Abstract:According to low input voltage,large input current,small input current ripple and high-gain requirements of energy feedback electronic load system,an active clamping current-fed half-bridge converter with input parallel and output series is proposed.All switches of this converter can achieve ZVS at the turn-on instant and its control is very simple.Furthermore,the converter reduces the input current ripple,expands the capacity of input current and doubles the output voltage.The turn ratio,leakage inductance and secondary rectification mode of the transformer and the con-stant current control of the input current are introduced.Finally,a 1 V-input 48 V-output 200 W prototype is built.The experimental result shows that the proposed converter with input of low-voltage and large-current can work in stable state and satisfy the requirements of energy feedback electronic load system.
A Soft-switching Active-clamp Flyback Converter with Full ZVS-range

Abstract:An active clamp flyback converter, which can achieve ZVS in the whole operation range, is presented. This circuit can recycle transformer leakage energy, minimize switch voltage stress and provide a mechanism for achieving ZVS of both the primary and auxiliary switches. ZVS also limits the turn-off di/dt of the output rectifier, reducing rectifier switching losses, and switching noises due to diode reverse recovery. The behavior of the operation mode of this converter is analyzed and the design considerations for the key components and derices are given. The soft-switching characteristic of the converter is verified by a 100W prototype.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new ZVS-PWM Buck converter, which is based on the active clamping technique. With an active clamping cell, the voltage ringing caused by the resonance between the auxiliary inductor and parasitic capacitor is eliminated. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) can be achieved for all the switches. A 90 W/1 MHz ZVS PWM Buck converter is implemented to verify the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:An active clamping soft-switching three-phase grid-connected inverter is introduced in this paper. With adding a simple auxiliary branch, all of the switches in the inverter can realize zero voltage switching (ZVS). No additional voltage stress will be caused. A modulation scheme to realize high efficiency power conversion is presented in this paper. Especially when the grid side power factor is not unity, modulation scheme is discussed. The proposed modulation scheme is verified in a 30kW prototype.

Abstract:A novel active clamping zero-voltage switching three-phase boost pulsewidth modulation (PWM) rectifier is analyzed and a modified minimum-loss space vector modulation (SVM) strategy suitable for the novel zero-voltage switching (ZVS) rectifier is proposed in this paper. The topology of the novel ZVS rectifier only adds one auxiliary active switch, one resonant inductor, and one clamping capacitor to the traditional hard-switched three-phase boost PWM rectifier. With the proposed SVM strategy, the novel ZVS rectifier can achieve ZVS for all the main and auxiliary switches. In addition, the antiparallel diodes can be turned OFF softly, so the reverse recovery current is eliminated. Besides, the voltage stress of all the switches is equal to the dc-link voltage. The operation principle and soft-switching condition of the novel ZVS rectifier are analyzed. The design guidelines of the soft switched circuit parameters are described in detail. A DSP controlled 30 kW prototype is implemented to verify the theory.

Abstract:A novel active clamping zero voltage switching SVM controlled three-phase grid connected inverter is proposed in this paper. The inverter can realize zero voltage switching (ZVS) operation for all switching devices. In addition, the anti-parallel diode reverse recovery current of all switch devices is suppressed well. Space vector modulation can be realized with all the switching devices operating at the fixed switching frequency. And the switching voltage stress of all the power switch devices is equal to the DC link voltage, no additional voltage stresses is added on the power devices. The ZVS inverter can work both under Grid-connected condition and with independent loads. The soft switching condition of this inverter is analyzed. The operation principal and design guideline are described. A DSP controlled active clamping zero voltage switching three-phase inverter prototype is built to verify the theory.

Abstract:A resonant current-fed push-pull converter with active clamping is investigated for vehicle inverter application in this paper. A communal clamping capacitor and a voltage doubler topology are employed. Moreover, two kinds of resonances to realize ZVS ON of MOSFETs or to remove reverse-recovery problem of secondary diodes are analyzed and an optimized resonance is utilized for volume restriction. At last, a 150W prototype with 10V to 16V input voltage, 360V output voltage is implemented to verify the design.

