Abstract:Objective: To discuss the clinical outcome of surgical treatment of 32 cases of senile degenerative seoliosis. Methods: Thirty-two old patients with degenerative seoliosis underwent posterior decompression and fusion surgery, and all cases were followed up for one or two years. After surgery, the balance of spinal and the effect of orthotics were evaluated by X-ray, CT and MRI. The pain relief was determined by the visual analogue scale (VAS) system. Results: All cases appeared good in orthotics. The distance from C7 midpoint plumb line to the sacral midpoint changed from ±7.2 cm before operation to ±2.1 cm after operation. The mean Cobb angle correction rate of scoliosis was 52.2%. The mean coronal Cobb angle loss were 3.2° on the lastest follow-up. One week after surgery, the VAS score of low back pain and radicular pain showed that 90.6% cases were improved. Conclusion: On surgical treatment of senile patients with degenerative scoliosis, preoperative evaluation and individualized treatment are important. The surgical treatment of scoliosis could acquire good outcomes after full decompression and restoration of spinal balance and stability.
