Abstract:In this survey, we discuss the description of Vaksman-Soibelman quantum spheres using graph C*-algebras, following the seminal work of Hong and Szymański. We give a slightly different proof of the isomorphism with a graph C*-algebra, borrowing the idea of Mikkelsen and Kaad of using conditional expectations to prove the desired result.

Abstract:We develop the description of non-commutative geometry of the 4-dimensional quantum Hall fluid's theory proposed recently by Zhang and Hu. The non-commutative structure of fuzzy S4, which is the base of the bundle S7 obtained by the second Hopf fibration, i.e., S7/S3=S4, appears naturally in this theory. The fuzzy monopole harmonics, which are the essential elements in the non-commutative algebra of functions on S4, are explicitly constructed and their obeying the matrix algebra is obtained. This matrix algebra is associative. We also propose a fusion scheme of the fuzzy monopole harmonics of the coupling system from those of the subsystems, and determine the fusion rule in such fusion scheme. By products, we provide some essential ingredients of the theory of SO(5) angular momentum. In particular, the explicit expression of the coupling coefficients, in the theory of SO(5) angular momentum, are given. We also discuss some possible applications of our results to the 4-dimensional quantum Hall system and the matrix brane construction in M-theory.

Abstract:We consider the $\theta$-deformed quantum three sphere $S^3_\theta$ and study its Chern--Simons theory from a spectral point of view. We first construct a spectral triple on $S^3_\theta$ as a generalization of the Dirac geometry on $S^3 $. Since the choice of Dirac operator is not unique, we give two more natural spectral triples on $S^3_\theta$ related to the standard round metric. We then compute the Chern--Simons action with respect to the three spectral triples, it turns out that it is not a topological invariant, that is, it depends on the choice of Dirac operators.

Abstract:A representation of general translation-invariant star products in the algebra of M(C) = lim_N\to \infty M_N (C) is introduced which results in the Moyal-Weyl-Wigner quantization. It provides a matrix model for general translation-invariant noncommutative quantum field theories in terms of the noncommutative calculus on differential graded algebras. Upon this machinery a cohomology theory, the so called star-cohomology, with groups H^k_*(C), is worked out which provides a cohomological framework to formulate general translation-invariant noncommutative quantum field theories based on the achievements for the commutative fields, and is comparable to the Seiberg-Witten map for the Moyal case. Employing the Chern-Weil theory via the integral classes of H^k_*(Z) a noncommutative version of the Chern character is defined as an equivariant form which contains topological information about the corresponding translation-invariant noncommutative Yang-Mills theory. Thereby we study the mentioned Yang-Mills theories with three types of actions of the gauge fields on the spinors, the ordinary, the inverse, and the adjoint action, and then some exact solutions for their anomalous behaviors are worked out via employing the homotopic correlation on the integral classes of *-cohomology. Finally, the corresponding consistent anomalies are also derived from this topological Chern character in the *-cohomology.
On the geometry of quantum spheres and hyperboloids

Abstract:We study two classes of quantum spheres and hyperboloids which are $*$-quantum spaces for the quantum orthogonal group $\mathcal{O}(SO_q(3))$. We construct line bundles over the quantum homogeneous space of invariant elements for the quantum subgroup $SO(2)$ of $SO_q(3)$. These are associated to the quantum principal bundle via corepresentations of $SO(2)$ and are given by finitely-generated projective modules $\mathcal{E}_n$ of rank $1$ and even degree $-2n$. The corresponding idempotents, representing classes in K-theory, are explicitly worked out. For $q$ real, we diagonalise the Casimir operator of the Hopf algebra ${\mathcal{U}_{q^{1/2}}(sl_2)}$ dual to $\mathcal{O}(SO_q(3))$.

Abstract:We introduce and study two new examples of noncommutative spheres: the half-liberated sphere, and the free sphere. Together with the usual sphere, these two spheres have the property that the corresponding quantum isometry group is "easy", in the representation theory sense. We present as well some general comments on the axiomatization problem, and on the "untwisted" and "non-easy" case.

Abstract:For $n\in\mathbb{N}$ and $q\in [0,1[$, the Vaksman-Soibelman quantum sphere $S^{2n+1}_q$ is described by an associative algebra $\mathcal{A}(S^{2n+1}_q)$ deforming the algebra of polynomial functions on the 2n+1 dimensional unit sphere. Its C*-enveloping algebra is known to be independent of the deformation parameter q. In contrast to what happens in the C*-algebraic setting, we show here that, for all $q,q'$ in the above range, $\mathcal{A}(S^{2n+1}_q)$ is isomorphic to $\mathcal{A}(S^{2n+1}_{q'})$ only if $q=q'$.

