Moreover, the results enable us to provide new criteria/proofs of primeness or pseudo-primeness for certain well-known classes of entire functions.

Abstract:We prove that if f is a transcendental entire function and the set of all finite singularities of its inverse function f(-1) is bounded, then f(z) + P(z) is prime for any nonconstant polynomial P(z), unless f(z) and P(z) has a nonlinear common right factor. Abstract:For any polynomial $P \in \mathbb{C}[X_1,X_2,...,X_n]$, we describe a $\mathbb{C}$-vector space $F(P)$ of solutions of a linear system of equations coming from some algebraic partial differential equations such that the dimension of $F(P)$ is the number of irreducible factors of $P$. Moreover, the knowledge of $F(P)$ gives a complete factorization of the polynomial $P$ by taking gcd's. This generalizes previous results by Ruppert and Gao in the case $n=2$.

Foundations of Computational Mathematics

Abstract:We present an algorithm that, given an irreducible polynomial g over a general valued field ( K , v ), finds the factorization of g over the Henselianization of K under certain conditions. The analysis leading to the algorithm follows the footsteps of Ore, Mac Lane, Okutsu, Montes, Vaquié and Herrera–Olalla–Mahboub–Spivakovsky, whose work we review in our context. The correctness is based on a key new result (Theorem 4.10), exhibiting relations between generalized Newton polygons and factorization in the context of an arbitrary valuation. This allows us to develop a polynomial factorization algorithm and an irreducibility test that go beyond the classical discrete, rank-one case. These foundational results may find applications for various computational tasks involved in arithmetic of function fields, desingularization of hypersurfaces, multivariate Puiseux series or valuation theory.

Abstract:Factorization of polynomials is one of the foundations of symbolic computation. Its applications arise in numerous branches of mathematics and other sciences. However, the present advanced programming languages such as C++ and J++, do not support symbolic computation directly. Hence, it leads to difficulties in applying factorization in engineering fields. In this paper, the authors present an algorithm which use numerical method to obtain exact factors of a bivariate polynomial with rational coefficients. The proposed method can be directly implemented in efficient programming language such C++ together with the GNU Multiple-Precision Library. In addition, the numerical computation part often only requires double precision and is easily parallelizable.

Abstract:Polynomial factorization in conventional sense is an ill-posed problem due to its discontinuity with respect to coefficient perturbations, making it a challenge for numerical computation using empirical data. As a regularization, this paper formulates the notion of numerical factorization based on the geometry of polynomial spaces and the stratification of factorization manifolds. Furthermore, this paper establishes the existence, uniqueness, Lipschitz continuity, condition number, and convergence of the numerical factorization to the underlying exact factorization, leading to a robust and efficient algorithm with a MATLAB implementation capable of accurate polynomial factorizations using floating point arithmetic even if the coefficients are perturbed.

Abstract:An exponential polynomial is a finite linear sum of terms $P(z)e^{Q(z)}$, where $P(z)$ and $Q(z)$ are polynomials. The early results on the value distribution of exponential polynomials can be traced back to Georg Pólya's paper published in 1920, while the latest results have come out in 2021. Despite of over a century of research work, many intriguing problems on value distribution of exponential polynomials still remain unsolved. The role of exponential polynomials and their quotients in the theories of linear/non-linear differential equations, oscillation theory and differential-difference equations will also be discussed. Thirteen open problems are given to motivate the readers for further research in these topics.

Abstract:Factorization of polynomials arises in numerous areas in symbolic computation. It is an important capability in many symbolic and algebraic computation. There are two type of factorization of polynomials. One is convention polynomial factorization, and the other approximate polynomial factorization. Conventional factorization algorithms use symbolic methods to get exact factors of a polynomial while approximate factorization algorithms use numerical methods to get approximate factors of a polynomial. Symbolic computation often confront intermediate expression swell problem, which lower the efficiency of factorization. The numerical computation is famous for its high efficiency, but it only gives approximate results. In this paper, we present an algorithm which use approximate method to get exact factors of a multivariate polynomial. Compared with other methods, this method has the numerical computation advantage of high efficiency for some class of polynomials with factors of lower degree. The experimental results show that the method is more efficient than {\it factor} in Maple 9.5 for polynomials with more variables and higher degree.