Abstract:Targeting at low-power high-density bus converter applications, a megahertz active-clamp resonant forward converter with whole-load-range zero-voltage switching and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) characteristics is proposed in this paper, which improves system efficiency performance. Compared with previous resonant forward converters, the proposed converter can effectively reduce the root-mean-square current and the conduction loss. To realize zero-voltage-switching turn ON of switch over the entire input voltage range, a dead-time control is adopted to account for the nonlinear capacitors of switches. Besides, given fixed resonant parameters, the ZVZCS feature can be maintained at various combinations of operating frequency and duty cycle, which is a unique advantage over conventional resonant converters. Based on this concept, a load-adaptive ON-time control that can significantly reduce core loss is proposed to improve the light-load efficiency. A 66-W 24-V-to-12-V prototype is built up to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter, which achieves 96% full-load efficiency and 93.5% 10%-load efficiency.

Abstract:In this paper, for isolated bidirectional dual-bridge series resonant DC-DC converters (DBSRCs), the conditions for wide-range zero-voltage switching (ZVS) under the control of phase shift modulation (PSM) and variable frequency modulation (VFM)are analyzed. For the purpose of accuracy, this strategy is based on time-domain analysis instead of fundamental harmonic approximation (FHA), and in dead-band, the changes of inductor current is also be considered. Meanwhile, for variable load at different voltage gain, an improved control strategy is given to fulfill the requirements of ZVS. Verification of the analysis and equation through experiments are provided in the last.
A Family of Novel Zero-Voltage Switching Three-Phase PWM Converters Topology for Distributed Generation

Abstract:Because of the need of energy saving and emission reduction, we see a quick increase of installed renewable energy distributed generation systems. Three-phase PWM Grid-side converter is widely used for medium and large capacity distributed generation systems. Traditionally hard-switching three-phase PWM converters are used, which causes severe switching loss, high di/dt and EMI. In this paper, a family of novel zero voltage switching three-phase PWM converter topologies under two types of active clamping are proposed. Novel space vector modulation schemes for the three-phase PWM converter is proposed. With the proposed space vector modulation scheme, the converters can realize zero voltage switching (ZVS) operation for all switching devices while the anti-parallel diode reverse recovery of all switch devices is suppressed. It has features fixed switching frequency, and lower voltage stress of the power switch devices. The different converters in the family are compared with respect to soft switching conditions, stress, adaptability to DC side voltage variation. Prototypes are built to verify the theory.

Abstract:A simple current-feed single-switch forward resonant converter with secondary diode-clamping is proposed for low power high-density bus converter applications in this paper. The quasi-zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) turn on and quasi-zero-current-switching (ZCS) turn off for switch are both achieved. Due to the quasi-ZCS turn off, the high voltage spike in traditional single forward converter with a reset winding is much reduced. A small diode connecting to the output capacitor is utilized to clamp the voltage stress of the switches. The operating principle of the proposed converter is analyzed and a MHz 66W 24V-to-12V prototype with all Si devices is built up. Experimental results show good soft-switching features, and the prototype converter achieves 95.3% peak efficiency with 270W/in(3) power density.

Abstract:This paper presents the modeling and design of a novel ZVZC FB-PWM converter. Compared to the traditional topology which employs a saturated inductor to block, the reverse current in order to achieve ZCS for the lagging leg, a novel one using two diodes in series with the lagging leg is adopted. Both the duty ratio loss is reduced and the efficiency is improved, which further reliefs the problem of thermal handling caused by the saturated inductor. What's more, better stability and dynamic behavior are acquired. A complete small-signal model for the novel ZVZC FB-PWM converter is developed. Validation of design of equation and model prediction is accomplished through numerical solutions of steady-state nonlinear equations and experimental results of a 15 kW module converter operating at 20 kHz.

