Abstract:To further study the Hermitian and non‐Hermitian splitting methods for a non‐Hermitian and positive‐definite matrix, we introduce a so‐called lopsided Hermitian and skew‐Hermitian splitting and then establish a class of lopsided Hermitian/skew‐Hermitian (LHSS) methods to solve the non‐Hermitian and positive‐definite systems of linear equations. These methods include a two‐step LHSS iteration and its inexact version, the inexact Hermitian/skew‐Hermitian (ILHSS) iteration, which employs some Krylov subspace methods as its inner process. We theoretically prove that the LHSS method converges to the unique solution of the linear system for a loose restriction on the parameter α. Moreover, the contraction factor of the LHSS iteration is derived. The presented numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of both LHSS and ILHSS iterations. Abstract:In this paper, a lopsided modified Euler-extrapolated Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (LME-HS) iteration method is introduced for solving the complex symmetric linear systems. Under a loose restriction on parameter theta, we demonstrate that LME-HS iteration method is convergent. Moreover, we present the optimal parameter theta* of the LME-HS method and discuss the spectral properties of corresponding preconditioned matrix. Finally, the numerical experiments are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:We consider the numerical solution of a class of non-Hermitian positive-definite linear systems by the modified Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (MHSS) iteration method. We show that the MHSS iteration method converges unconditionally even when the real and the imaginary parts of the coefficient matrix are nonsymmetric and positive semidefinite and, at least, one of them is positive definite. At each step the MHSS iteration method requires to solve two linear sub-systems with real nonsymmetric positive definite coefficient matrices. We propose to use inner iteration methods to compute approximate solutions of these linear sub-systems. We illustrate the performance of the MHSS method and its inexact variant by two numerical examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a preconditioned Euler-extrapolated single-step Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (PE-SHSS) iteration method for solving a class of complex symmetric system of linear equations. The convergence properties of the PE-SHSS iteration method are investigated under suitable restrictions. In addition, the spectral properties of the corresponding preconditioned matrix are discussed. Finally, three numerical examples are also used to verify the effectiveness of the PE-SHSS iteration method.

Abstract:The Modified Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (MHSS) iteration method was presented and studied by Bai, Benzi and Chen (Computing, 87(2010), 93-111) for solving a class of complex symmetric linear systems.In this paper, using the properties of Toeplitz matrix, we propose a class of structured MHSS iteration methods for solving the complex Toeplitz linear system.Theoretical analysis shows that the structured MHSS iteration method is unconditionally convergent to the exact solution.When the MHSS iteration method is used directly to complex symmetric Toeplitz linear systems, the computational costs can be considerately reduced by use of Toeplitz structure.Finally, numerical experiments show that the structured MHSS iteration method and the structured MHSS preconditioner are efficient for solving the complex Toeplitz linear system.

Abstract:Two iteration methods are proposed to solve real nonsymmetric positive definite Toeplitz systems of linear equations. These methods are based on Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (HSS) and accelerated Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (AHSS). By constructing an orthogonal matrix and using a similarity transformation, the real Toeplitz linear system is transformed into a generalized saddle point problem. Then the structured HSS and the structured AHSS iteration methods are established by applying the HSS and the AHSS iteration methods to the generalized saddle point problem. We discuss efficient implementations and demonstrate that the structured HSS and the structured AHSS iteration methods have better behavior than the HSS iteration method in terms of both computational complexity and convergence speed. Moreover, the structured AHSS iteration method outperforms the HSS and the structured HSS iteration methods. The structured AHSS iteration method also converges unconditionally to the unique solution of the Toeplitz linear system. In addition, an upper bound for the contraction factor of the structured AHSS iteration method is derived. Numerical experiments are used to illustrate the effectiveness of the structured AHSS iteration method.

Abstract:The TTS iterative method is proposed to solve non-Hermitian positive definite linear systems and some convergence conditions are presented. Subsequently, these convergence conditions are applied to the ALUS method proposed by Xiang et al. in 2012 and comparison of some convergence theorems is made. Furthermore, an example is given to demonstrate the results obtained in this paper.

