Abstract:A detailed chemical kinetic model for promoted SNCR process by H2, CO and CH4 was developed based on recent studies. The model was validated by available experimental data. The influence of H2, CO and CH4 on SNCR process was investigated by chemical kinetics calculation. The results indicate that H2 is more effective to lower SNCR temperature window than CO and CH4. While the additives concentration is low, CH4 is more effective than CO. But when the molar ratio of additives and initial NO exceeds 3, the effect of CO begins to catch up that of CH4. The promotion mechanisms of them were identified through sensitivity and rate-of-production analysis. The effects of these additives on NO reduction are achieved principally by promoting the production of OH, O and H radicals. Besides the reaction of CH3 radical with NO2 enhances NO reduction at lower temperature when CH4 additive is used.

Abstract:An experimental study of selective non-catalytic reduction(SNCR) process and the oxidation of NH3 with different additives was performed in an electricity-heated tubular flow reactor.The influences of CO,H2 and CH4 additives on SNCR process and the oxidation of NH3,as well as the interaction between NH3 and NO under the condition of coexistence with the additives were investigated.The results indicate the optimal reaction temperature for NO reduction in SNCR process is 925℃.While CO is added the optimal temperature decrease 50℃ roughly,while CH4 or H2 is added the optimal temperature could decrease 100℃ roughly.The oxidation of NH3 does not produce NO under low temperature.As the temperature rises,once NH3 is consumed almost completely,NO is produced from the oxidation of NH3.All the three additives could decrease the minimum temperature under which NH3 could be oxidized and the minimum temperature under which NO is produced due to the oxidation of NH3.NO could enhance the oxidation rate significantly except the test conditions with H2 addition.

Abstract:Experimental and modeling study on the influence of H2 addition on selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) using ammonia solution was carried out in a quartz tube reactor. The experimental results and simulated data both show that when the addition amount of H2 increased: The DeNOx temperature window and the optimal DeNOx temperature both shifted towards a lower temperature, the optimal DeNOx efficiency would be decreased and the width of DeNOx temperature window would be widened firstly and reduced later; the production peak of N2O would be higher, it's production temperature window prolongated towards a lower temperature mainly, and the slip curves of NH3 also shifted to a lower temperature simultaneously; the largest N2 conversion efficiency after deducting N2O would be somewhat lower than the optimal DeNOx efficiency, but the temperature when the largest N2 conversion efficiency reached was higher than the optimal DeNOx temperature. The mechanism analysis through CHEMKIN implied that it was the reaction H2 + OH = H + H2O that firstly led to the changes happened in the course of SNCR, and the increment of hydrogen atom would result in the production of NO2 as an intermedial species, which was disadvantaged to the DeNOx efficiency and the control of N2O emission.

Abstract:The influence of multicomponent additives on NO reduction by selective non-catalytic reduction process has been investigated experimentally in an electricity-heated tube reactor. The multicomponent additives are composed of two species of CO, CH4 and H2, and the molar ratio of their two components varies from 1/3 to 3/1. The results show that all the investigated additives could decrease the optimal temperature for NO reduction effectively, but the contributions of their components are different. The performance of multicomponent additive composed of CO and CH4 depends mainly on CH4 component. The function of CO component is shifting the temperature window for NO reduction to lower temperature slightly and narrowing the temperature window a little. The temperature window with multicomponent additive composed of H2 and CH4 is distinct from that with its each component, so both H2 and CH4 component make important contributions. While the fraction of CO is no more than that of H2 in multicomponent additives composed of them, the performance of multicomponent additives is dominated by H2 component; while the fraction of CO becomes larger, the influence of CO component becomes notable. Qualitatively the modeling results using a detailed chemical kinetic mechanism exhibit the same characteristics of the temperature window shift as observed experimentally. By reaction mechanism analysis, the distinct influences of CO, CH4 or H2 component on the property of multicomponent additive are mainly caused by the different production rates of OH radical in their own oxidation process.

