Abstract:The self-assembly of nonionic surfactants Tween 80 and PEG 6000 in aqueous solution leads to the formation of hollow nanoscale niosomes. Calcium phosphate nanoparticales can be formed using the vesicles as templates. The calcium phosphate spheres were characterised by TEM, SEM, XRD and FTIR. The results indicated that the calcium phosphate particles were hollow and amorphous with the size in the range of 100-150 nm. This system had a good biocompatibility and could be used as drug carriers. In this work, we also used bovine serum albumin as model protein to study the drug content of the nanoparticles and the controlled release behaviour in vitro, and we found that the hollow calcium phosphate system had a higher drug content and release rate compared to traditionary hydroxyapatite particles.
