Abstract:In the past few decades, the penetration characteristics of a plane wave through various cylin- drical apertures have been examined by some authors. For example, Harrington and Mautz have investigated EM penetration into a conducting circular cylinder through a narrow slot using the method of moment (1, 2), Ziolkowski and Grant have studied the scattering from some cavity- backed cylindrical apertures using the generalized dual series method (3), and Felsen and Vecchi have developed a resonant mode expansion for wave scattering from slit coupled cylindrical cavities with interior loading (4). Practically, these studies have been mainly motivated by developing new techniques for solving penetration problems. In this study, the multiple penetration characteristics of a E-polarisation plane wave through mul- tiple cylindrical apertures are investigated using the technique of direct integral equation combined with Galerkin's procedure. At first, the integral equation for determining the induced currents on multiple perfectly conducting strips is constructed. Then, the currents are furthermore expanded in the form of a series of Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind and the edge effects of all strips are also taken into account. Finally, parameter studies are performed to demonstrate the resonant characteristics of the penetrated internal fields through various multiple apertures. It is shown that the near-zone field pattern is the function of many different factors, for instance, the incident wave frequency and direction, the angular width and number of apertures, et al., and the appearance of the different effects depends on the combination of all of these factors.
