Abstract:This paper reports the explicit analytical solutions for Kolmogorov’s equations. Kolmogorov’s equations are commonly used to describe the structure of local isotropic turbulence, but their exact analytical solutions have not yet been found. In this paper, the closed-form solutions for two kinds of Kolmogorov’s equations are obtained. The derivations of the approximate solutions are based on the homotopy analysis method, which is a new tool for obtaining the approximate analytical solutions of both strong and weak nonlinear differential equations. To examine the validity of the approximate solutions, numerical comparisons between results from the homotopy analysis method and the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method are carried out. It is shown that the results are in good agreement.

Abstract:It is well known that the Kolmogorov equation plays an important role in applied science. For example, the nonlinear filtering problem, which plays a key role in modern technologies, was solved by Yau and Yau [1] by reducing it to the off-line computation of the Kolmogorov equation. In this paper, we develop a theorical foundation of using the wavelet-Galerkin method to solve linear parabolic P.D.E. We apply our theory to the Kolmogorov equation. We give a rigorous proof that the solution of the Kolmogorov equation can be approximated very well in any finite domain by our wavelet-Galerkin method. An example is provided by using Daubechies D 4 scaling functions.

We present a priori estimates and unique solvability results in the mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces for the kinetic Kolmogorov–Fokker–Planck (KFP) equation in divergence form. The leading coefficients are bounded uniformly nondegenerate with respect to the velocity variable [math] and satisfy a vanishing mean oscillation (VMO) type condition. We consider the [math] case separately and treat more general equations, which include the relativistic KFP equation. Abstract:The homotopy analysis method (HAM) is applied to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE) emerging from a closure model of the von Karman-Howarth equation which models the decay of isotropic turbulence. In the infinite Reynolds number limit, the von Karman-Howarth equation admits a symmetry reduction leading to the aforementioned one-parameter ODE. Though the latter equation is not fully integrable, it can be integrated once for two particular parameter values and, for one of these values, the relevant boundary conditions can also be satisfied. The key result of this paper is that for the generic case, HAM is employed such that solutions for arbitrary parameter values are derived. We obtain explicit analytical solutions by recursive formulas with constant coefficients, using some transformations of variables in order to express the solutions in polynomial form. We also prove that the Loitsyansky invariant is a conservation law for the asymptotic form of the original equation.

Abstract:We study the long-time behavior of viscosity solutions for time-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi equations by the dynamical approach based on weak KAM (Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser) theory due to Fathi. We establish a general convergence result for viscosity solutions and adherence of the graph as t→∞.

Abstract:In this paper, we devise a new unified algebraic method to construct a series of explicit exact solutions for general nonlinear equations. Compared with most existing methods such as tanh method, Jacobi elliptic function method and homogeneous balance method, the proposed method not only gives new and more general solutions, but also provides a guideline to classify the various types of the solutions according to the values of some parameters. The solutions obtained in this paper include (a) polynomial solutions, (b) exponential solutions, (c) rational solutions, (d) triangular periodic wave solutions, (e) hyperbolic, and soliton solutions, (f) Jacobi, and Weierstrass doubly periodic wave solutions. The efficiency of the method can be demonstrated on a large variety of nonlinear equations such as those considered in this paper, combined KdV–MKdV, Camassa–Holm, Kaup–Kupershmidt, Jaulent–Miodek, (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long wave, new (2+1)-dimensional generalized Hirota, (2+1)-dimensional breaking soliton and double sine-Gordon equations. In addition, the links among our proposed method, the tanh method, the extended method and the Jacobi function expansion method are also clarified generally.

Abstract:Given global Lipschitz continuity and differentiability of high enough order on the coefficients in Itô's equation, differentiability of associated semigroups, existence of twice differentiable solutions to Kolmogorov equations and weak convergence rates of numerical approximations are known results. In this work and against the counterexamples of Hairer et al.(2015), the drift and diffusion coefficients having Lipschitz constants that are $o(\log V)$ and $o(\sqrt{\log V})$ respectively for a function $V$ satisfying $(\partial_t + L)V\leq CV$ is shown to be a generalizing condition in place of global Lipschitz continuity for the above.

Abstract:A generalized expansion method is proposed to uniformly construct a series of exact solutions for general variable coefficients non-linear evolution equations. The new approach admits the following types of solutions (a) polynomial solutions, (b) exponential solutions, (c) rational solutions, (d) triangular periodic wave solutions, (e) hyperbolic and solitary wave solutions and (f) Jacobi and Weierstrass doubly periodic wave solutions. Abstract:In this paper, based on a new general ansatze, the extended G^'G-expansion method is proposed to seek exact solutions of nonlinear evolution equations. Being concise and straightforward, this method is applied to construct travelling wave solutions of Whitham-Broer-Kaup-Like equations and coupled Hirota-Satsuma KdV equations. By using this method, new exact solutions involving parameters, expressed by three types of functions which are the hyperbolic functions, the trigonometric functions and the rational functions, are obtained. When the parameters are taken as special values, some solitary wave solutions are derived from the hyperbolic function solutions.

