Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:The cross-coupling reaction of unsaturated carbons is one of the most important methods in organic synthesis. It has been widely used in the manufactures of dyes, pharmaceuticals, polymers, and many other fine chemicals. Due to their low price and toxicity, Cu salts have recently emerged as novel catalysts in cross-coupling reactions of unsaturated carbons, whose replacement of toxic and expensive Pd or Ni catalysts will greatly improve the chemical industry in both the economic and environmental aspects. In this review the newest development of the Cu catalysts in cross-coupling reactions was summarized. C-C, C-N, C-O, C-S, as well as C-X coupling reactions were reviewed. The article also provided detail information about the effects of Cu salts, ligands and solvents on the efficiency of the cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract:Three different types of functionalized-CS were prepared and anchored with copper salts for use as the catalyst for the Ullmann C-X coupling reaction. The Schiff-basic chitosan supported copper complex (PCCS@CuI) exhibits the highest catalytic activity. The structure of the catalyst was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, XRD, SEM, EDS and XPS. This catalyst exhibited high applicability for the C-N and C-S coupling reactions, in which good to excellent yields were obtained. Its easy separation, good reusability and stability were notable.

Abstract:The past decades have witnessed the great progress of copper-catalyzed C — H functionalization reactions, which have shown great potential in synthesizing multi-functionalized organic compounds. In the present review, the recent devel-opment of Cu(I)/Cu(II) catalyzed sp, sp 2 and sp 3 C — H bond functionalizations since 2008 is systematically summarized. Be-sides of the reaction conditions and substrate scopes for different C — H functionalizations, the reported mechanistic studies were also summarized and discussed.

Abstract:Diaryl sulfides play an important role in the synthesis of natural products, pharmaceutically and biologically molecules. The metal catalysts are powerful tools for C–S bonds formation. Despite the utility of palladium-catalyzed carbon–sulfur bond formation, copper complexes are fascinating catalysts for this transformation because copper is less toxic and inexpensive than palladium. In recent times, a large number of protocols using various copper catalysts to perform cross-coupling reactions leading to the synthesis of diaryl sulfides have been described. In this review, we summarized recent developments in the area of synthesis of diaryl sulfides based on using copper catalysts. Both the considerable advantages and drawbacks of these protocols are discussed.

Abstract:The construction of C−S bond of (hetero)aryl sulfides by C−H bond activation have brought new opportunities and also with challenges. The described here about these transformations aim to provide a platform for the effective construction of C−S bond, together with a brief discussion with their mechanism, hoping to show the general readership about common reaction patterns and development trends, as well as potential applications. We believe that this article can be of interest for a larger circle of people who are not only in the chemistry of sulfur containing compounds but also in methods of preparation of functionalized heterocyclic compounds. Organic sulfur compounds encompass a vast and diverse variety of species that possess unique biological activity due to the presence of sulfur atoms or sulfur‐containing functional groups. These compounds are widely present in natural products, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, and functional materials. In recent years, numerous sulfur‐containing compounds such as thiols, thioethers, disulfides, thiourea, dimethyl sulfoxide, sulfonates and their derivatives, as well as sulfur‐containing inorganic compounds, have been utilized as coupling agents to synthesize (hetero)aryl sulfides via C−H Functionalization. These novel transformations provide effective methods for constructing C−S bond of (hetero)arenes, while also expanding the scope of (hetero)aryl sulfides with the potential biological activity. Therefore, the synthesis of aryl sulfides through C−H bond functionalization has attracted widespread attention. This review mainly focuses on the construction of (hetero)aryl sulfides via C−H bond functionalization since 2015. We hope this review offers a useful conceptual overview and inspires further advancements in the efficient construction of C−S bonds.

Abstract:The development of mild and general methods for C-S bond formation has received significant attention because the C-S bond is indispensable in many important biological and pharmaceutical compounds. Early examples for the synthesis of C-S bonds are generally limited to the condensation reaction between a metal thiolate and an organic halide. Recent chemical approaches for C-S bond formation, based upon direct C-H bond functionalization and decarboxylative reactions, not only provide new insights into the mechanistic understanding of C-S coupling reactions but also allow the synthesis of sulfur-containing compounds from more effective synthetic routes with high atom economy. This review intends to explore recent advances in C-S bond formation via C-H functionalization and decarboxylation, and the growing opportunities they present to the construction of complex chemical scaffolds for applications encompassing natural product synthesis, synthetic methodology development, and functional materials as well as nanotechnology.

Abstract:A novel and regioselective protocol for CS coupling of naphthylamines via the insertion of sulfur dioxide was developed by employing a heterogeneous copper catalyst, providing desired products in moderate to good yields. This strategy gives a powerful tool for the efficient preparation of sulfur-containing compounds. Control experiments declared that a single-electron transfer mechanism (SET) is responsible for this CS cross coupling reaction.