Abstract:CH4 oxidations in CH4 + O-2, NO + CH4 (+O-2) and NO2 + CH4 (+O-2) reaction systems over the catalyst of indium impregnated on HZSM-5 (In/HZSM-5) were studied. The efficacies of O-2, NO and NO2 for CH4 oxidation were evaluated. The dramatically different conversions of CH, in these different reaction systems suggested that NO2 played a key role in CH4 conversion. TPD studies of CH4, O-2, NO and NO2 on HZSM-5 and In/HZSM-5 were also investigated. It was found thar only NOx could absorb on the samples and the chemisorbed amount of NO2 was much larger than that of NO. This illustrated that the absorbed NO2 species were very important in the CH4-SCR process. Our TPD results and IR results from the literatures both indicated that not only the acid sites but also the In sites in the In/HZSM-5 catalyst facilitated the formation of NO2. Moreover, the reaction between NO2 and CH4 took place on the In sites.
Calculation And Analysis Of Influence Of Coal Gas On Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction Of Nitric Oxide By Ammonia

Abstract:Coal gas was added to Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction(SNCR) process to change the temperature window for NO reduction. The effective composition of coal gas is the mixture of H-2, CO and CH4 for SNCR process. Its influence on NO reduction and by-products emission was investigated through chemical kinetics calculation with detailed reaction mechanism. The results indicate that coal gas additive could shift the NO reduction temperature window to lower temperatures as much as 150K, and raise the maximum NO removal efficiency slightly. These effects are enhanced when the fraction of H-2 in coal gas rises, and not affected by the initial NO concentration when the concentration ratio of coal gas additive and the initial NO keeps constant. Coal gas does not elevate NO2 emission, but it elevates N2O emission. Analysis through chemical kinetics mechanism indicates that coal gas affects NO reduction by promoting OH, O and H radicals production, and the critical reaction path is founded out.

Abstract:The main active sites and the catalytic process in selective catalytic reduction of NOx by CH4 (CH4-SCR) on In/BEA catalyst were investigated by density functional theory (DFT) using a periodic model. The [InO]+ and [InOH]2+ moieties were constructed in the channel of periodic BEA zeolite representing the Lewis and Brønsted acid sites. The electronic structures [InO]+ and [InOH]2+ were analyzed, and it was found that the [InO]+ group were the main active sites for CH4 activation and NO/NO2 adsorption in the CH4-SCR process. CH4 molecules could be activated on the O site of the [InO]+ group in In/BEA, which was resulted from the strong interactions between the C-p orbital of the CH4 molecule and the O-p orbital of the [InO]+ group. CH4 activation was the initial step in CH4-SCR on In/BEA catalyst. NO2 molecules were essential in the SCR process, and they could be produced by NO reacting with gaseous O2 or the O atom of the [InO]+ group. The presence of NO2 could facilitate the key intermediate nitromethane (CH3NO2) formation and lower the reaction barrier in the SCR process.
In Situ DRIFTS Studies of NH3-SCR Mechanism over V2O5-CeO2/TiO2-ZrO2 Catalysts for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx

Abstract:TiO2-ZrO2 (Ti-Zr) carrier was prepared by a co-precipitation method and 1 wt. % V2O5 and 0.2 CeO2 (the Mole ratio of Ce to Ti-Zr) was impregnated to obtain the V2O5-CeO2/TiO2-ZrO2 catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx by NH3. The transient activity tests and the in situ DRIFTS (diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy) analyses were employed to explore the NH3-SCR (selective catalytic reduction) mechanism systematically, and by designing various conditions of single or mixing feeding gas and pre-treatment ways, a possible pathway of NOx reduction was proposed. It was found that NH3 exhibited a competitive advantage over NO in its adsorption on the catalyst surface, and could form an active intermediate substance of -NH2. More acid sites and intermediate reaction species (-NH2), at lower temperatures, significantly promoted the SCR activity of the V2O5-0.2CeO2/TiO2-ZrO2 catalyst. The presence of O2 could promote the conversion of NO to NO2, while NO2 was easier to reduce. The co-existence of NH3 and O2 resulted in the NH3 adsorption strength being lower, as compared to tests without O2, since O2 could occupy a part of the active site. Due to CeO2’s excellent oxygen storage-release capacity, NH3 adsorption was weakened, in comparison to the 1 wt. % V2O5-0.2CeO2/TiO2-ZrO2 catalyst. If NOx were to be pre-adsorbed in the catalyst, the formation of nitrate and nitro species would be difficult to desorb, which would greatly hinder the SCR reaction. All the findings concluded that NH3-SCR worked mainly through the Eley-Rideal (E-R) mechanism.

