Abstract:We demonstrated triwavelength operation in a diode pumped ceramic Nd:Y 1.8La 0.2O 3 laser. Output power of 546 mW was achieved under an absorbed pump power of 6.2 W, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 10.9%. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:A high efficiency and high power laser diode (LD) face-pumped quasi-continuous-wave (QCW) ceramic Nd:YAG zigzag slab laser is demonstrated. The shape of the LD pump beam is optimized to ensure that the pump size is well matched with the ceramic slab and to improve the uniformity of the intensity distribution along the length and width direction of the ceramic slab. Meanwhile, an efficient cooling technique is adopted to obtain the uniform temperature distribution inside the ceramic slab. Under the LD pump power of 9.98kW, a maximum average output power of 4.35kW at 1064nm is demonstrated at a pulse repetition frequency of 400Hz, corresponding to an optical to optical conversion efficiency of 43.6%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest output power as well as the highest conversion efficiency reported for face-pumped QCW ceramic Nd:YAG single slab laser.

Abstract:Transition spectra in the 4F3/2-4I13/2 transition band of Nd:YVO4 crystal are too weak to form laser oscillation for the small stimulated emission cross section and strong parasitical oscillation, except for the 1342 nm wavelength. By adjusting the loss of the resonant cavity, 1386 nm continuous wave output from fiber coupled laser diode end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser is achieved, which reaches 305 mW with pump power of 4.24 W, and the slope efficiency is 13.9% with the highest output power. Continuous wave outputs of 1342 nm and 1386 nm are also observed in the experiment. The stimulated emission cross section of Nd:YVO4 crystal at the wavelength of 1386 nm is calculated as about (3 ± 1) × 10-19 cm2, according to the pumping threshold energy and experimental data.

Abstract:A neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) ceramic laser operating at 1356 nm was first demonstrated experimentally. Multiple wavelength oscillation was observed under the conventional continuous-wave operation, while with the insertion of a Q-switcher that increases the loss for wavelengths longer than 1400 nm, single wavelength oscillation at 1356 nm was achieved both for continuous-wave and Q-switched operations. At the pump power of 11.8 W, a 3.01 W continuous-wave 1356 nm laser with a slope efficiency of 31.9% was obtained. The peak power up to 9.23 kW with a pulse width of 39 ns was achieved at a pulse repetition frequency of 5 kHz.

Abstract:(NdxY0.9-xLa0.1)(2)O-3 (x = 0.005-0.04) transparent ceramics were fabricated by conventional solid-state processing. The radiative spectral properties of the ceramic samples were evaluated by fitting the Judd-Ofelt model with the absorption and emission data. (NdxY0.9-xLa0.1)(2)O-3 ceramics have broad absorption and emission bands with a radiative decay time of 328 mu s. The absorption cross section at 806 nm and stimulated emission cross section at 1078 nm are calculated to be 1.53x10(-20) and 5.22x10(-20) cm(2), respectively. The product of quantum efficiency and the ionic concentration (eta N) exhibited a peak value at 1.5 at% Nd3+ ion concentration, while the lifetime decreases dramatically from 300 mu s (0.5 at% Nd) to 49 mu s (4.0 at% Nd). With 1.0 at% Nd:Y1.8La0.2O3 ceramics acting as a laser medium, continuous-wave output power of 1.03 W was obtained at 1079.5 nm under an absorbed pump power of 7.2 W, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 18.4%.

Abstract:A diode-pumped self-frequency-doubled Nd,Lu:YAl3 (BO3)4 (Nd,Lu:YAB) laser has been operated both continuous wave (cw) and Q-switched. This is a new self-frequency-doubling crystal, which is easier to grow than the related Nd:YAB. Under cw operation, TEM00 mode output powers at the fundamental of 210 mW, or, at the second harmonic wavelength of 531 nm, of up to 24 mW have been obtained, for 880 mW of pump power. When the laser was Q-switched using an acousto-optic modulator, the maximum average power at 531 nm was over 100 mW. The laser operated at pulse repetition rates of up to 70 kHz and delivered pulsewidths in the range of 6–22 ns. These represent the highest visible output power and shortest pulsewidth obtained to date from a diode-pumped Nd:YAB laser.

Abstract:We demonstrate high-efficiency diode-end-pumped multi-wavelength Nd:YAG lasers for continuous-wave and Q-switched operation. For the continuous-wave case, the Nd:YAG laser oscillates at 1.06 and 1.3μm simultaneously; the maximum output power of 2.0W (M2=1.3) and 3.6W (M2=1.8) have been achieved at the incident pump power of 20.3W, with the respective average slope efficiencies of 12.0% and 21.4%, for the lines of 1.06 and 1.3μm, respectively. For the Q-switched operation, we achieve the average output power of 1.3W (M2=2.7) at 1.06μm and 2.0W (M2=3.0) at 1.3μm with the corresponding peak power of 10.2 and 4.2kW under an incident pump power of 20.3W.