We formulate and solve two problems: i) Characterization of polynomials for which all linear combinations are factorizable. ii) How many linear factorizable combinations are required for all linear combinations to be factorizable. Abstract:Let $p(z)$ be a nonconstant polynomial and $\beta(z)$ be a small entire function of $e^{p(z)}$ in the sense of Nevanlinna. We first describe the growth behavior of the entire function $H(z):=e^{p(z)}\int_0^{z}\beta(t)e^{-p(t)}dt$ on the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$. As an application, we solve entire solutions of Tumura--Clunie type differential equation $f(z)^n+P(z,f)=b_1(z)e^{p_1(z)}+b_2(z)e^{p_2(z)}$, where $b_1(z)$ and $b_2(z)$ are nonzero polynomials, $p_1(z)$ and $p_2(z)$ are two polynomials of the same degree~$k\geq 1$ and $P(z,f)$ is a differential polynomial in $f$ of degree $\leq n-1$ with meromorphic functions of order~$<k$ as coefficients. These results allow us to determine all solutions with relatively few zeros of the second-order differential equation $f''-[b_1(z)e^{p_1(z)}+b_2(z)e^{p_2(z)}+b_3(z)]f=0$, where $b_3(z)$ is a polynomial. We also prove a theorem on certain first-order linear differential equation related to complex dynamics.

Abstract:Ştefănescu proved an elegant factorization result for polynomials over discrete valuation domains [CASC'2014, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Ed. by V. Gerdt, W. Koepf, W. Mayr, and E. Vorozhtsov, Springer, Berlin, {Vol. \textbf{8660}}, pp. 460--471, 2014.] In this paper, a generalization of Ştefănescu's result is proved to cover a larger class of polynomials over discrete valuation domains. Such results are useful in devising algorithms for polynomial factorization.

Factorisability of the Harer-Zagier Transform of the HOMFLY-PT polynomial

Abstract:The Harer-Zagier (HZ) transform maps the HOMFLY-PT polynomial into a rational function. For some special knots and links, the latter has a simple factorised form, both in the numerator and denominator. This property seems to be preserved under full twists and concatenation with the Jucys--Murphy's braid, which are hence used to generate infinite families with HZ factorisability. For such families, the HOMFLY-PT polynomial can be fully encoded in two sets of integers, corresponding to the numerator and denominator exponents. These exponents turn out to be related to the Khovanov homology and its Euler characteristics. A criterion for when factorisability occurs is found via a conjectural relation between the HOMFLY-PT and Kauffman polynomials, which is proven in several special cases. The latter is equivalent to the vanishing of the two-crosscap BPS invariant of topological strings.

Abstract:A factor of a graph is a spanning subgraph satisfying some given conditions. An earlier survey of factors can be traced back to the Akiyama and Kano [J. Graph Theory, 1985, 9: 1-42] in which they described the characterization of factors in (bipartite) graphs and digraphs, respectively. Soon after, Kouider and Vestergaard summarized the findings related to connected factors [Graphs Combin., 2005, 21(1): 1-26]. Plummer extended the aforementioned research by providing a comprehensive overview of progress made in the study of graph factors and factorization from 1985 to 2003 [Discrete Math., 2007, 7-8: 791-821]. In this paper, we aim to summarize the relevant results regarding factors from the perspective of eigenvalues.

Abstract:Function theory on the unit disc proved key to a range of problems in statistics, probability theory, signal processing literature, and applications, and in this, a special place is occupied by trigonometric functions and the Fejer-Riesz theorem that non-negative trigonometric polynomials can be expressed as the modulus of a polynomial of the same degree evaluated on the unit circle. In the present note we consider a natural generalization of non-negative trigonometric polynomials that are matrix-valued with specified non-trivial poles (i.e., other than at the origin or at infinity). We are interested in the corresponding spectral factors and, specifically, we show that the factorization of trigonometric polynomials can be carried out in complete analogy with the Fej ' er-Riesz theorem. The affinity of the factorization with the Fej ' er-Riesz theorem and the contrast to classical spectral factorization lies in the fact that the spectral factors have degree smaller than what standard construction in factorization theory would suggest. We provide two juxtaposed proofs of this fundamental theorem, albeit for the case of strict positivity, one that relies on analytic interpolation theory and another that utilizes classical factorization theory based on the Yacubovich-Popov-Kalman (YPK) positive-real lemma.
