Abstract:PurposeThe purpose of this paper lies in the combination of fuzzy set and interval grey set, namely, considering the fuzzy set theory, rough set theory and grey system theory. The paper then presents a unified form (or symbol system) which can be more useful to describe a wide variety of theories.Design/methodology/approachConsidering the lower bounds and upper bounds of interval grey set are classical set, this paper draws lessons from the classical set to fuzzy set transition mode which was advanced by Professor Zadeh. The paper puts forward the concept of interval fuzzy set, and then relaxes the constraints of the lower bound of interval fuzzy set to make it more widely used in actual uncertain problems.FindingsFor the examples which have been given in the paper, interval fuzzy set and its three theorems are proved practical and flexible.Practical implicationsThe theorems proved in the paper can be used as a useful extension to the classical fuzzy set, which can also be applied to fuzzy clustering, fuzzy classification, fuzzy pattern recognition and so on.Originality/valueThe paper puts forward the concept of interval fuzzy set and the three theorems of interval fuzzy set and proves their practicability and flexibility. The theorems can be used for further study on interval fuzzy set.

Abstract:Considering that the construction method of Existing generalized intuitionistic fuzzy index does not make use of the generalized intuitionistic fuzzy complement operator.Firstly,this paper proposes a kind of new generalized intuitionistic fuzzy index by means of generalized intuitionistic fuzzy complement operator.Secondly,the properties of generalized intuitionistic fuzzy index is strictly proved to be correct.Finally,it is applied in image thresholding segmentation,meanwhile the choosing method of parameters in image thresholding criteria based on generalized intuitionistic fuzzy index is presented.Experimental results show that the proposed construction method of generalized intuitionistic fuzzy index is effective,and the new image thresholding segmentation method based on generalized intuitionistic fuzzy index can obtain more satisfactory segmentation quality than that of traditional intuitionistic fuzzy entropy for uneven illumination gray images.

Abstract:In this paper,firstly,a concept of membership interval distribution function for fuzzy sets is introduced.By some examples on L-R trapezoidal fuzzy numbers,it was demonstrated that the membership interval distribution function has important practical background and is reasonable and useful.Then,the relations among the proposed concept,the membership functions of fuzzy sets and the probability density function are stated.Some comparisons had been made between the interval distribution of membership function and probability distribution function.

Abstract:The soft set theory, proposed by Molodtsov, can be used as a general mathematical tool for dealing with uncertainty. By combining the interval-valued fuzzy set and soft set models, the purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of the interval-valued fuzzy soft set. The complement, "AND" and "OR" operations are defined on the interval-valued fuzzy soft sets. The DeMorgan's, associative and distribution laws of the interval-valued fuzzy soft sets are then proved. Finally, a decision problem is analyzed by the interval-valued fuzzy soft set. Some numerical examples are employed to substantiate the conceptual arguments. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:The paper presents essential connections between fuzzifying convexities, fuzzifying interval operators and fuzzy pre-orders. Firstly, we study the relationship between fuzzifying convex structures and fuzzifying interval operators on a universal set. Secondly, we show that there exists a connection between based-point fuzzy orders and geometric fuzzifying interval operators on fuzzy partially ordered sets. Finally, we establish a connection between fuzzifying convexities and fuzzy pre-orders.

Abstract:Interval-valued information systems are general models of single-valued information systems. Interval-values appear to a way to describe the uncertainty that affects the observed objects. However, there are relatively few studies on incomplete interval-valued data. The aim of this paper is to present a dominance-based fuzzy rough set approach to incomplete interval-valued information systems. A fuzzy dominance relation which aims to describe the degree of dominance in terms of pairs of objects is proposed. Based on the proposed relation, we extend the definitions of fuzzy approximation operators and investigate the uncertainty measurement issue. A new form of fuzzy conditional entropy to measure attribute importance is presented. Meanwhile, a corresponding heuristic attribute reduction algorithm is constructed for incomplete interval-valued decision systems. Experiments show that the presented fuzzy conditional entropy and the proposed algorithm are effective.

Abstract:Much attention has been drawn to the concepts of intuitionistic fuzzy number and its applications in fuzzy multi-attribute decision making problems, some of the scholars also extend the intuitionistic fuzzy number to generalized intuitionistic fuzzy number. However, very little research has been completed on the extension of traditional interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. Therefore, in this paper, the definitions of generalized interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy number are proposed, based on the concepts and properties of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers and interval-valued fuzzy numbers. In order to help solve the fuzzy multi-attribute decision making problems, the arithmetic rules on the set of generalized interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers are further introduced, and the closeness of the operators in the domain of definition is proven. Then three ranking principles are proposed so as to implement the aforementioned arithmetical methods into the numerical example of workstation assessment, which demonstrates the validity of the proposed approach.

