Abstract:Groove guide is widely recognized as one of the most promising millimeter wave transmission structures. In this paper, the mode-matching method is used to analyse the dispersion characteristics of single and asymmetrical double groove guides, and the unified formulae of Nth-order approximation dispersion equations are presented. Based on this analysis, a general program for calculating the dispersion characteristrics of single and asymmetrical double groove guides has been completed. Some comparisons between the results obtained by present method and published data show that very good agreement has been seen. The effectiveness and the reliability of the given formulae and program are thus verified.

Abstract:Loss and dispersion characteristics of groove guide are two practically important factors in the design for millimeter wave system consisting of groove guide. In this paper, a new method is presented for analyzing loss and dispersion characteristics of the groove guides with arbitrary groove cross-sections. The method is based on the combination of an equivalent active transmission line equation and the staircase approximation. Numerical results of dispersion and attenuation properties for some groove guides with different groove profiles are given. The effectiveness and practicality of the present analysis are confirmed by the data given in the literature.

Abstract:Helical groove of end mill has great influence on its cutting performance. It is normally ground by disk wheels and the groove geometry varies with different wheel geometries. To improve the machining accuracy and reduce the cost of the groove machining process, establishing the groove model with the known wheel geometry and the wheel movement locus before the actual grinding is necessary. In this paper, according to the characteristics of wheel geometry, two different methods are introduced to build the groove model. One is based on the enveloping theory, taking into account the fact that the groove is generated by the enveloping movement of the wheel. Contact lines between the wheel and the groove are firstly deduced. Then, the expressions of the groove and the groove section lines are obtained. This method works well for wheels with straight generatrices. However, if the generatrix consists of quadric curves, a complex transcendental equation needs to be solved to satisfy the enveloping condition. Thus, the other modified graphical method is needed. The wheel is expressed in piecewise. During the grinding process, every part of the wheel will form a family of surfaces. By solving the intersections of these families and the end mill cross-section plane, a point set is obtained. Obviously, the outline of the set is the groove section line. Using this method, the result will be a set of points, but it has no wheel geometry limitation. The calculation procedures of these two methods are programmed with the MATLAB language and have good agreements with the Boolean result.

Abstract:The dispersion and loss characteristics of groove guide with arbitrary shapes are analyzed with high-order finite element method. The effectiveness and the reliablity of the method are verified by the experiments and the results obtained by other methods. Groove guides with various groove shapes, such as rectangular, triangular, parabolic, elliptic and cosine functions, are investigated systematically. The calculating results show that the dispersion of groove guide with different groove shape is almost the same, however, the loss characteristics is rather different; among them, V-shape groove guide has the lowest loss which is about half of the rectangular one. All the curves and the data given in this paper can be used in designing elements and circuits of the groove guide.

The theoretical coupling characteristics of an asymmetrical double groove guide coupler are given to demonstrate how flat coupling can be obtained with this coupler.

Abstract:This paper presents the modelling method of flow control performance directly based on irregular shaped groove parameters in a load control valve. Flow control is the key performance of load control valve because it directly determines the operability of the system. For better proportional flow control ability, the orifices in load control valves are usually designed as irregular shaped grooves, which increase the modelling difficulty of the valve. Geometrical computation of the irregular shaped orifices was firstly conducted. Force balance and circuit calculation of the components and orifices were secondly considered. The model that directly based on the groove parameters of the pilot orifice and the feedback orifice were obtained. Finally, the modelling method was validated by experiment results. The modelling method of load control valve flow control performance can provide guidance for the modelling of other hydraulic valves.

Abstract:Setting up a pair of moving frames on the two pitch circles, the instantaneous contact point being considered the attendant point of the frames, the equation of the trace of the contact points in the frame being ��=��(��), we deduced that the basic rule for the gear profiles is d��/ds=-cos��, where s is the arc length of the pitch circles. Giving a known function of ��=��(��), we obtained the equations of the two conjugate gear profiles and the curvatures and inductive curvature of the profiles. The second order contact phenomenon that a given gear profile can contact with the mating gear at two points simultaneously was discussed by the method of moving frames.

Abstract:A modal model formulation explains many aspects of sound propagation over complex grooved surfaces. Insights that such a formulation offers about the intrinsic resonant properties of rectangular grooved surfaces shall be explored and applied to predict phenomenon such as surface waves and non-specular energy redistribution (blazing). Furthermore, the effects of filling the grooves with a porous material are investigated. A brief summary is made of the modal method and the mechanisms involved with sound propagation over rough surfaces to provide the context before exploring, in detail, how the modal method may be applied to predict various resonant behaviours of rectangularly grooved gratings. As well as their general predictive capabilities, the modal methods also provide significant insight into the wave modes diffracted by grooved surfaces under incident excitation at a low computational cost.

Abstract:In both static and moving applications it is sometimes necessary to mount an O-ring in a face-type groove in such a way that it cannot fall out. This can be done by using a dovetail groove. This feature article analyses an O-ring in a dovetail groove by using the finite element method. The results of this analysis show that compared with rectangular grooves, dovetail grooves contribute to the enhancement of seal performance.

Abstract:It is well known that groove texture with a careful design can be used to enhance the load-carrying capacity of oil film under the conditions of hydrodynamic lubrication. In this study, a general parametric model was developed, and agenetic algorithm-sequential quadratic programming hybrid method was adopted to obtain the global-optimum profile of the groove texture. The optimized profiles at different rotating speeds are all chevrons. The numerical analysis results verified the effect of the optimization. In addition to the numerical optimization, experiments were conducted to validate the superiority of the optimized results.The experimental results show that the optimized groove texture can efficiently reduce the coefficient of friction (COF) and the temperature rise of the specimen. In particular, the optimized groove textures can achieve stable ultra-low COF values (COF < 0.01) under certain conditions.

