Abstract:Recently, there has been great interest in the application of composition laws to problems in enumerative geometry. Using the moduli space of stable maps, we compute the number of irreducible, reduced, nodal, degree-$d$ genus-$2$ plane curves whose normalization has a fixed complex structure and which pass through $3d - 2$ general points in $\Bbb P^2$.

Abstract:In this article, we partially confirm a conjecture, proposed by Cimpoeaş, Keller, Shen, Streib, and Young, on the Stanley depth of squarefree Veronese ideals I n, d . This conjecture suggests that, for positive integers 1 ≤ d ≤ n, . Herzog, Vlădoiu, and Zheng established a connection between the Stanley depths of quotients of monomial ideals and interval partitions of certain associated posets. Based on this connection, Keller, Shen, Streib, and Young recently developed a useful combinatorial tool to analyze the interval partitions of the posets associated with the squarefree Veronese ideals. We modify their ideas and prove the above conjecture for . We also obtain a lower bound of sdepth(I n, d ) for any 1 ≤ d ≤ n. Our results greatly improve Theorem 1.1 in [13], and moreover, our construction leads to a direct proof of this theorem without using graph theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove two recently conjectured supercongruences (modulo $p^3$, where $p$ is any prime greater than $3$) of Zhi-Hong Sun on truncated sums involving the Domb numbers. Our proofs involve a number of ingredients such as congruences involving specialized Bernoulli polynomials, harmonic numbers, binomial coefficients, and hypergeometric summations and transformations.

Abstract:We present a mathematical proof of a conjectural formula due to Aganagic, Dijkgraaf, Klemm, Mariño and Vafa, expressing the topological vertex as a Bogoliubov transform of the fermionic vacuum. In our proof we introduce a boson-fermionic field assignment which generalizes the well-known boson-fermion correspondence. The proof also works for the generalization to the framed topological vertex made by Deng and Zhou. As a consequence, partition functions of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds are related to tau-functions of multi-component KP hierarchy.

Abstract:We announce a proof of Calabi's conjectures on the Ricci curvature of a compact Kähler manifold and then apply it to prove some new results in algebraic geometry and differential geometry. For example, we prove that the only Kähler structure on a complex projective space is the standard one.

Abstract:In this article, we will prove the Generalized Nonvanishing Conjecture holds for threefolds with either $\kappa>0$ or $q>0$. As a result, we can prove the Iitaka conjecture $C_{n,m}$ holds for $n=7$ if the source space has non-negative Kodaira dimension, if the general fibre has positive Kodaira dimension, or if the base space is not threefold with $\kappa=q=0$. In particular, $C^-_{n,m}$ holds if $n\leq 7$.

Castelnuovo bound for curves in projective 3-folds

Abstract:The Castelnuovo bound conjecture, which is proposed by physicists, predicts an effective vanishing result for Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one. Previously, it is only known for a few cases and all the proofs rely on the Bogomolov-Gieseker conjecture of Bayer-Macrì-Toda. In this paper, we prove the Castelnuovo bound conjecture for any Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one, up to a linear term and finitely many degree, without assuming the conjecture of Bayer-Macrì-Toda. Furthermore, we prove an effective vanishing theorem for surface-counting invariants of Calabi-Yau 4-folds of Picard number one. We also apply our techniques to study low-degree curves on some explicit Calabi-Yau 3-folds. Our approach is based on a general iterative method to obtain upper bounds for the genus of one-dimensional closed subschemes in a fixed 3-fold, which is a combination of classical techniques and the wall-crossing of weak stability conditions on derived categories, and works for any projective 3-fold with at worst isolated singularities over any algebraically closed field.

Abstract: In this Part II, D(10.2), of D(10), we take D(10.1) (arXiv:1302.2054 [math.AG]) as the foundation to define the notion of $Z$-semistable morphisms from general Azumaya nodal curves, of genus $\ge 2$, with a fundamental module to a projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold and show that the moduli stack of such $Z$-semistable morphisms of a fixed type is compact. This gives us a counter moduli stack to D-strings as the moduli stack of stable maps in Gromov-Witten theory to the fundamental string. It serves and prepares for us the basis toward a new invariant of Calabi-Yau 3-fold that captures soft-D-string world-sheet instanton numbers in superstring theory. This note is written hand-in-hand with D(10.1) and is to be read side-by-side with ibidem.

Abstract:We present a self-contained proof that the number of diameter pairs among n points in Euclidean 3-space is at most 2n-2. The proof avoids the ball polytopes used in the original proofs by Grunbaum, Heppes and Straszewicz. As a corollary we obtain that any three-dimensional diameter graph can be embedded in the projective plane.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a CM field and $\Pi$ a regular algebraic cuspidal cohomological representation of $\mathbf{G}=\operatorname{PGL}_2/F$. A conjecture of Venkatesh describes the structure of the contribution of $\Pi$ to the homology of the locally symmetric spaces associated to $\mathbf{G}$. We investigate this conjecture in the setting of $p$-adic homology with $p$ a totally split prime. Along the way, we elaborate on the relations between Venkatesh's conjecture and completed homology, the Taylor-Wiles method and the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence. Our main result is a `big $R=T$' theorem in characteristic 0, from which we deduce a variant of the $p$-adic realisation of Venkatesh's conjecture, conditional on various natural conjectures and technical assumptions.

Abstract:We prove the unbounded denominators conjecture in the theory of noncongruence modular forms for finite index subgroups of SL_2(Z). Our result includes also Mason's generalization of the original conjecture to the setting of vector-valued modular forms, thereby supplying a new path to the congruence property in rational conformal field theory. The proof involves a new arithmetic holonomicity bound of a potential-theoretic flavor, together with Nevanlinna's second main theorem, the congruence subgroup property of SL_2(Z[1/p]), and a close description of the Fuchsian uniformization D(0,1)/\Gamma_N of the Riemann surface C \setminus \mu_N.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to provide an expository description of a result of Carrasco Piaggio connecting the Ahlfors regular conformal dimension of a compact uniformly perfect doubling metric space with the combinatorial $p$-moduli of the metric space. We give detailed construction of a metric associated with the $p$-modulus of the space when the $p$-modulus is zero, so that the constructed metric is in the Ahlfors regular conformal gauge of the metric space. To do so, we utilize the tools of hyperbolic filling, developed first by Gromov and by Bourdon and Pajot.

Abstract:We study Thurston's circle packings with obtuse intersection angles on closed surfaces. By using combinatorial Ricci/Calabi flows and variational principle, we extend Thurston's existence theorem for circle packings with non-obtuse intersection angles to those with obtuse intersection angles. As consequences, we generalize the existence and convergence results related to Chow-Luo's combinatorial Ricci flows (J Differ Geom 63(1):97–129, 2018) and Ge's combinatorial Calabi flows (Combinatorial Methods and Geometric Equations, Thesis (Ph.D.), Peking University, Beijing, 2012, Trans Am math Soc 370(2):1377–1391, 2018, Adv Math 333:528–533, 2018).
