Abstract:We propose a numerical method for finding solitary wave solutions of generalized Korteweg-de Vries equations by solving the nonlinear eigenvalue problem on an unbounded domain. The artificial boundary conditions are obtained to make the domain finite. We specially discuss the soliton solutions of the K(m,n) equation and KdV–K(m,n) equation. Furthermore for the mixed models of linear and nonlinear dispersion, the collision behaviors of soliton–soliton and soliton–antisoliton are observed.

Abstract:We consider the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation $\partial_t u = -\partial_x(\partial_x^2 u + f(u))$, where $f(u)$ is an odd function of class $C^3$. Under some assumptions on $f$, this equation admits \emph{solitary waves}, that is solutions of the form $u(t, x) = Q_v(x - vt - x_0)$, for $v$ in some range $(0, v_*)$. We study pure two-solitons in the case of the same limit speed, in other words global solutions $u(t)$ such that \begin{equation} \label{eq:abstract} \tag{$\ast$} \lim_{t\to\infty}\|u(t) - (Q_v(\cdot - x_1(t)) \pm Q_v(\cdot - x_2(t)))\|_{H^1} = 0, \qquad \text{with}\quad\lim_{t \to \infty}x_2(t) - x_1(t) = \infty. \end{equation} Existence of such solutions is known for $f(u) = |u|^{p-1}u$ with $p \in \mathbb{Z} \setminus \{5\}$ and $p > 2$. We describe the~dynamical behavior of any solution satisfying \eqref{eq:abstract} under the assumption that $Q_v$ is linearly unstable (which corresponds to $p > 5$ for power nonlinearities). We prove that in this case the sign in \eqref{eq:abstract} is necessarily "$+$", which corresponds to an attractive interaction. We also prove that the~distance $x_2(t) - x_1(t)$ between the solitons equals $\frac{2}{\sqrt v}\log(\kappa t) + o(1)$ for some $\kappa = \kappa(v) > 0$.

Abstract:International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics, Ahead of Print. In this study, we study two generalized stochastic Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equations. The Painlevé property of these nonlinear models is tested using Kruksal's method, which establishes the model's integrability. As a result, using Hirota's bilinear approach and symbolic computation, the N-soliton solutions are constructed. In addition, the extended hyperbolic function method (EHFM), the modified Kudryashov method (MKM), and the sub-equation method (SEM) are used to acquire the bright soliton, dark soliton, singular soliton, periodic, rational, and exponential solutions. To help understand the dynamic features of the derived soliton solutions, we present a number of 2D, 3D, and contour graphs using appropriate parametric values.

Abstract:We consider propagation of solitons along large scale background waves in the generalized Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV) equation theory when the width of the soliton is mach smaller than the characteristic size of the background wave. Due to this difference in scales, the soliton's motion does not affect the dispersionless evolution of the background wave. We obtained the Hamilton equations for soliton's motion and derived simple relationships which express the soliton's velocity in terms of a local value of the background wave. Solitons' paths obtained by integration of these relationships agree very well with the exact numerical solutions of the gKdV equation.

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:Korteweg-de Vries-type equations have occurred in the fields of planetary oceans, atmospheres, cosmic plasmas and so on, while nonlinear evolution equations with the variable coefficients have provided a realistic perspective on the inhomogeneities of media and non-uniformities of boundaries. In this paper, we investigate a (3+1)-dimensional Korteweg-de Vries equation with the time-dependent coefficients in a fluid. Based on the Hirota method, we obtain a bilinear form via the binary Bell polynomial approach. Based on the bilinear form, we derive the N -soliton, breather and periodic-wave solutions, where N is a positive integer. Besides, we investigate the asymptotic behaviors of the breather and periodic-wave solutions. Breather waves and periodic waves are graphically displayed. Finally, relation between the periodic-wave solutions and one-soliton solutions is discussed. This paper provides an intuitive understanding for the nonlinear phenomena of those obtained solutions, and those nonlinear phenomena have potential application value in fluid dynamics and other fields.

Abstract:The current study is important from two perspectives. Firstly, in this article, we suggest a novel analytical technique for creating the exact solutions to nonlinear partial differential equations (NLPDEs). In order to study the dynamical behaviors of various wave phenomena, we can construct the several exact solutions in the form of Jacobi elliptic solutions, hyperbolic solutions, trigonometric solutions, and exponential solutions by using this method. Secondly, we consider a more generalized form of the (2+1)‐dimensional Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) and modified Korteweg‐de Vries (mKdV) equations that plays an important role in describing the shallow water. We successfully extract several soliton solutions for the examined equation. By choosing the appropriate parameters, some graphs of the discovered solutions have been represented in the figures. Every obtained solution has been demonstrated to satisfy the corresponding equation. The findings demonstrate that the method can be applied to solve a number of nonlinear evolution equations. The new solutions and the paper's findings could improve our understanding of how the waves move through shallow water and open up new research avenues.

