Abstract:The authors discuss sufficient and necessary conditions guaranteeing the internal stability of systems. Counterexamples are constructed, and it is shown that conditions given by some current literature are not sufficient. The rigorous version is then given.

Abstract:A necessary and sufficient condition was presented for the quadratic stability of interval matrices and a related calculation method of stability margin. The results were obtained in terms of LMIs. With the powerful LMI toolbox, it was very convenient to solve this problem. Examples showed that this method is effective in determining the robust stability and related stability margin of interval matrices.

Abstract:The synthesis problem of reliable robust control for a class of dynamic systems is considered.A practical and general faults model with sensor,actuator is addressed.A necessary and sufficient condition of D-stability is presented,based on which a sufficient condition of existence of the reliable H_∞controller is given for the case of sensor,actuator failures.The reliable H_∞controller is designed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs),which guarantees the closed-loop to be D-stable and possesses H_∞performance when all control components are operational as well as some control components experience failures.Finally,a numerical example is given to illustrate the design procedures and the effectiveness.

Abstract:Consider three types of stochastic stabilities for adapted solutions of stochastic differential equations'(SDEs),namely,stochastically stability,stochastically asymptotically stability and globally stochastically asymptotically stability.By using Lyapunov's second method,Gard and Mao have given sufficient conditions for these three stabilities.However,their Lyapunov functions are supposed to be positive definite.Some loose conditions(i.e.,Lyapunov functions are not necessary to be positive definite) for Lyapunov functions are given by applying stochastic analysis technique.This is strict generalizations of the classical results.

Abstract:Strong stability is a property of time integration schemes for ODEs that preserve temporal monotonicity of solutions in arbitrary (inner product) norms. It is proved that explicit Runge--Kutta schemes of order $p\in 4\mathbb{N}$ with $s=p$ stages for linear autonomous ODE systems are not strongly stable, closing an open stability question from [Z.~Sun and C.-W.~Shu, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 57 (2019), 1158--1182]. Furthermore, for explicit Runge--Kutta methods of order $p\in\mathbb{N}$ and $s>p$ stages, we prove several sufficient as well as necessary conditions for strong stability. These conditions involve both the stability function and the hypocoercivity index of the ODE system matrix. This index is a structural property combining the Hermitian and skew-Hermitian part of the system matrix.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish a sufficient condition for the Schur stability, then use that result to establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the robust Schur stability of interval polynomial, from which an algorithm is developed to determine the Schur stability of interval polynomial. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the applicability of our algorithm.

Abstract:In this note, a sufficient condition is derived for the stability of a spatially invariant distributed dynamical system, based on the geometrical structure of the null space of a matrix polynomial. This condition is less conservative than the available computationally feasible criteria. Moreover, using the idea of parameter dependent linear matrix inequalities, a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained. Both of these two conditions are expressed by LMIs. While the necessity of the latter is lost if the degree of the related matrix polynomials is small, its conservativeness can be sequentially reduced.

Abstract:Some necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the stability of a networked system with linear time invariant dynamics. Connections among its subsystems are fixed but arbitrary, and every subsystem can have different dynamics. Based on these results, some necessary or sufficient conditions are further obtained for both its stability and robust stability, which essentially depend only on parameter matrices of each individual subsystem and the subsystem connection matrix. This characteristic makes them attractive in the analysis and synthesis of a large scale networked system.

Abstract:In this paper, a necessary and sufficient condition is derived for the stability of the Fornasini-Marchesini (FM) first model proposed for two-dimensional (2-D) dynamic system descriptions. A connection has been established between the stability of this model and the structured singular value (SSV) of a constant matrix, which is now widely known in control theories. Based on this connection, a novel sufficient condition is obtained for the stability of the FM first model that is more computationally convenient in filter design. Numerical simulations show that this sufficient condition is usually less conservative than that of . Moreover, the stability margin of the FM first model is also investigated. It is shown that a 2-D system remains stable under parametric variations if and only if the SSV of a constant matrix is smaller than one

Abstract:We study abstract sufficient criteria for cost-uniform open-loop stabilizability of linear control systems in a Banach space with a bounded control operator, which build up and generalize a sufficient condition for null-controllability in Banach spaces given by an uncertainty principle and a dissipation estimate. For stabilizability these estimates are only needed for a single spectral parameter and, in particular, their constants do not depend on the growth rate w.r.t. this parameter. Our result unifies and generalizes earlier results obtained in the context of Hilbert spaces. As an application we consider fractional powers of elliptic differential operators with constant coefficients in for and thick control sets.

Abstract:We study stability criteria for discrete time switching systems. We investigate the structure of sets of LMIs that are a sufficient condition for stability (i.e., such that any switching system which satisfies these LMIs is stable). We provide an exact characterization of these sets. As a corollary, we show that it is PSPACE-complete to recognize whether a particular set of LMIs implies the stability of a switching system.
