Abstract:Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of transurethral resection surgery for more than 80 years old patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). Methods: The clinical data of 63 patients, who received transurethral operation from Dec. 1999 to Oct. 2009, were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All the operations were successful without serious complications. The average operating time was 53 min and the average weight of resected prostate tissue was 51g. Five patients of them received 300ml blood supply during operation. Three cases with mild TUR syndrome were encountered during operation. 53 cases of the patients were followed up from 1month to 62 months. Compared with that before operation, IPSS score dreased by 17.5 points, QOL decreased by 3.6 points, Qmax increased by 9.2ml/s and residual urine volume decreased by 75.3ml. Conclusion: Transurethral resection surgery was still safe and feasible, less bleeding, fewer complications, good efficiency and rapid recovery for treatment of elderly patients with BPH under better perioperative management.
