Abstract:Notice of Retraction After careful and considered review of the content of this paper by a duly constituted expert committee, this paper has been found to be in violation of IEEE's Publication Principles. We hereby retract the content of this paper. Reasonable effort should be made to remove all past references to this paper. The presenting author of this paper has the option to appeal this decision by contacting TPII@ieee.org. The effectiveness of rhamnolipid biosurfactant on the desorption of phenanthrene in marine sediment was compared with that of synthetic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS). The critical micelle concentrations (CMC) of rhamnolipid and SDS in sediment suspension was 111.6 and 1421.1 mg/L, respectively. Both rhamnolipid and SDS at high dosages (above CMC) greatly enhanced desorption of sediment-sorbed phenanthrene, whereas rhamnolipids was more efficient than SDS in desorption enhancement. The results suggest that rhamnolipid may be more effective than SDS in PAH-contaminated sediment remediation processes.
