Abstract:Blisk is an important component of aero-engine, and its surface quality can seriously affect their dynamic performance and fatigue life. However, it is difficult to polish the blisk at once, because of deep and narrow space, free-form surfaces, easy deformation and interference, poor reach ability, difficult-to-cut materials, and so on, especially when polishing processes are required to ensure their compliance with strict industrial standards for blisk full-area surface quality. Information on the available polishing processes for blisk is currently scarce. For this aims, two different polishing methods, called six-axis linkage belt polishing and robot wire-wheel polishing, are used in this paper. The experimental results show that the surface quality meets the manufacturing requirements when different methods are used for different areas of the blisk. It is proved that this method could be integrated to enable automated polishing of blisk full-area surfaces. Introduction Advanced aero-engine is a strategic high-tech product related to national military security and economic development. It is a crown pearl of modern industrial and its manufacturing ability becomes the symbol of national comprehensive strength. Moreover, It also can measure comprehensive strength of a country in research and manufacturing[1]. As one of the key parts of aero-engine, blisk also strongly affects the performance of aero-engine. Due to significant stress concentration in the root-fillet of blisk, the blisk is likely to be broken in the high load operation and brings bad influence to the safety and longevity of aero-engine. Because of the characteristics of the blisk structure with weak rigidity, difficult to cut materials, complex shape, the defects are easily realized, including surface burn, residual stress uneven distribution, and so on, which will seriously affect the blisk profile precision and surface quality and integrity. Therefore, it is very important to study the blisk precision grinding method and its key technologies in order to improve the performance of the engine. Belt grinding for the blisk. Xiao and Huang[2] studied the constant-load adaptive belt polishing of the weak-rigidity blisk blade, and the dimensional precision and consistency of the surface quality is improved. Zhang[3]et al. set up a force-position decoupling pneumatic servo control system to solve force-position coupling problem in blisk polishing. Xiao[4]et al. introduced the new belt grinding method for the consistency of the blisk profile and surface precision, results show that the surface roughness is less than 0.25 μm, the profile accuracy is less than 0.05 mm and the consistency is significantly improved. Robot grinding for the blisk. The robot grinding for the blisk is used with belt or other polishing tools by the companies, ACME, Huck, and so on[5]. Xu and Shi[6] studied the cutter path generation and interference detection applied in robot polishing based on blisk structure and analysis of blisk modeling method. From the above analysis, the methods of belt polishing and wire-wheel polishing both have their own advantages; both methods would be able to perform surface polishing of titanium alloy materials, and the overall surface roughness would also be improved. Therefore, if these methods could be integrated, by combining the six-axis linkage with automated robot technology, the blisk full-area surface would be polished using a single machine.
