Abstract:In this paper, the controllability of a class of planar piecewise linear systems is investigated. An explicit necessary and sufficient condition for null controllability of such systems is established. Moreover, it is proved that the null controllability can be realized infinite steps.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of exact null controllability of infinite dimensional linear systems in non-reflexive state spaces and reflexive control spaces. The starting point of this paper is the work of A. Vieru (Systems & Control Lett. 54 (2005) 331-337), which obtains the characterization of exact null controllability via bounded control functions in reflexive state spaces and control spaces (see Remark 2.2 of (Systems & Control Lett. 54 (2005) 331-337)). We will show here if the state space X is a general Banach space and U is reflexive, the similar result is also valid for exact null controllability via bounded control functions, which extends the results of (Systems & Control Lett. 54 (2005) 331-337)

Abstract:In this paper,exact controllability and exact null controllability of infinite di- mensional linear systems are considered in non-reflexive state space and reflexive control space.For the systems governed by C-semigroups,the criteria for exact controllability and exact null controllability via controls in LP([O,T],U),1<p≤∞are obtained.For the sys- tems governed by C_0-semigroups,the authors also get a necessary and sufficient condition for exact null controllability via controls in L~P([O,T],U),1<p≤∞.Two applications are given to illustrate the abstract results.

Abstract:In this paper, several different concepts of controllability are investigated for a class of linear singular systems which system parameters are piecewise constant. Necessary and sufficient geometric criteria for C-controllability and R-controllability of such systems are established, respectively. These conditions can be easily transformed into algebraic form. By applying the principle of duality, C-observability is discussed as well. Furthermore, the intrinsic relationship between these results and existing results are also discussed. Then, a novel necessary, and sufficient criterion for C-controllability of linear time-invariant singular systems is derived as a byproduct.

Abstract:This article investigates the controllability for a class of piecewise nonlinear impulsive non‐autonomous systems. The problem is addressed by considering the nonlinearities and impulses as perturbations. First, a standard framework is introduced to transform the issue of controllability to the existence of a fixed point by designing a proper admissible control and constructing a nonlinear operator on a Banach space. Then, two sufficient controllability conditions for such systems are developed by employing Schauder's and Rothe's fixed point theorems when the perturbations satisfy several nonlinear constraints including linear/sublinear growth conditions, bounded constraints, and Lipschitz conditions. It is shown that the controllability of such systems is influenced by the linear parts, the nonlinear perturbations, and the impulsive effects. Finally, the established controllability results are verified through several numerical examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the null controllability of nonlinear wave systems. Firstly, by combing Gerlerkin method and a fixed point theorem, we give the null controllability for semi-linear wave equation with nonlinear function dependents on velocities under the geometric control condition. Secondly, based on a new iterative method, we prove the null controllability for a class of quasi-linear wave system constructively. Finally, we give a control result for a class of fully nonlinear wave system as application.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of exact controllability of linear control systems with compact semigroup in non-reflexive state spaces and control spaces. The weak convergence of bounded sequence of control functions with respect to the subspace of the dual space is studied and a lemma for the weak convergence is proved. Based on the lemma and the strong separation theorem, a necessary and sufficient condition for exact controllability of compact semigroups with respect to the space consisting all essentially bounded measurable functions is obtained. An example of heat equation is presented to illustrate the utility of the result. Some related problems remaining for further study are addressed.

Abstract:This paper studies the controllability and observability of a class of linear piecewise constant impulsive systems. Necessary and sufficient criteria for reachability and controllability are established, respectively. It is proved that the reachability is equivalent to the controllability under some mild conditions. Then, necessary and sufficient criteria for observability and determinability of such systems are established, respectively. It is also proved that the observability is equivalent to the determinability under some mild conditions. Our criteria are of geometric type, they can be transformed into algebraic type conveniently. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the utility of our criteria.

Abstract:Reachability and controllability of positive discrete-time switched linear systems are firstly studied in this paper. First, a theoretic equivalent condition for reachability is addressed. A sufficient condition is also presented, but a counterexample shows that it is not necessary. A verifiable equivalent condition is given for a class of systems. Next, we show that reachability and null controllability is equivalent to complete controllability. A equivalent condition for null controllability is addressed and a verifiable one is given for a class of systems.

Abstract:The focus of this paper is on the null controllability of two kinds of coupled systems including both degenerate and non-degenerate equations with switching control. We first establish the observability inequality for measurable subsets in time for such coupled system, and then by the HUM method to obtain the null controllability. Next, we investigate the null controllability of such coupled system for segmented time intervals. Notably, these results are obtained through spectral inequalities rather than using the method of Carleman estimates. Such coupled systems with switching control, to the best of our knowledge, are among the first to discuss.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to a study of the null controllability problems for one-dimensional linear degenerate wave equations through a boundary controller. First, the well-posedness of linear degenerate wave equations is discussed. Then the null controllability of some degenerate wave equations is established, when a control acts on the non-degenerate boundary. Different from the known controllability results in the case that a control acts on the degenerate boundary, any initial value in state space is controllable in this case. Also, an explicit expression for the controllability time is given. Furthermore, a counterexample on the controllability is given for some other degenerate wave equations.

Abstract:We study the controllability of switched linear systems. First, the concept of controllable state set is introduced as the basic tool for evaluating the controllability. We then prove that, for a switched linear system, there exists a basic switching sequence such that the controllable state set of this basic switching sequence is equal to the controllable state set of the system. Hence, the controllability can be realized by using only one switching sequence. This striking fact reveals some intrinsic properties of switched linear systems, and is the most fundamental starting point for further development. Based on this fact, a necessary and sufficient condition for controllability of switched linear systems is established. Furthermore, these results are extended to switched linear systems with time-delay. A geometric criterion for controllability of switched time-delay systems is established as well. Illustrative examples are provided.

Abstract:This article addresses the approximate and exact controllability issues of switched infinite-dimensional linear systems. First, a controllability map that is related to switching sequence and a controllability Gramian operator are proposed, based on which two necessary and sufficient conditions are established for approximate and exact controllability, respectively. Second, it shows that the obtained conditions can degenerate into the existing controllability criteria of infinite-dimensional linear systems, switched finite-dimensional linear systems, and a single finite-dimensional linear system. Finally, the new results are applied to analyze the approximate controllability of switched linear parabolic systems and the exact controllability of switched linear wave systems. Two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Abstract:In this paper, planar continuous piecewise linear (PCPWL) systems composed of more than two linear subsystems are investigated. Instead of using Lyapunov method, we study the behavior of the PCPWL system directly to give the stability analysis. When there exist eigenvectors for the PCPWL system, the subsystem stability ensures the global stability. If there are no eigenvectors, the one-circle-gain determines the global stability. Besides, we claim that PCPWL system with three stable subsystems is always globally stable if each subsystem has distinct real eigenvalues. Simulation results illustrate the proposed stability tests.