Abstract:For the aim to increase level number and reduce switches number of multi-level converter, two half-bridge Power Electronic Building Blocks (PEBB) are inserted into the DC side of a typical three-phase H-bridge converter, a novel seven-level converter is proposed in this paper. By using the H-bridge as a level doubling network, the natural point voltage imbalance of traditional Natural-Point Clamped converter (NPC) is avoided. Moreover, because of the symmetrical structure, a reasonable control scheme for the DC voltage balancing is adopted, which based on ways of both active current superposition and switching states selection. Meanwhile, the frequency limitation to the switching states swapping is applied with a low-pass filter to ensure the control stable. The circuit operation and converter performance are analyzed. The analysis and control scheme is verified by MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation results.

Abstract:To acquire a multi-level converter with reduced device count applied in the three-phase mid-voltage system,two half-bridge power electronic building blocks (PEBB) are inserted into the DC side of a typical three-phase H-bridge converter,a novel seven-level converter is demonstrated.By using the H-bridge as a level doubling network,the natural point voltage imbalance of the conventional natural-point clamped converter (NPC) is bypassed.Moreover,because of the symmetrical structure,a rational control scheme for the DC voltage balancing is adopted to facilitate active current superposition and switching states selection.The operation principle is analyzed in detail and the structure characteristics of the topology are deeply revealed while a two-layer compound control strategy for DC voltage balancing is designed.A novel multi-level pulse-width modulation(PWM)algorithm based on objective wave-state vector function is proposed for use in drive pulse generation in the novel topology.The MATLAB/Simulink model of 3.3 kV/5 MW grid-connected converter is built to verify the validity of the operation principle,modulation algorithm and voltage balancing control strategy.

Abstract:A novel converter is proposed in this paper to satisfy the high power, high step-up and isolated conversion requirements. In the proposed converter, the input-parallel configuration is adopted to share the large input current and reduce the conduction losses, while the output-series configuration is adopted to get a high voltage gain. Consequently, a transformer with a low turns ratio can be applied, which makes the transformer optimized easier. Moreover, the active clamp circuits are employed here to reduce the voltage stress of the switches and recycle the energy stored in the leakage inductance, and ZVT is achieved during the whole switching transition for all the active switches, so the switching losses can be reduced greatly. Furthermore, the diode reverse-recovery problem is partly solved due to the leakage inductance. Finally, a 40 V-input 400 V-output 1 kW prototype is built to demonstrate the theoretical analysis, and the maximum efficiency of 94.9% and 93.3% at full load are achieved.

Abstract:Three-phase four-wire rectifiers with a balancing leg are often used as front-end converters in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). The integration of minimum-voltage active-clamping (MVAC) to these rectifiers is proposed. With the proposed Zero-Voltage-Switching Sinusoidal PWM (ZVS-SPWM) scheme, ZVS operation for all power semiconductor devices of the rectifier are realized. The ZVS conditions under balanced and unbalanced load are derived. Then voltage and current stress of switching devices and auxiliary circuit are compared with the compound-active-clamping (CAC) three-phase four-wire rectifier. Finally, the proposed circuit and its control scheme are verified with a 10kW experiment prototype.

Abstract:In this article, the generic analysis and design of zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) multiphase ac/dc converters are proposed. With the edge aligned pulsewidth modulation (PWM) (EA-PWM) scheme, all switches of ZVS multiphase ac/dc converters can realize ZVS operation. Besides, the switching frequency is fixed and the auxiliary switch only operates once in each switching period. Its operation stages in a switching cycle are analyzed and a generic ZVS condition is derived. Based on the proposed theory, a ZVS two-stage three-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverter is investigated, which is regarded as a five-phase converter. Its ZVS condition under different working conditions is discussed. Finally, a 10-kW prototype with 150 kHz switching frequency of the ZVS two-stage three-phase PV inverter is built and the experimental results are given to verify the analysis. In addition, the extension of the ZVS multiphase converter in different applications is introduced.