Abstract:Based on experimental and mechanism research the process of promoting selective non-catalytic reduction(SNCR) with methane additive in a drop tube furnace was investigated by computational fluid dynamics(CFD) software Fluent integrated with simplified reaction dynamics model.The results indicate that the reducing agent ammonia hardly reacts with NOx at low temperature(1 073 K) resulting high ammonia slip.However some ammonia is oxidized into NOx at high temperature(1 373 K) leading to low NOx removal efficiency.Trace CH4 can promote SNCR reaction and reduce ammonia slip at lower temperature.Reduction rate of NOx is accelerated with CH4 additive.Part of ammonia is still oxidized into NOx,but the overall NOx removal efficiency is enhanced at higher temperature.Comparison between simulation results and experimental data shows that combination of simplified reaction dynamics and CFD can give an accurate simulation of traditional SNCR and SNCR process with methane additive.

Abstract:The plug flow reactor (PFR) model and the Zwietering model were used respectively to simulate the selective non-catalytic reduction(SNCR) process in an entrained flow reactor (EFR). Comparison of simulation and experimental results shows that the mixing process of central jet flow and annular jet flow can be described by the Zwietering model. Below 900℃, the reaction rate is lower and the SNCR process is mainly controlled by the reaction dynamics and the mixing process has little effect on the SNCR process. Above 950℃, the reaction rate increase. The SNCR process is mainly controlled by the mixing process. With the increasing of the mixing time, above 950℃, the denitration efficiency of SNCR process decreases, and the temperature window of SNCR becomes narrow.

Abstract:The microcalorimetric technique is employed to study the interaction of NO and NO 2 with the In/HZSM 5 catalyst which has been reported to be active for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by CH 4. The amounts of chemisorption and differential heat of NO 2 adsorption on In 2O 3, HZSM 5 and In/HZSM 5 are much larger than those of NO. Furthermore, NO 2 adsorption on In 2O 3 is irreversible. Associating with the results of in situ IR and TPD, and the NO x conversion in NO(NO 2)+CH 4 system over In/HZSM 5 and HZSM 5 catalysts, it is reasonable to propose that in the CH 4 SCR process NO 2 plays a key role, and NO 2 species chemisorbed on the HZSM 5 support can migrate to the In sites to react with CH 4.

Abstract:The reduction of nitric oxide using ammonia combined with methane and pulverized coal additives has been studied in a drop tube furnace reactor. Simulated flue gas with 1000 ppm NO(x) and 3.4% excess oxygen was generated by cylinder gas. Experiments were performed in the temperature range of 700-1200 degrees C to investigate the effects of additives on the DeNO(x) performance. Subsequently, a kinetic mechanism was modified and validated based on experimental results, and a computational kinetic modeling with CHEMKIN was conducted to analyze the secondary pollutants. For both methane and pulverized coal additives, the temperature window is shifted towards lower temperatures. The appropriate reaction temperature is shifted to about 900 and 800 degrees C, respectively with 1000 ppm methane and 0.051 g min(-1) pulverized lignite coal. The addition of methane and pulverized coal widens the temperature window towards lower temperature suggesting a low temperature application of the process. Furthermore, selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) reaction rate is accelerated evidently with additives and the residence time to complete the reaction is shortened distinctly. NO(x) reduction efficiency with 80% is achieved in about 0.3s without additive at 1000 degrees C. However, it is achieved in only about 0.2s with 100 ppm methane as additive, and only 0.07 and 0.05s are needed respectively for the cases of 500 and 1000 ppm methane. The modified kinetic modeling agrees well with the experimental results and reveals additional information about the process. Investigation on the byproducts where NO(2) and N(2)O were analyzed by modeling and the others were investigated by experimental means indicates that emissions would not increase with methane and pulverized coal additions in SNCR process and the efficacious temperature range of SNCR reaction is widened approximately with 100 degrees C.