Abstract:. There has been considerable interest in the study on the variable-coefficient nonlinear evolution equations in recent years, since they can describe the real situations in many fields of physical and engineering sciences. In this paper, a generalized variable-coefficient KdV (GvcKdV) equation with the external-force and perturbed/dissipative terms is investigated, which can describe the various real situations, including large-amplitude internal waves, blood vessels, Bose-Einstein condensates, rods and positons. The Painlevé analysis leads to the explicit constraint on the variable coefficients for such a equation to pass the Painlevé test. An auto-Bäcklund transformation is provided by use of the truncated Painlevé expansion and symbolic computation. Via the given auto-Bäcklund transformation, three families of analytic solutions are obtained, including the solitonic and periodic solutions.

Abstract:In the paper two kinds of solutions are derived for the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation, including blow-up solutions and non-singular solutions. We derive blow-up solutions from known 1-soliton solution and a double-pole solution. There is a complex Miura transformation between the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation and a modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. Using the transformation, solitons, breathers and rational solutions to the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation are obtained from those of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. Dynamics of the obtained solutions are illustrated.

Abstract:The Korteweg-de Vries equation is a fundamental nonlinear equation that describes solitons with constant velocity. On the contrary, here we show that this equation also presents accelerated wavepacket solutions. This behavior is achieved by putting the Korteweg-de Vries equation in terms of the Painlevé I equation. The accelerated waveform solutions are explored numerically showing their accelerated behavior explicitly.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to improving the general Kudryashov method by a new and general auxiliary equation. So, a new method is introduced, which we call 'the general improved Kudryashov method', to produce exact solutions for nonlinear evolution equations arising in mathematical physics. As application examples, exact traveling wave solutions for the combined Korteweg–de Vries and modified Korteweg–de Vries (KdV–mKdV) equation and the (2+1)-dimensional Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation are obtained. These solutions can be classified as solitary and periodic wave solutions. Some of the obtained solutions are graphically sketched.

Abstract:The (2+1)-dimensional generalized fifth-order KdV (2GKdV) equation is revisited via combined physical and mathematical methods. By the Hirota perturbation expansion technique and via setting nonzero background wave on the multiple soliton solution of the 2GKdV equation, breather waves are constructed, for which some transformed wave conditions are considered that yield abundant novel nonlinear waves including the X/Y-Shaped (XS/YS), asymmetric M-Shaped (MS), W-Shaped (WS), Space-Curved (SC) and Oscillation M-Shaped (OMS) solitons etc. Furthermore, distinct nonlinear wave molecules and interactional structures involving the asymmetric MS, WS, XS/YS, SC solitons, and breathers, lumps are constructed after considering the corresponding existence conditions. The dynamical properties of the nonlinear molecular waves and interactional structures are revealed via analyzing the trajectory equations along with the change of the phase shifts.

Abstract:Abstract The analysis of a generalised (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave equation that simulates a variety of nonlinear processes that occur in liquids including gas bubbles will be performed. After some cosmetic adjustments to the underlying equation, this generalised (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave equation naturally degenerates into the (3+1)-dimensional Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation, the (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave equation, and the Korteweg-de Vries equation. To completely investigate this fundamental equation, a clear and rigorous technique is used. In order to obtain innovative symmetry reductions, group invariant solutions, conservation laws, and eventually kink wave solutions, the Lie symmetry, multiplier, and simplest equation methods are used. Complex waves and their dealing dynamics in fluids can be well imitated by the verdicts.

Abstract:The (2+1)-dimensional Korteweg–de Vries-Sawada-Kotera-Ramani (KdVSKR) equation is proposed by extending one dimension of the (1+1)-dimensional KdVSKR equation. The bilinear form of the (2+1)-dimensional KdVSKR equation is obtained by the independent transformation. The multi-solitons are obtained by solving the Hirota bilinear form of the (2+1)-dimensional KdVSKR equation. By using the long wave limit method, the multi-order lumps, interaction between lump and solitons are derived. The paths of lump wave can be given by calculating the critical points of the lump wave. The dynamics of these solutions are shown both in numerical simulations and graphs ways.

Existence of undercompressive travelling waves of a non-local generalised Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation

Abstract:We study travelling wave solutions of a generalised Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation with a non-local diffusion term and a concave-convex flux. This model equation arises in the analysis of a shallow water flow by performing formal asymptotic expansions associated to the triple-deck regularisation (which is an extension of classical boundary layer theory). The resulting non-local operator is a fractional type derivative with order between $1$ and $2$. Travelling wave solutions are typically analysed in relation to shock formation in the full shallow water problem. We show rigorously the existence of travelling waves that, formally, in the limit of vanishing diffusion and dispersion would give rise to non-classical shocks, that is, shocks that violate the Lax entropy condition. The proof is based on arguments that are typical in dynamical systems. The nature of the non-local operator makes this possible, since the resulting travelling wave equation can be seen as a delayed integro-differential equation. Thus, linearisation around critical points, continuity with respect to parameters and a shooting argument, are the main steps that we have proved and adapted for solving this problem.

