Abstract:We demonstrated a near all-fiber femtosecond Yb:laser frequency comb incorporated with three different photonic crystal fibers. The comb removes most of free-space components so that it is more compact and stable.

Abstract:We demonstrate an all-fiber Yb:fiber frequency comb with a nonlinear-amplifying-loop-mirror-based Yb:fiber laser oscillator. The fiber-spliced hollow-core photonic bandgap fiber was used as dispersion compensator, which was also directly spliced to a piece of tapered photonic crystal fiber for an octave-spanning spectrum. The spectrum of the compressed 107 fs laser pulses was broadened, covering 600 nm to 1300 nm in a high-nonlinearity tapered fiber for f to 2f beating. The signal-to-noise ratio of offset frequency was measured to be 22 dB.

Abstract:A tapered silica photonic crystal fiber was designed and fabricated to generate more than one octave spanning supercontinuum (from 550 nm to 1400 nm at -30 dB level), by an input pulse of 40 fs 200 pJ directly from an Yb:fiber ring laser. The low pulse energy spectrum broadening are favorable to generate the high contrast f ceo signals with low noise. The f ceo signal with 40 dB signal-to-noise ratio was detected, which helps to build a compact real-world frequency comb.

Abstract:An optical frequency comb based on Yb: ring fiber laser was demonstrated. This is the first time, to our knowledge, f(ceo) has been generated directly from the oscillator without further amplifications above 500 MHz repetition rate. The signal-to-noise ratio of the offset frequency was above 40 dB at 300 kHz resolution bandwidth, which supports easy stabilization. The offset frequency was stabilized for more than 6 h in an open air environment without temperature control. The stabilized repetition rate has an in-loop tracking stability of 4.46 x 10(-13)/tau(1/2). (C) 2014 Optical Society of America

Abstract:We report direct generation of 500MHz Yb:fiber laser frequency comb. The offset frequency was stabilized more than 6 hours in an open air environment. The stabilized repetition rate has an in-loop tracking stability of 4.46×10-13/τ1/2.

Abstract:We developed a polarization maintained Yb:fiber amplifier based on the self-referenced 750-MHz Yb:fiber laser frequency comb. 10 W average power and sub-100 fs pulse were achieved without deteriorating the high coherence of the comb.

Abstract:We demonstrate a stable Yb:fiber frequency comb with supercontinuum generation by using a specially designed tapered single-mode fiber, in which a spectrum spanning from 500 nm to 1500 nm is produced. The carrier-envelope offset signal of the Yb:fiber comb is measured with a signal-to-noise ratio of more than 40 dB and a linewidth narrower than 120 kHz. The repetition rate and carrier-envelope offset signals are simultaneously phase locked to a microwave reference frequency.

Abstract:We demonstrate a compact 29.3 GHz visible astro-comb covering the spectrum from 560nm to 700nm. A 837 MHz Yb:fiber laser frequency comb phase locked to a Rb clock served as the seed comb to ensure the frequency stability and high side mode suppression ratio. After the visible super-continuum generation, a cavity-length-fixed Fabry-Perot cavity made by ultra-low expansion glass was utilized to filter the comb teeth for eliminating the rapid active dithering. The mirrors were home-made complementary chirped mirrors pair with zero dispersion and high reflection to guarantee no mode skipping. These filtered comb teeth were clearly resolved in an astronomical spectrograph of 49,000 resolution, exhibiting sharp linetype, zero noise floor, and uniform exposure amplitude.

Abstract:We demonstrate a 0.95 GHz repetition rate fully stabilized Yb:fiber frequency comb without optical amplification. Benefitted from the high mode power and high coherence, this comb achieved 35 dB to 42 dB signal to noise ratio on the direct heterodyne beat signals with at least 6 continuous wave lasers (at 580nm, 679nm, 698nm, 707nm, 813nm and 922 nm) while keeping >40 dB carrier envelop frequency signal. It can be used for the direct measurement of optical frequencies in visible and near-infrared wavelengths, and has a great potential on simultaneous comparison of multiple optical frequencies.

Abstract:Green-light-enhanced super-continuum generation which covers the range from 500 to 1600 nm with a strong peak at 530 nm in a tapered photonic crystal fibre with pump pulse energy as low as 280 pJ from a mode-locked Yb:fibre laser is reported. By the f-to-2f self-reference technique, a 27 dB fceo signal was detected using the frequency pair at the Yb:laser wavelength (∼1060 nm) and this green light peak. It demonstrates the feasibility and high efficiency of fceo beat detection for simplified Yb:fibre laser frequency combs.

Abstract:We demonstrate 503MHz fundamental high repetition rate operation in a ring cavity passively mode-locked Yb:fiber laser incorporating a novel wavelength-division-multiplexing collimator and a piece of all-solid photonic bandgap fiber. The Yb doped fiber was directly fabricated as one fiber pigtail into the functional collimator, greatly shortening the cavity length and facilitating the splicing operation. A 5cm long photonic bandgap fiber with abnormal dispersion at the lasing wavelength (centered at 1030nm) decreases the net dispersion for shorter output pulses. The spectral bandwidth of the pulse was 34nm. The direct output pulse was measured to be 156fs and the dechirped pulse was about 76fs. With this innovative Yb:fiber pigtailed WDM collimator, the ring cavity laser has the potential to work at a repetition rate up to GHz.

Abstract:Mode-locked Yb-doped fiber lasers around 1 μm are attractive for high power applications and low noise pulse train generation. Mode-locked fiber lasers working in soliton and stretched-pulse regime outperform others in terms of the laser noise characteristics, mechanical stability and easy maintenance. However, conventional optical fibers always show a normal group velocity dispersion around 1 μm, leading to the inconvenience for necessary dispersion management. Here we show that optical microfibers having a large anomalous dispersion around 1 μm can be integrated into mode-locked Yb-doped fiber lasers with ultralow insertion loss down to −0.06 dB, enabling convenient dispersion management of the laser cavity. Besides, optical microfibers could also be adopted to spectrally broaden and to dechirp the ultrashort pulses outside the laser cavity, giving rise to a pulse duration of about 110 fs. We believe that this demonstration may facilitate all-fiber format high-performance ultrashort pulse generation at 1 μm and may find applications in precision measurements, large-scale facility synchronization and evanescent-field-based optical sensing.

Abstract:This study focuses on presenting a fully stabilized, self-referenced Yb:fiber frequency comb respectively phase locked to a microwave standard and an optical reference employing the highest, fundamental repetition rate of 750-MHz without additional external amplifiers and compressors. In addition, the challenge of phase locking the carrier envelop offset frequency for this high-repetition-rate fiber frequency comb is separately investigated in two schemes, namely, f-2f self-referencing and an approach of phase locking a beat note between the Yb: fiber frequency comb and a continuous wave laser.