Abstract:Selective noncatalytic reduction of NO with ammonia (NH3) as a reducing agent and methane (CH4) and propane (C3H8) as gaseous additives was studied using bench- and pilot-scale experimental setups. The performances of the two additives and their injection pathways were investigated and compared. As indicated by the bench-scale experiments, the NO conversion efficiency was significantly enhanced above 700 °C upon addition of CH4 and C3H8. The temperature window for high NOx conversion efficiency was extended downward from 900 to 750 °C and from 900 to 700 °C in the presence of CH4 (α = 0.5) and C3H8 (α = 0.2), respectively. When the additives and NH3 were injected simultaneously at the same location, the de-NO efficiency increased as much as 20% due to the formation of a reducing atmosphere, subsequently accelerating the generation of hydroxyl groups after the addition of additives, which induce the dehydrogenation of NH3 and accelerate the combination of NO with NH2 to generate N2 and H2O.

Abstract:Experimental study on the influences of reaction parameters,such as temperature,ratio of ammonia to nitrogen in the feed(R),and initial NOx volume concentration,etc,on Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction(SNCR) using ammonia solution was carried out in a quartz tube reactor and it's reaction mechanism was analyzed by CHEMKIN soft.The results showed: The optimum DeNOx temperature was about 920 to 950 ℃,N2O emission peak was reached at some temperature lower than the optimum DeNOx temperature and increasing temperature could reduce NH3 slip;the increase of R could improve the DeNOx efficiency,but also with the increase of NH3 slip and N2O emission;the increase of O2 volume concentration improved the DeNOx efficiency in low temperature region but lowered the DeNOx efficiency in high temperature region,and also reduced NH3 slip,increased N2O emission in low temperature region;the DeNOx efficiency was improved and the residence time needed for finishing the SNCR reactions(τf) was shortened as the initial NOx volume concentration rised,and τf was about 0.4 to 0.8 second around the optimum DeNOx temperature.

Abstract:An experimental study of thermal DeNO_x process with different additives was performed in an electricity-heated tubular flow reactor, showing that CO is less effective to lower the optimum temperature than H_2 and CH_4.The maximum NO reduction is lowered with H_2 added, while it is hardly affected by CO or CH_4.The temperature window is widened appreciably with CH_4 added, while it is narrowed slightly by H_2 or CO.The disadvantage of CH_4 is that it causes CO emission due to its incomplete oxidation, and the maximum conversion of CH_4 to CO is more than 50%.In general, the calculation using a detailed chemical kinetic model predicts most of the process features reasonably well.The analysis on reaction mechanism shows that the effects of these additives on NO re-duction are achieved principally by promoting the production of OH radical.
A comprehensive investigation of influences of NO and O2 on N2O-SCR by CH4 over Fe-USY zeolite

Abstract:The catalytic reduction behaviors of N2O by CH4 have been investigated over Fe-USY catalyst by examining the influences of CH4, NO, O2, or their mixtures in detail. The observations show that NO and O2, which inevitably exist in the gases emitted from industrial sources, such as the nitric acid plant, inhibit the selective catalytic reduction of N2O by CH4 (N2O–CH4 SCR) to some degree, shifting the temperature for >90% N2O conversion to over 450°C. The prohibition of O2 can be ascribed to its occupying active sites and oxidizing CH4-derived intermediates. The negative effect of NO is very prominent, inhibiting the N2O conversion by strongly occupying the active sites and gradually moving the reaction pathways from N2O–CH4 SCR to NO-assisted N2O decomposition, where the former is more efficient than the latter for N2O decomposition under the same operation conditions. In addition, the amount of reducing agent CH4 has also influenced the N2O conversion profile.

Abstract:Selective catalytic reduction(SCR) activity for NO_x conversion to N_2 over 7% MoO_3/γ-Al_2O_3(mass fraction) was investigated with Dimethyl-ether (DME) as a reductant.The effects of the reaction temperature,DME/NO ratio as well as the oxygen inlet concentration were studied respectively.The carbon-containing product distributions were presented.NO_x conversion with NO and NO_2 respectively as NO_x source was also investigated.The results show that between the range of 250℃ to 500℃,under atmospheric pressure,when operation temperature increases,NO_x conversion increases at the beginning and then decreases.DME/NO ratio has a little impact on NO conversion.When the oxygen inlet concentration increases,NO_x conversion increases at the beginning and then decreases,and the highest conversion rate of NO is about 53% when the oxygen inlet concentration is 5%.NO_2 is easier for selective reduction than NO with DME as the reductant.The main carbon-containing products are CO and CO_2,while a little CH_3OH and H_2CO have also been detected during the experiment.