Abstract:This paper gives a complete classification of essentially commutative C*-algebras whose essential spectrum is homeomorphic to S2n-1 by their characteristic numbers. Let A(1), A(2) be such two C*-algebras; then they are C*-isomorphic if and only if they have the same n-th characteristic number. Furthermore, Let gamma (n)(A) = m; then A is C*-isomorphic to C*(M-zn,..., M-zn) if m = 0, A is C*-isomorphic to C*(T-z1,..., Tzn-1, T-zn(m)) if m not equal 0, Some examples are given to show applications of the classification theorem. We finally remark that the proof of the theorem depends on a construction of a complete system of representatives of Ext(S2n-1).

Abstract:We develop a $\mathtt{q}$-analogue of the theory of conjugation equivariant $\mathcal D$-modules on a complex reductive group $G$. In particular, we define quantum Hotta-Kashiwara modules and compute their endomorphism algebras. We use the Schur-Weyl functor of the second author, and develop tools from the corresponding double affine Hecke algebra to study this category in the cases $G=GL_N$ and $SL_N$. Our results also have an interpretation in skein theory (explored further in a sequel paper), namely a computation of the $GL_N$ and $SL_N$-skein algebra of the 2-torus.

Abstract:We construct Narain conformal field theories (CFTs) from quantum subsystem codes, a more comprehensive class of quantum error-correcting codes than quantum stabilizer codes, for qudit systems of prime dimensions. The resulting code CFTs exhibit a global $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry, enabling us to perform the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-gauging to derive their orbifolded and fermionized theories when the symmetry is non-anomalous. We classify a subset of these subsystem code CFTs using weighted oriented graphs and enumerate those with small central charges. Consequently, we identify several bosonic code CFTs self-dual under the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-orbifold, new supersymmetric code CFTs, and a few fermionic code CFTs with spontaneously broken supersymmetry.

Fundamental Parameters and Abundances of Metal-Poor Stars: The SDSS Standard BD +17 4708

Abstract:The atmospheric parameters and iron abundance of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) spectrophotometric standard star BD +17 4708 are critically examined using up-to-date Kurucz model atmospheres, LTE line formation calculations, and reliable atomic data. We find Teff = 6141+-50 K, log g = 3.87+-0.08, and [Fe/H]=-1.74+-0.09. The line-of-sight interstellar reddening, bolometric flux, limb-darkened angular diameter, stellar mass, and the abundances of Mg, Si, and Ca are also obtained. This star is a unique example of a moderately metal-poor star for which the effective temperature can be accurately constrained from the observed spectral energy distribution (corrected for reddening). Such analysis leads to a value that is higher than most spectroscopic results previously reported in the literature (~5950 K). We find that the ionization balance of Fe lines is satisfied only if a low Teff (~5950 K) is adopted. With our preferred Teff (6141 K), the mean iron abundance we obtain from the FeII lines is lower by about 0.15 dex than that from the FeI lines, and therefore, the discrepancy between the mean iron abundance from FeI and FeII lines cannot be explained by overionization by UV photons as the main non-LTE effect. We also comment on non-LTE effects and the importance of inelastic collisions with neutral H atoms in the determination of oxygen abundances in metal-poor stars from the 777 nm OI triplet. Abstract:Non-commutative geometry has significantly contributed to quantum mechanics by providing mathematical tools to extract topological and geometrical information from these systems. This thesis explores the methods used by Jean Bellissard and collaborators for analyzing homogeneous materials. The focus is on two topological algebras that extend Fourier analysis over $\mathbb{T}^d$ to study tight-binding models for homogeneous materials. These algebras, generalizations of $C(\mathbb{T}^d)$ and $C^{\infty}(\mathbb{T}^d)$, are considered anon-commutative smooth manifold, referred to as the Non-Commutative Brillouin Torus. Techniques from Fourier analysis, such as Fourier coefficients and Fejér summation, are adapted to this context, capturing the topological and smooth structure of the non-commutative manifold. The topological structure is represented by a C* algebra, while the smooth structure is captured by a smooth sub-algebra, forming the basis for constructing topological invariants of Hamiltonians through continuous cyclic cohomology. Additionally, the K theory of C* algebras and smooth sub-algebras is a crucial tool for studying topological invariants of Hamiltonians. Smooth sub-algebras share a functional calculus with C* algebras, providing sufficient information to study their K theory. This relationship is vital for identifying topological invariants of Hamiltonians, particularly under conditions like low temperature and electron density, which contribute to the quantization of transversal conductivity in homogeneous materials. This thesis aims to be a valuable resource for newcomers to the field.

Abstract:The purpose of this work is to provide details about the construction of the Chern character for categorical sheaves mentioned in our previous work "Chern character, loop spaces and derived algebraic geometry". For this, we introduce and study the notion of rigid symmetric monoidal \infty-category. We show how trace maps can be constructed in this higher categorical setting, and using a recent work of Hopkins-Lurie we prove the existence of a "cyclic trace", which is the main ingredient in the construction of the Chern character. Our Chern character is then constructed for any pair (T,A), consisting of a \infty-topos T and a stack of rigid symmetric monoidal \infty-categories A on T. We propose two main applications of this construction. First of all, we show how to recover the Chern character of perfect complexes on schemes, with values in cyclic homology, and show how it can be extended to an interesting new Chern character for Artin stacks. Our second application provides invariants of famillies of dg-categories. A consequence of the existence of these invariants is the construction of a Gauss-Manin connexion on the cyclic homology complex of such a familly, generalizing previous constructions by Getzler and of Dolgushev-Tamarkin-Tsygan. Another consequence is the construction of the "character sheaf" associated to a representation of an algebraic group into a dg-category, which is a categorification of the character function of a linear representation. Finally, for a familly of saturated dg-categories we construct a "secondary Chern character", taking values in a new cohomology theory called "secondary cyclic homology".