Abstract:Sonogashira coupling is a reaction of aryl/vinyl halides with terminal alkynes that leads to the synthesis of conjugated enynes. Generally, the presence of copper (Cu) is required as a mediator for this reaction. Long reaction time, high catalyst loading, or expensive ligands are required for it. Recently, homogeneous, heterogeneous, and nanocatalysts have been developed using organosulfur and organoselenium compounds as building blocks. Preformed complexes of metals with organosulfur and organoselenium ligands are used for their homogeneous catalysis. Heterogeneous catalytic systems are also known, which are developed using the Cu, Pd and Ni as metal source. The nanocatalytic systems (synthesized using such ligands) includes copper selenides and organosulfur/selenium stabilized palladium(0) nanospecies. This article aims to cover the developments pertaining to the uncomplicated processes and techniques used so far to generate catalytically relevant organic ligands having sulfur or selenium donor sites, utility of such ligands in the syntheses of homogeneous, heterogeneous, and nanocatalytic systems and critical analysis of their application in catalysis of this coupling reaction. The results of catalysis have been analysed in terms of the effects of S/Se donor, halogen atom of aryl halide, effect of electron withdrawing /electron donating groups or substituents on aromatic ring of haloarenes/substituted phenylacetylenes, as well as position (ortho or para) of substitution. Substrate scope has been discussed for all the forms of catalysis. The supremacy of heterogeneous and nanocatalytic systems indicates the promising future prospects for the creation of effective catalytic systems utilising such ligands that may be specifically designed for this reaction.

Abstract:Over the past few years, transition metal-mediated oxidative cross-coupling reactions have emerged as a versatile method to construct C-C bonds. However, most of the precedents require high-priced precious metal catalysts such as Rh, Pd, and Ru in combination with a stoichiometric amount of metal oxidant including copper and silver salt. Recently, stoichiometric copper or silver salt-mediated oxidative C-H/C-H cross-coupling reactions in the absence of high-priced metal catalyst have shown up prominently. This short review covers the latest progress in the applications of this emerging strategy, highlights their advantages and limitations, and provides a comprehensive overview on existing procedures and employed methodologies. Abstract:Sonogashira coupling involves coupling of vinyl/aryl halides with terminal acetylenes catalyzed by transition metals, especially palladium and copper. This is a well known reaction in organic synthesis and plays a role in sp2-sp C-C bond formations. This cross coupling was used in synthesis of natural products, biologically active molecules, heterocycles, dendrimers, conjugated polymers and organic complexes. This review paper focuses on developments in the palladium and copper catalyzed Sonogashira cross coupling achieved in recent years concerning substrates, different catalyst systems and reaction conditions.

Abstract:In this study, the direct copper-catalyzed C-S coupling reaction of heterocyclic compounds with diphenyl disulfide, without the existence of ligands and alkalis, has been developed. It showed that the yield of target product was 89.9% when the reaction was carried out at 110 degrees C, the reaction time was 12 h, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) was used as solvents, and the molar ratio of heterocyclic compound to biphenyl disulfide was 2 : 1. The structures of the target products were confirmed with H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR. The effects of various conditions on the reaction were investigated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis and its reaction mechanism was discussed.

Abstract:A three distinct copper cluster complexes (A-C) containing Cu-O ligated Schiff-base ligands were synthesized and bonding was investigated by single crystal X-ray crystallographic studies. These complexes effectively catalyze the C-S cross coupling reaction of less reactive aliphatic thiols to synthesize thioether derivatives. This coupling reaction also tolerates well and compatible with aryl thiols. The peculiar C(sp2)-SC(sp3) bond formation could distinctly took place with high efficiency in low catalyst loading of copper cluster complex catalysts. The present report describes an alternative protocol to construct an active copper cluster complex from readily accessible cheap and efficient ligands. These complexes are air stable, practical, ease to handle and execute C-S coupling reactions with good yields.

Abstract:Copper catalysis plays a crucial role in organic synthesis providing a wide spectrum of important transformations over decades. Success in homogeneous copper catalysis has often relied on the appropriate modulation of coordinating ligands, whereas the development of the corresponding heterogeneous variant has relatively gained less attentions. In this review, we aim to deliver a comprehensive summary of a number of seminal heterogenized Cu-catalyzed homogenous catalysis reported over the last decade. The scope of this review is classified by the type of transformations in which the catalyst’s preparation and activity including the relationship between structure and activity are underscored. In this way, this review highlights the potential and synthetic perspectives of heterogeneous copper catalysis in both academic and industry.

Abstract:Copper serves as a highly adaptable catalyst for the activation of C−H bonds in aryls, heteroaryls, and alkenyl groups, facilitating the synthesis of intricate organic compounds. Its pivotal role in industrial processes has spurred innovation in design, contributing to enhanced methodologies and supporting the transition towards more environmentally friendly practices. This review provides a comprehensive overview and evaluation of the studies conducted over the past 15 years into copper catalyzed reactions for C(sp2)−C(sp2) bond formation via C(sp2)−H activation. The investigations encompass a wide array of starting materials and substrates. The range of substrates studied has been broadened to encompass C−H activation of aryls, heteroaryls, and alkenyl groups. Furthermore, in some cases only catalytic amounts of copper salts were required to drive the challenging C−H functionalization, indicating a promising avenue for future research.
