Expression of C-erbB-2 Protein in Different Sliding Techniques of Breast Cancer

Abstract:Objective To study the expression levels of C-erbB-2 protein in different slicing technique of breast cancer.Methods The expression levels of C-erbB-2 protein were respectively detected on liquid-based cytology smears and on traditional smears from fine-needle aspiration cytology specimens of fifty cases of breast cancers,and were compared with those detected on paraffin sections from correspondingly surgical specimens.The expression levels of C-erbB-2 protein were analyzed in order to find whether there was a statistical difference in different production methods or not. Results The tumor cells on the liquid based cytology smears werepresent in diffuse or scattered pattern with clear backgrounds,which were easily observed and judged.But the tumor cells on the traditional smears were in the massive and flaky pattern,and their backgrounds were full of the colors as a result of a large number of red blood cells and sphacelus that interfered observation and judgment.The expression levels of C-erbB-2 protein were 26.0%(13/50) negative,16.0%(8/50) weak positive,28.0%(14/50) moderate positive and 30.0%(15/50) strong positive on liquid-based cytology smears,while their proportion accordingly were 28.0%(14/50),18.0%(9/50),44.0%(22/50) and 10.0%(5/50) on traditional smears.By comparison,the expression levels of C-erbB-2 protein were 30.0%(15/5),18.0%(9/50),24.0%(12/50) and 28.0%(14/50) on the tissue sections.Conclusions Significant consistency of the expression levels of C-erbB-2 protein in different production methods is found.Liquid-based cytology smears which can improve immunocytochemical quality are prior to traditional smears.