Exact solitary wave solutions for a coupled gKdV-Schrodinger system by a new ODE reduction method

Abstract:A new method is developed for finding exact solitary wave solutions of a generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation with p-power nonlinearity coupled to a linear Schrödinger equation arising in many different physical applications. This method yields 22 solution families, with p=1,2,3,4. No solutions for p>1 were known previously in the literature. For p=1, four of the solution families contain bright/dark Davydov solitons of the 1st and 2nd kind, obtained in recent work by basic ansatze applied to the ODE system for travelling waves. All of the new solution families have interesting features, including bright/dark peaks with (up to) p symmetric pairs of side peaks in the amplitude and a kink profile for the nonlinear part in the phase. The present method is fully systematic and involves several novel steps which reduce the travelling wave ODE system to a single nonlinear base ODE for which all polynomial solutions are found by symbolic computation. It is applicable more generally to other coupled nonlinear dispersive wave equations as well as to nonlinear ODE systems of generalized Hénon-Heiles form.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters B, Ahead of Print. The (2+1)-dimensional Korteweg–de Vries–Sawada–Kotera–Ramani equation which consists of the KdV equation and the SK equation is the subject of investigation in this study. The studied equation has rich physical meaning in nonlinear waves. The KdV- type equations hold great importance as a prototypical representation of an infinite-dimensional system that is completely integrable and exactly solvable in the context of nonlinearity. The KdV equation is utilized to describe shallow water waves in a density-stratified ocean, which exhibit weak and nonlinear interactions with long internal waves. The Hirota bilinear method has been used with the support of various test functions. For the purpose of analyzing the governing equation, numerous solutions are secured, including breathers and two-wave solutions. Breather waves refer to solitary waves that exhibit both partial localization and periodic structure in either space or time. Breathers serve crucial functions in nonlinear physics and have been observed in various physical domains, including optics, hydrodynamics, and quantized superfluidity. To visually represent the results, a range of graphs with unique shapes are generated in accordance with the specified parameter values. The computational intricacies and outcomes underscore the technique's efficacy, simplicity and transparency, demonstrating its suitability for numerous types of static and dynamic nonlinear equations pertaining to evolutionary phenomena in computational physics, in addition to other research and practical domains. The physical properties of solutions and the collision-related components of various nonlinear physical processes are illustrated with these results.

On the Obtaining Solutions of Nonlinear Differential Equations by Means of the Solutions of Simpler Linear or Nonlinear Differential Equations

Abstract:In this article, we follow an idea that is opposite to the idea of Hopf and Cole: we use transformations in order to transform simpler linear or nonlinear differential equations (with known solutions) to more complicated nonlinear differential equations. In such a way, we can obtain numerous exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations. We apply this methodology to the classical parabolic differential equation (the wave equation), to the classical hyperbolic differential equation (the heat equation), and to the classical elliptic differential equation (Laplace equation). In addition, we use the methodology to obtain exact solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by means of the solutions of linear differential equations and by means of the solutions of the nonlinear differential equations of Bernoulli and Riccati. Finally, we demonstrate the capacity of the methodology to lead to exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations on the basis of known solutions of other nonlinear partial differential equations. As an example of this, we use the Korteweg--de Vries equation and its solutions. Traveling wave solutions of nonlinear differential equations are of special interest in this article. We demonstrate the existence of the following phenomena described by some of the obtained solutions: (i) occurrence of the solitary wave--solitary antiwave from the solution, which is zero at the initial moment (analogy of an occurrence of particle and antiparticle from the vacuum); (ii) splitting of a nonlinear solitary wave into two solitary waves (analogy of splitting of a particle into two particles); (iii) soliton behavior of some of the obtained waves; (iv) existence of solitons which move with the same velocity despite the different shape and amplitude of the solitons.

Abstract:Due to the importance of the nonlinear partial differential equations in applied physics, many mathematicians and physicists are interesting to the nonlinear partial differential equations. One of the main tasks of studying the nonlinear partial differential equations is to obtain the exact solutions for the nonlinear partial differential equations. In this paper, we study the exact solutions of a generalized (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equation. According to the modified hyperbolic function method and the traveling transformation method, the generalized (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equation is changed into an ordinary differential equation. By taking the homogeneous balance between the highest order nonlinear terms and the derivatives of the highest order, we change the differential equation into an algebraic system. By solving the algebraic system, we obtain the solutions for the nonlinear partial differential equation. At last, some solutions and their figures are given by specific parameters. All the solutions conclude the triangle function solutions, the positive hyperbolic function solutions, and the hyperbolic triangle function solutions. These solutions exhibit the dynamics of nonlinear waves and the solutions are useful for the study on interaction behavior of nonlinear waves in shallow water, plasma, nonlinear optics and Bose–Einstein condensates.