Abstract:We are concerned with the center (=quantum double) of tensor categories and prove generalizations of several results proven previously for quantum doubles of Hopf algebras. We consider F-linear tensor categories C with simple unit and finitely many isomorphism classes of simple objects. We assume that C is either a *-category (i.e. there is a positive *-operation on the morphisms) or semisimple and spherical over an algebraically closed field F. In the latter case we assume that dim C=sum_i d(X_i)^2 is non-zero, where the summation runs over the isomorphism classes of simple objects. We prove: (i) Z(C) is a semisimple spherical (or *-) category. (ii) Z(C) is weakly monoidally Morita equivalent (in the sense of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math.CT/0111204" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math.CT/0111204">math.CT/0111204</a>) to C X C^op. This implies dim Z(C)=(dim C)^2. (iii) We analyze the simple objects of Z(C) in terms of certain finite dimensional algebras, of which Ocneanu's tube algebra is the smallest. We prove the conjecture of Gelfand and Kazhdan according to which the number of simple objects of Z(C) coincides with the dimension of the state space H_{S^1\times S^1} of the torus in the triangulation TQFT built from C. (iv) We prove that Z(C) is modular and we compute the Gauss sums Delta_+/-(Z(C))=sum_i theta(X_i)^{+/- 1}d(X_i)^2=dim C. (v) Finally, if C is already modular then Z(C)\simeq C X C~, where C~ is the tensor category C with the braiding c~_{X,Y}=c_{Y,X}^{-1}.

Abstract:The purpose of this thesis is to present certain viewpoints on the geometric representation theory of Nakajima cyclic quiver varieties, in relation to the Maulik-Okounkov stable basis. Our main technical tool is the shuffle algebra, which arises as the K-theoretic Hall algebra of the double cyclic quiver. We prove the isomorphism between the shuffle algebra and the quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,t}(sl_n^^), and identify the quotients of Verma modules for the shuffle algebra with the K-theory groups of Nakajima cyclic quiver varieties, which were studied by Nakajima and Varagnolo-Vasserot. The shuffle algebra viewpoint allows us to construct the universal R-matrix of the quantum toroidal algebra U_{q,t}(sl_n^^), and to factor it in terms of pieces that arise from subalgebras isomorphic to quantum affine groups U_{q}(gl_m^), for various m. This factorization generalizes constructions of Khoroshkin-Tolstoy to the toroidal case, and matches the factorization that Maulik-Okounkov produce via the stable basis in the K-theory of Nakajima quiver varieties. We connect the two pictures by computing formulas for the root generators of U_{q,t}(sl_n^^) acting on the stable basis, which provide a wide extension of Murnaghan-Nakayama and Pieri type rules from combinatorics.

Abstract:Using Araki–Yamagami's characterization of quasi-equivalence for quasi-free representations of the CCRs, we provide an abstract criterion for the existence of isomorphisms of second quantization local von Neumann algebras induced by Bogolubov transformations in terms of the respective one particle modular operators. We discuss possible applications to the problem of local normality of vacua of Klein-Gordon fields with different masses.

Abstract:We relate the collective dynamic internal geometric degrees of freedom to the gauge fluctuations in nu = 1/m (m odd) fractional quantum Hall effects. In this way, in the lowest Landau level, a highly nontrivial quantum geometry in two-dimensional guiding center space emerges from these internal geometric modes. Using the Dirac bracket method, we find that this quantum geometric field theory is a topological noncommutative Chern-Simons theory. Topological indices, such as the guiding center angular momentum (also called the shift) and the guiding center spin, which characterize the fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states besides the filling factor, are naturally defined. A noncommutative K-matrix Chern-Simons theory is proposed as a generalization to a large class of Abelian FQH topological orders.
Chern-Dold character in complex cobordisms and theta divisors

Abstract:We show that the smooth theta divisors of general principally polarised abelian varieties can be chosen as irreducible algebraic representatives of the coefficients of the Chern-Dold character in complex cobordisms and describe the action of the Landweber-Novikov operations on them. We introduce a quantisation of the complex cobordism theory with the dual Landweber-Novikov algebra as the deformation parameter space and show that the Chern-Dold character can be interpreted as the composition of quantisation and dequantisation maps. Some smooth real-analytic representatives of the cobordism classes of theta divisors are described in terms of the classical Weierstrass elliptic functions. The link with the Milnor-Hirzebruch problem about possible characteristic numbers of irreducible algebraic varieties is discussed.
