Abstract:For the non-Hermitian and positive semidefinite systems of linear equations, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for guaranteeing the unconditional convergence of the preconditioned Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting iteration methods. We then apply these results to block tridiagonal linear systems in order to obtain convergence conditions for the corresponding block variants of the preconditioned Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting iteration methods. Abstract:To solve non-Hermitian linear system Ax=b on parallel and vector machines, some paralell multisplitting methods are considered. In this work, in particular: i) We establish the convergence results of the paralell multisplitting methods, together with its relaxed version, some of which can be regarded as generalizations of analogous results for the Hermitian positive definite case; ii) We extend the positive-definite and skew-Hermitian splitting (PSS) method methods in [{\em SIAM J. Sci. Comput.}, 26:844--863, 2005] to the parallel PSS methods and propose the corresponding convergence results.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss semiconvergence of the matrix splitting methods for solving singular linear systems. The concepts that a splitting of a matrix is regular or nonnegative are generalized and we introduce the terminologies that a splitting is quasi-regular or quasi-nonnegative. The equivalent conditions for the semiconvergence are proved. Comparison theorem on convergence factors for two different quasi-nonnegative splittings is presented. As an application, the semiconvergence of the power method for solving the Markov chain is derived. The monotone convergence of the quasi-nonnegative splittings is proved. That is, for some initial guess, the iterative sequence generated by the iterative method introduced by a quasi-nonnegative splitting converges towards a solution of the system from below or from above.

Abstract:For the positive semidefinite system of linear equations of a block two-by-two structure, by making use of the Hermitian/skew-Hermitian splitting iteration technique we establish a class of preconditioned Hermitian/skew-Hermitian splitting iteration methods. Theoretical analysis shows that the new method converges unconditionally to the unique solution of the linear system. Moreover, the optimal choice of the involved iteration parameter and the corresponding asymptotic convergence rate are computed exactly. Numerical examples further confirm the correctness of the theory and the effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:In this paper, first we present a characterization of semiconvergence for nonnegative splittings of a singular Z-matrix, which generalizes the corresponding result of [1]. Second, a characterization of convergence for L 1 -regular splittings of a singular Z-matrix is given, which improve the result of [3]. Third, convergence of weak nonnegative splittings and regular splittings is discussed, and we obtain some necessary and sufficient conditions such that the splittings of a Z-matrix converge.

Abstract:We study theoretical properties of two inexact Hermitian/skew-Hermitian splitting (IHSS) iteration methods for the large sparse non-Hermitian positive definite system of linear equations. In the inner iteration processes, we employ the conjugate gradient (CG) method to solve the linear systems associated with the Hermitian part, and the Lanczos or conjugate gradient for normal equations (CGNE) method to solve the linear systems associated with the skew-Hermitian part, respectively, resulting in IHSS(CG, Lanczos) and IHSS(CG, CGNE) iteration methods, correspondingly. Theoretical analyses show that both IHSS(CG, Lanczos) and IHSS(CG, CGNE) converge unconditionally to the exact solution of the non-Hermitian positive definite linear system. Abstract:We study efficient iterative methods for the large sparse non-Hermitian positive definite system of linear equations based on the Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting of the coefficient matrix. These methods include a Hermitian/skew-Hermitian splitting (HSS) iteration and its inexact variant, the inexact Hermitian/skew-Hermitian splitting (IHSS) iteration, which employs some Krylov subspace methods as its inner iteration processes at each step of the outer HSS iteration. Theoretical analyses show that the HSS method converges unconditionally to the unique solution of the system of linear equations. Moreover, we derive an upper bound of the contraction factor of the HSS iteration which is dependent solely on the spectrum of the Hermitian part and is independent of the eigenvectors of the matrices involved. Abstract:The alternating iterative method is one of the feasible and efficient choices for getting the numerical solution of the linear system Ax=b. In this paper, the alternating iterative methods are studied. The convergence theory for the alternating iterative method is presented when the coefficient matrix A∈Cn×n of the linear system is a Hermitian positive definite matrix. Furthermore, the corresponding comparison theorem on its asymptotic convergence rate is given, which describes the influences of the splitting matrices on its asymptotic convergence rate.
