDs have been systematically investigated. The results show that the morphology-controllable alloyed CIS/ZnS QDs with tunable emission from 533 nm to 666 nm and long PL lifetime can be obtained by varying the molar ratio of sodium citrate to TGA. The proposed microwave-assisted aqueous synthesis method for alloyed QDs is simple, rapid, with comparatively low reaction temperature. The as-prepared QDs with the size of 3.8 nm are promising materials for lighting and biological applications. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We have developed an efficient strategy to improve the brightness and stability of CuInS 2 quantum dots via Ga 3+ doping combined with the overgrowth of ZnS shell. The incorporation of Ga 3+ in crystal lattices greatly suppresses the diffusion of Cu + and reduce the formation of Cu-related defects, leading to a photoluminescence quantum yield as high as 92%. These nanocrystals can be integrated into luminescent solar concentrators and the devices exhibit a power conversion efficiency reaching 3.87%.