Abstract:Using an idea going back to Madelung we construct global in time solutions to the transport equation corresponding to the asymptotic solution of the Kolmogorov-Feller equation describing a system with diffusion, potential and jump terms. To do that we use the construction of a generalized delta -shock solution of the continuity equation for a discontinuous velocity field. We also discuss corresponding problem of asymptotic solution construction (Maslov tunnel asymptotics).

Fundamental solutions to Kolmogorov-Fokker-Planck equations with rough coefficients: existence, uniqueness, upper estimates

Abstract:We show the existence and uniqueness of fundamental solution operators to Kolmo\-gorov-Fokker-Planck equations with rough (measurable) coefficients and local or integral diffusion on finite and infinite time strips. In the local case, that is to say when the diffusion operator is of differential type, we prove $Ł^2$ decay using Davies' method and the conservation property. We also prove that the existence of a generalized fundamental solution with the expected pointwise Gaussian upper bound is equivalent to Moser's $Ł^2-Ł^\infty$ estimates for local weak solutions to the equation and its adjoint. When coefficients are real, this gives the existence and uniqueness of such a generalized fundamental solution and a new and natural way to obtain pointwise decay.

Abstract:Due to the importance of the nonlinear partial differential equations in applied physics, many mathematicians and physicists are interesting to the nonlinear partial differential equations. One of the main tasks of studying the nonlinear partial differential equations is to obtain the exact solutions for the nonlinear partial differential equations. In this paper, we study the exact solutions of a generalized (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equation. According to the modified hyperbolic function method and the traveling transformation method, the generalized (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equation is changed into an ordinary differential equation. By taking the homogeneous balance between the highest order nonlinear terms and the derivatives of the highest order, we change the differential equation into an algebraic system. By solving the algebraic system, we obtain the solutions for the nonlinear partial differential equation. At last, some solutions and their figures are given by specific parameters. All the solutions conclude the triangle function solutions, the positive hyperbolic function solutions, and the hyperbolic triangle function solutions. These solutions exhibit the dynamics of nonlinear waves and the solutions are useful for the study on interaction behavior of nonlinear waves in shallow water, plasma, nonlinear optics and Bose–Einstein condensates.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to improving the general Kudryashov method by a new and general auxiliary equation. So, a new method is introduced, which we call 'the general improved Kudryashov method', to produce exact solutions for nonlinear evolution equations arising in mathematical physics. As application examples, exact traveling wave solutions for the combined Korteweg–de Vries and modified Korteweg–de Vries (KdV–mKdV) equation and the (2+1)-dimensional Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation are obtained. These solutions can be classified as solitary and periodic wave solutions. Some of the obtained solutions are graphically sketched.

Abstract:We present a class of exact solutions of the generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation with time- and space-modulated coefficients, which describe the evolution of wavefunction in various types of external potentials including the harmonic and double-well potentials. The results show that there exist a general condition linking these distributed coefficients, under which the exact solutions can be obtained. Moreover, the evolution of such solutions can be effectively controlled by these distributed coefficients. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a general time-discrete framework to design asymptotic-preserving schemes for initial value problem of the Boltzmann kinetic and related equations. Numerically solving these equations are challenging due to the nonlinear stiff collision (source) terms induced by small mean free or relaxation time. We propose to penalize the nonlinear collision term by a BGK-type relaxation term, which can be solved explicitly even if discretized implicitly in time. Moreover, the BGK-type relaxation operator helps to drive the density distribution toward the local Maxwellian, thus naturally imposes an asymptotic-preserving scheme in the Euler limit. The scheme so designed does not need any nonlinear iterative solver or the use of Wild Sum. It is uniformly stable in terms of the (possibly small) Knudsen number, and can capture the macroscopic fluid dynamic (Euler) limit even if the small scale determined by the Knudsen number is not numerically resolved. It is also consistent to the compressible Navier–Stokes equations if the viscosity and heat conductivity are numerically resolved. The method is applicable to many other related problems, such as hyperbolic systems with stiff relaxation, and high order parabolic equations.

Abstract:In this paper an algebraic method is devised to uniformly construct a series of exact solutions for general nonlinear equations. Compared with the existing tanh methods and Jacobi function method, the proposed method gives more general exact solutions without much extra effort. More importantly, the method provides a guideline for the classification of the solutions based on the given parameters. For illustration, we apply the proposed method to revisit a complex coupled KdV system and successfully construct a series of new exact solutions including the soliton solutions and elliptic doubly periodic solutions.