Abstract:Dual-wavelength laser is used in many fields,but there are few reports on the continuous wave(CW) lasing of dual-wavelength in a single laser crystal with high power output.Based on the theory of dual-wavelength,the optimal transmissivity of the cavity mirrors and the intracavity diffraction loss are got,in the four cavity mirror two cavities configuration,a dual-wavelength CW diode-side-pumped Nd∶YAG laser that generates simultaneously laser action at the wavelengths of(1064 nm) and(1319 nm) is demonstrated. The relationship between power ratio of the two wavelengths and cavity length is studied and an approach to suppressing the lasing of(1338 nm) is given.The CW dual-wavelength output power reaches as high as(45 W) when the average pump power is more than(500 W.) The output power of respective wavelength exceeds(20 W.) The beam qualities M~2 of(1064 nm) and(1319 nm) are 32 and 39,respectively.The output power instability of each wavelength is less than 5%.

Abstract:The continuous wave and pulsed laser performances of a laser-diode-end-pumped c-cut Nd:Lu0.1Y0.9VO4 crystal have been demonstrated for the first time. The small emission cross section and appropriate upper level lifetime result in the c-cut Nd:Lu0.1Y0.9VO4 crystals having excellent pulsed laser performance. When the pulse repetition rate was 6.4 kHz, the shortest pulse width, the largest pulse energy and the highest peak power were found to be 1.9 ns, 104.7 μJ and 55.1 kW, respectively, using a Cr4+:YAG crystal as the saturable absorber. These results were much better than those for an a-cut Nd:Lu0.1Y0.9VO4 crystal under the same conditions.

Abstract:By use of a laser diode as a pump source, a self-Q-switched laser from a Cr,Nd:YAG crystal is demonstrated. The output Q–switched traces are very stable, the threshold pump power is 3.5 W, the pulse duration is 50 ns, and the slope efficiency is as high as 20%. In addition, the pulse width remains constant while the pulse repetition rate varies with pump power.

Abstract:We demonstrated a linearly polarized continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser operating at a 1357-nm single-wavelength, by a 808-nm diode as an end-pump source. We chose a Brewster-angle-cut Nd:YAG laser host crystal, due to its two salient features as follow: linearly polarized laser output and single-wavelength oscillation can be easily obtained. In this paper, a continuous-wave all-solid-state single-wavelength laser operating at 1357 nm is demonstrated with a diode-end-pumped Brewster-cut Nd:YAG laser. The laser had a 1.03-W maximum output power under an incident pump power of 15.0 W, a 12.7% slope efficiency, a 6.9% optical-to-optical conversion efficiency, a 0.14-nm spectral linewidth and a 3% power-output stability within 30 min.

Abstract:Based on the lasing threshold equation of a diode-end-pumped Nd: YAG laser, the threshold condition of simultaneous dual-wavelength lasing is determined and the relationship between the transmission ratios of the output mirror corresponding to the two wavelengths is calculated. A simultaneous dual-wavelength continuous wave (cw) or quasi-cw diode-end-pumped Nd:YAG laser operating at 1319 nm and 1338 nm has been demonstrated. A total cw output power of 6 W was achieved at a pump power of 21.6 W with a slope efficiency of 30%. And a total quasi-cw output power of 4.75 W was obtained at a pump power of 21.6 W and a pulse repetition rate of 50 kHz, with a slope efficiency of 24.73%, and the corresponding pulse width was 55.05 ns. Inserting a Brewster plate in the cavity and the highest linearly polarized wave output power was boosted up to 2.22 W at a pulse repetition rate of 50 kHz. The instability of the output power was less than 0.52% and the beam quality M-2 factor was as low as 1.16 at the linearly polarized wave output power of 2.17W. The simultaneous. dual-wavelength laser provides an experimental basis for generating highly coherent terahertz wave radiation of 3.23 THz by nonlinear optical difference frequency method.

Abstract:We present a compact and high output power diode end-pumped Nd:YAG laser which operates at the wavelength of 1123 nm. Continuous wave (CW) laser output of 2.6 W was achieved at the incident pump power of 15.9 W, indicating an overall optical-optical conversion efficiency of 16.4%, and the slope efficiency was 18%.

Abstract:A diode pumped intracavity frequency-doubled Nd: YVO4 laser emitting at 671 nm with a type-II noncritical phase-matched LBO crystal is reported. A maximum output power at 671 nm of 404 mW was obtained under an incident pump power of 5.16 W, with an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency up to 7.8%. The output power fluctuates less than 5% while the temperature change of the LBO crystal is maintained at ± 0.5 °C at the phase-matched temperature.

Abstract:We demonstrated a diode-pumped continuous wave and passively Q-switched Nd:Lu(x)Y(1-x)VO4 laser at 1.34 μm with V3+:YAG as the saturable absorber. The crystal Nd:Lu(x)Y(1-x)VO4 with equal ionic ratio (x = 0.5) shows better laser performance. The maximum continuous wave output power of 1.45 W was obtained with the optical efficiency of 20.1% and the slope efficiency of 24.5%. For the pulsed operation, the minimum pulse width achieved was 42 ns with the pulse repetition frequency of 142 kHz, and the single pulse energy and the peak power were estimated to be 6.62 μJ and 157.6 W, respectively.

Abstract:A high power and high efficiency laser head with five dual-line diode arrays for the side-pumped Nd:YAG rod is developed. By mounting two laser heads of this kind and a quartz 90 degrees rotator into a thermally-near-unstable symmetrical fiat-flat resonator, a continuous-wave power output of 1157W at 1064mn is obtained with a beam quality factor M-2 of similar to 39. To the authors' knowledge, this is the highest power output at 1064 nm for the diode-side-pumped two-rod Nd:YAG laser.