Abstract:In this manuscript we demonstrate interval-valued bipolar complex fuzzy set (IVBCFS) and then interval-valued bipolar complex fuzzy soft set (IVBCFSS), as a generalization of fuzzy set, interval-valued fuzzy set, bipolar fuzzy set, complex fuzzy set and soft set. We also initiate operational laws and basic results and properties for IVBCFS and IVBCFSS. Further explanation is given for the basic algebraic operations like complement, extended union, extended intersection, restricted union, and restricted intersection, AND product and OR product for IVBCFSS. Moreover, we demonstrate some fundamental aggregation operators like IVBCFS average aggregation, IVBCFS geometric and as well as their properties. To emphasize the usefulness and application of the system, we also develop the decision-making method and joint instances of the IVBCFSS (set-ups 1 and 2). In order to describe the effectiveness and influence of the approaching novel work, this study uses a comparative analysis of the new creating concept with prevailing ideas.

Abstract:It is reasonable that the interval number is utilized to describe the characteristic of things,and the fuzzy theory has its unique superiority in research and solution fuzziness question aspect.According to the classical fuzzy theory and the achievement obtained in interval number,this paper introduces the interval number into subordinate functions and establishes a trapezoid subordinate function.As a fuzzy system,the connotation and extension of the road net integration level are blurry.The fuzzy system theory is utilized to assess the road net evaluation in light of the revisability and comparability of road nets.Then,an empirical study is given to prove the effectiveness and reasonableness of the presented model.

Abstract:The design of type-2 fuzzy rule-based classification systems from labeled data is considered in this study. With the aid of interval type-2 fuzzy sets, which can effectively capture uncertainties in the data, a compact and interpretable interval type-2 fuzzy rule base with fewer rules is constructed. Corresponding type-2 fuzzy reasoning method for classification is also presented. The validity of this classification system is shown through experimental results on several data sets.

Abstract:This article mainly focuses on simplifying the structure of interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy system and studying its approximation properties. First of all, we construct the interval type-2 vague partitions (IT2-VPs) on input universe by overlap functions and vague partition of each attribute, and their properties are characterized. On the basis of these, we give the model of IT2 fuzzy system based on IT2-VPs, which mainly consists of the fuzzy rule base and center-of-sets type-reduction (TR). Next, we investigate its universal approximation property and approximation accuracy by error remainder term and auxiliary function method in numerical analysis. Finally, two comparative experiments indicate that the approximation performance of the proposed IT2 fuzzy systems can achieve better than the typical type-1 (T1) and IT2 fuzzy systems.

Abstract:Interval intuitionistic uncertain linguistic sets are an important generalization of fuzzy sets, which well cope with the experts’ qualitative preferences as well as reflect the interval membership and non-membership degrees of the uncertain linguistic term. This paper first points out the issues of the operational laws on interval intuitionistic uncertain linguistic numbers in the literature, and then defines some alternative ones. To consider the relationship between interval intuitionistic uncertain linguistic sets, the expectation and accuracy functions are defined. To study the application of interval intuitionistic uncertain linguistic sets, two symmetrical interval intuitionistic uncertain linguistic hybrid aggregation operators are defined. Meanwhile, models for the optimal weight vectors are established, by which the optimal weighting vector can be obtained. As a series of development, an approach to multi-attribute decision making under interval intuitionistic uncertain linguistic environment is developed, and the associated example is provided to demonstrate the effectivity and practicality of the procedure.

Abstract:This paper proposes a general study of (I,T)-interval-valued fuzzy rough sets on two universes of discourse integrating the rough set theory with the interval-valued fuzzy set theory by constructive and axiomatic approaches. Some primary properties of interval-valued fuzzy logical operators and the construction approaches of interval-valued fuzzy T-similarity relations are first introduced. Determined by an interval-valued fuzzy triangular norm and an interval-valued fuzzy implicator, a pair of lower and upper generalized interval-valued fuzzy rough approximation operators with respect to an arbitrary interval-valued fuzzy relation on two universes of discourse is then defined. Properties of I-lower and T-upper interval-valued fuzzy rough approximation operators are examined based on the properties of interval-valued fuzzy logical operators discussed above. Connections between interval-valued fuzzy relations and interval-valued fuzzy rough approximation operators are also established. Finally, an operator-oriented characterization of interval-valued fuzzy rough sets is proposed, that is, interval-valued fuzzy rough approximation operators are characterized by axioms. Different axiom sets of I-lower and T-upper interval-valued fuzzy set-theoretic operators guarantee the existence of different types of interval-valued fuzzy relations which produce the same operators.

Abstract:The interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set proposed by Atanassov is the extension of intuitionistic fuzzy set. It extends the membership degree and non-membership to interval values instead of a single value. So it contains more possible values and maybe more considerate. Among all the researches, the exploration on the calculus of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy set is entirely new. Recently, Zhao et al. (Int J Comput Intell Syst 9:36–56, 2016 ) proposed the concept of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy function (IVIFF) and gave a calculation method of derivative and differential of IVIFF. Based on this work, in this paper, firstly, we utilize a new and easier method to express the derivative and differential of IVIFF. Secondly, we propose the chain rules of derivative and the form invariance of differential in the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy environment. In addition, some properties of the substation rules for interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy indefinite integrals and definite integrals are also developed.