Abstract:Most of the previous studies on the surface texture were based on pre-determined shapes and distributions, and the global-optimum shapes were uncertain. In this paper, a general parametric model of the groove bottom profile (inner structure, depth profile) of thrust bearings was developed and the GA-SQP hybrid method was adopted to obtain the global -optimum profile of the groove texture bottom. The optimization target was the maximization of the load carrying capacity (LCC) of the oil film. The results verified the superiority of the proposed GA-SQP hybrid method. The mechanism of the optimized bottom profile was investigated using the commercial software FLUENTR.

Abstract:The paper analyzed the uncontrained modals for tailstock block of numerical control lathe named CK78XX.Fi-nite element method is applied to caculating for the modal parameters (inherent frequencis , rigidity, modal shapes), and compared the calculating results to those which came from the experimental modal analysis in order to ensure the validity of the finite element model.The first 12 calculated modals of tailstock block are well agreed with the results from experi-ment. By this comparing, the finite element model is valid enough to provide the foundation for the dynamic response eval-uation , the dynamic modification, and the dynamic optimal design of the tailstock block.

Abstract:In order to optimize the parameters of self-acting gas bearing rectangular groove section, and farther improve the loading capacity of self-acting gas bearing, the finite element and numeric combined optimization method of groove section self-acting effect under compressible condition was presented; Using this method, the parameter optimization of rectangular groove section was finished, and the loading capacity-section parameters 3D-surface was plotted, the optimization results show that when groove width coefficient is 1.68 and groove depth coefficient is 2.34 the gas bearing loading capacity is maximum; the simulation results show that the loading capacity of self-acting gas bearing with optimal parameters given out in this paper increased by 14.8%similar to41.4% than those with the conventional parameters.

Abstract:Abstract A new model is constructed using the weighted average yield criterion (WA criterion) to eliminate the excessive model error in estimating the groove rolling force of a heavy plate. To this end, under the precondition of plane deformation, a two-dimensional strain rate fieldfor describing groove rolling is established in the cylindrical coordinate system. The WA criterion, replacing the Mises yield criterion (Mises criterion), is introduced to calculate the internal deformation power based on the strain rate field. The shear power and friction power are also obtained according to the shear yield condition derived from the criterion. Finally, an analytical rolling force model is established based on the variational principle. The results are compared with those by a model based on the Mises criterion and their corresponding measured ones. The model developed in this paper is proven to be more accurate than the model using the Mises criterion. Through parameter analysis, it is found that the groove rolling force is significantly affected by these parameters, such as the size of the rolled workpiece, reduction, and friction factor. The present research can serve as a scientific foundation for high-precision groove rolling control for the heavy plate.
Optimization Of No-Whirl-Wind Self-Acting Gas Bearing Groove Shape

Abstract:In order to investigate and grasp the exact working mechanism of self-acting gas bearing, and farther improve the loading capacity, a self-acting effect FEM of infinite wide step-shaped plank was presented; The self-acting effect of rectangular groove section was studied and simulated using this method, the simulation result shows that there is a whirlwind at the root of groove, the whirlwind will produce the loss of energy, and decrease the loading capacity. A transitional slant was used at the groove-ridge boundary to eliminate the effect of the whirlwind. The self-acting effects of the transitional slant with different angles or transitional factors were simulated, and loading capacity curve was fitted with 6-order and the maximum was searched, and we come to the optimal self-acting angle and transitional factor; the simulation results show that the loading capacity of self-acting gas bearing with optimal self-acting angle or transitional factor increased by 6.0% than that with the rectangular section.

Abstract:The sliding guide plays a crucial role in CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) machine tools, as its dynamic characteristics can significantly impact the machining quality and reliability. Therefore, this study focuses on the analytical modeling and analysis of the sliding guide system. Firstly, a static model of the sliding guide system is established based on fractal theory. The accuracy of the static model is verified through loading experiments. Utilizing the developed model, the influence of relevant parameters on the bond surface stiffness is analyzed. Subsequently, the concentrated mass method is applied to further develop a nonlinear dynamics model of the system based on the static model. The nonlinear dynamical equation is solved using the Runge–Kutta method. The vibration responses at various excitation frequencies are measured and compared with simulation results, which show good agreement. Lastly, based on the established dynamic model, the study investigates the effects of parameters such as external load, sliding guide material, excitation frequency, tilting surface angle, and slider mass on the dynamic characteristics of the sliding guide system. The main result of this research is to establish the static model of wedge sliding guide based on fractal theory, and further establish the dynamic model of wedge sliding guide on this basis. On the basis of the dynamic model, relevant parameters are discussed, and the effects of different parameters on the dynamic characteristics of the sliding guideway are obtained through the parameter discussion. Based on the results of parametric discussion, the performance of sliding guide can be enhanced by changing the parameters. This study helps to prevent resonance and instability in sliding guide systems. By investigating the analysis and modeling of the sliding guide system, this study aims to enhance the understanding of its dynamic behavior and improve the overall performance of CNC machine tools.

Abstract:One approach using modal analysis and harmonic response to analyze the characteristics of machine tools is proposed in this paper. Dynamic theory and modeling method of MDOF system are introduced. Modal experiment is carried out to obtain modal frequency, damping and shape. Based on these parameters, a virtual dynamic model is established to match the actual one. Meanwhile, simulation and modal analysis have been done using FEA to obtain the accurate dynamic characteristics. Moreover, studies of harmonic response are carried out to get the explicit characteristics of each part in the model. Additionally, there are some suggestions regarding to improvement in the future.
