Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:A method for the synthesis of vinyl sulfides using the simple CuI/L-proline as a catalyst system is reported. The best yields were obtained in the 95% ethanol with 10mol% CuI, 20mol% L-proline, and 1.2 equiv of K2CO3. The amino acids act as base and excellent promoter for the copper-catalyzed coupling reactions, and this protocol tolerates both aromatic and heterocyclic thiols and avoids using other expensive additives.

Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:Various sulfenylated heteroarenes were synthesized by a copper‐mediated C−H thiolation, which was assisted by a 2‐(pyridin‐2‐yl)isopropylamine (PIP‐amine) directing group. The reaction features a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, ligand‐ and metal‐oxidant‐free conditions, exceptional compatibility with aliphatic disulfides, and excellent yields, providing a highly efficient approach to the biologically important sulfenylated heteroarenes.

Abstract:In this paper, aryldiazo sulfones are prepared from tandem sulfonylation/dehydrogenation reactions of arylhydrazines and sulfonyl chlorides. The transformations proceed well in the presence of catalytic CuSO4 center dot 5H(2)O, leading to aryldiazo sulfones in good to excellent yields. It is believed that this protocol represents a safe and convenient model for the synthesis of these versatile aryldiazo sulfones under mild conditions.

Abstract:A versatile strategy for the one-pot synthesis of primary biaryl-based sulfonamides has been developed via a tandem process consisting of palladium-catalyzed CH arylation and subsequent copper-catalyzed oxidative CN bond cleavage of aryl sulfonamino acids. Both electron-withdrawing and electron-donating functionalities can be introduced into the ortho positions of arenes bearing a variety of substituents. The amio acid moiety not only acts as a directing group but also as an ammonia synthetic equivalent. Importantly, the directing group was smoothly removed in the presence of catalytic CuI by using air as a sole oxidant.

Abstract:Green methods for the synthesis of S-aryl phosphorothioates have been developed based on copper-catalyzed multicomponent reactions involving diaryliodonium/arenediazonium salts, elemental sulfur, and R2P(O)H compounds. Most target products are obtained with these two methods in good to high yields at room temperature. These transformations allow the direct formation P-S and C-S bonds in one reaction.

Abstract:An odourless and efficient protocol for the synthesis of benzyl phenyl sulfides was reported. Starting from environmentally friendly phenyldithiocarbamates and commercially available benzyl halides as starting materials, the target compounds (benzyl phenyl sulfides) could be obtained smoothly and easily by using copper salt as catalyst and Cs2CO3 as base. This method features ligand/additive free, the use of readily available starting materials, inexpensive catalysts, and good substrate suitability, illustrating its potential synthetic value for the convenient preparation of some biologically active molecules.

Abstract:Diaryl sulfides play an important role in the synthesis of natural products, pharmaceutically and biologically molecules. The metal catalysts are powerful tools for C–S bonds formation. Despite the utility of palladium-catalyzed carbon–sulfur bond formation, copper complexes are fascinating catalysts for this transformation because copper is less toxic and inexpensive than palladium. In recent times, a large number of protocols using various copper catalysts to perform cross-coupling reactions leading to the synthesis of diaryl sulfides have been described. In this review, we summarized recent developments in the area of synthesis of diaryl sulfides based on using copper catalysts. Both the considerable advantages and drawbacks of these protocols are discussed.

Abstract:A facile copper(II)-catalyzed regio- and stereocontrolled synthesis of vinyl sulfones from terminal alkynes and arylsulfonyl hydrazides is described. Depending on the source of copper(II), two different kinds of vinyl sulfones, (E)-vinyl sulfones and (Z)-beta-chlorovinyl sulfones were obtained and the addition of cyclohexanone played an important role in the reaction. These reactions display excellent chemoselectivity as well as stereoselectivity.
