The MR inevitably brings in additional noises, such as the current noise in high frequency, which worsen the IM's performance. Here, a novel approach, the magnetic flux negative feedback structure (MFNF), is applied in TEM IM's design. The analysis here shows that the MFNF can not only improve the frequency response but also bring no additional noises. A TEM IM prototype with small size and low noise is also developed. MFNF is used to suppress the resonance and reduce high frequency noise. High permeability ferrite material is used to improve the sensitivity. The resonant frequency of the prototype is 31 kHz. The effective area is 2034m2. The noise level is 2pT/√Hz at 10Hz, 0.7fT/√Hz at 20kHz. The length is 240mm, the diameter 50mm, and the mass 1.8kg. Theoretical analysis and the tests show that: Compared with current commercial air core or magnetic core IMs, this TEM IM has higher bandwidth, lower noise. Moreover its size and weight is greatly reduced to better meet the needs of TEM method.