Abstract:In this paper, an efficient splitting iteration method for solving Toeplitz-plus-Hankel linear systems is presented based on the circulant and skew-circulant splitting of the coefficient matrix. We analyze the computational complexity and convergence properties of the new splitting iteration method. Moreover, good estimations of the optimal parameter are discussed for further accelerating. Numerical results are given to illustrate the performance of the new splitting iteration method.

Abstract:In this paper, we further study the CUSS splitting method for non-Hermitian positive definite linear problems, which is introduced by Benzi [A generalization of the Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting iteration, SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl., 31 (2009), pp. 360-374]. A modified generalization of the Hermitian and skew-Hermitian method (MGHSS) is given, and it still can be used as an effective preconditioner for saddle point systems. We will show the effectiveness of our preconditioner.

Abstract:A variant of preconditioned modified Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (PMHSS) iteration method is proposed for a class of Toeplitz-like complex linear equations arising from the space fractional coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. Theoretical analysis show that the new method is convergent unconditionally. Moreover, the choice of the theoretical optimal parameter is further studied in detail, which minimize the upper bound of the spectral radius and relate to the extreme eigenvalues of the Toeplitz matrix and the extreme absolute values of the diagonal matrix. In addition, the splitting can be used as a preconditioner for Krylov subspaces method. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method is efficient, and the optimal parameter is independent of the mesh size which is very useful in large sparse practical problem.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a nonlinear regularized Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (NRHSS) iteration method for a class of nonlinear saddle-point systems. The NRHSS iteration method can be seen as a generalization of the Peaceman-Rachford splitting method with monotone plus skew-symmetric splitting (PRSM/MSS). Besides, if the nonlinear operator reduces to the linear case, the NRHSS iteration method reduces to the regularized Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (RHSS) iteration method. Hence, the NRHSS iteration method can also be seen as a generalization of the RHSS iteration method. To overcome the heavy workload when direct solution methods are used, we also propose an inexact version of the NRHSS iteration method. Detailed theoretical analysis regarding the convergence properties is given. Numerical experiments on image deblurring problems are carried out to illustrate the feasibility and efficiency of the NRHSS iteration method.

Abstract:A shift splitting concept is introduced and, correspondingly, a shift-splitting iteration scheme and a shift-splitting preconditioner are presented, for solving the large sparse system of linear equations of which the coefficient matrix is an ill-conditioned non-Hermitian positive definite matrix. The convergence property of the shift-splitting iteration method and the eigenvalue distribution of the shift-splitting preconditioned matrix are discussed in depth, and the best possible choice of the shift is investigated in detail. Numerical computations show that the shift-splitting preconditioner can induce accurate, robust and effective preconditioned Krylov subspace iteration methods for solving the large sparse non-Hermitian positive definite systems of linear equations.

Abstract:For solving a class of block two-by-two real linear system, a new single-step iteration method based on triangular splitting scheme is proposed in this paper. Then the convergence properties of this method are carefully investigated. In addition, we determine its optimal iteration parameters and give the corresponding optimal convergence factor. It is worth mentioning that the SSTS iteration method is robust and superior to SBTS and PSBTS iteration methods under suitable conditions. Finally, some numerical experiments are carried out to validate the theoretical results and evaluate this new method.

Abstract:SummaryThe Chebyshev accelerated preconditioned modified Hermitian and skew‐Hermitian splitting (CAPMHSS) iteration method is presented for solving the linear systems of equations, which have two‐by‐two block coefficient matrices. We derive an iteration error bound to show that the new method is convergent as long as the eigenvalue bounds are not underestimated. Even when the spectral information is lacking, the CAPMHSS iteration method could be considered as an exponentially converging iterative scheme for certain choices of the method parameters. In this case, the convergence rate is independent of the parameters. Besides, the linear subsystems in each iteration can be solved inexactly, which leads to the inexact CAPMHSS iteration method. The iteration error bound of the inexact method is derived also. We discuss in detail the implementation of CAPMHSS for solving two models arising from the Galerkin finite‐element discretizations of distributed control problems and complex symmetric linear systems. The numerical results show the robustness and the efficiency of the new methods.
