Abstract:
Under seismic loading, a cyclic deterioration in strength and stiffness of high-strength steel beam-column can be caused by two main damage modes including local buckling and low-cycle fatigue, which can remarkably change the cyclic response and needs to be considered in seismic design for high-strength steel beam-column. Driven by this need, a hysteretic model considering cyclic deterioration is investigated for H-section beam-column made of high-strength steel with a specified yielding strength of 690 MPa (Q690 steel). First, the effects of the key factors including flange and web slenderness, axial load ratio, and lateral load amplitude on the damage evolution are numerically analyzed using the validated finite element model for Q690 steel beam-columns. Second, according to the results of parametric analysis, the deterioration law and damage index are proposed and calibrated considering two damage-driven modes: local buckling and low-cycle fatigue. Finally, incorporating the developed deterioration evolution law together with damage index, a hysteretic model is developed and calibrated for Q690 steel beam-columns with cyclic deterioration. The proposed hysteresis model with cyclic deterioration is further validated against the test results of Q690 steel beam-columns. It could be concluded that the increase of the axial load ratio, flange and web slenderness and loading amplitude, may result in the increase of cyclic deterioration in high-strength steel beam-column and compared with low-cycle-fatigue-driven mode, local-buckling-driven mode may result in a more significant cyclic deterioration. It also demonstrates that the proposed hysteresis model with cyclic deterioration can reasonably predict the cyclic response of Q690 steel beam-columns.
