Abstract:A general formalism of time evolution and geometric phase for a system with a dynamical semisimple Lie algebra is presented. The formalism is then used to study an alkali atom in a strong time-dependent magnetic field. The non-adiabatic transition probability among the angular momentum states is also calculated. Finally, explicit expressions for the geometric phase and probability in particular case of a rotating magnetic field are given.

Abstract:On the basis of the generalized invariant formulation, the invariant-related unitary transformation method is used to study the evolution of the quantum Dirac field in a time-dependent spatially homogeneous electric field. We solve the functional Schr?dinger equation for the Dirac field and obtain the exact solutions and corresponding total phase. The total phase includes both the dynamical phase and geometric phase (Aharonov-Anandan phase).

Abstract:In this paper, the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory is generalized for the study of systems with non-Hermitian time-dependent Hamiltonians. It is then used to study the nonadiabatic cyclic evolution and the Aharonov-Anandan phase. It is shown that the study of noncyclic evolution can be reduced to the study of cyclic evolution. The two-level dissipative system and the classical time-dependent harmonic oscillator are discussed as illustrative examples.

Abstract:In the presence of mass anisotropy, anisotropic interaction, or in-plane magnetic field, quantum Hall droplets can exhibit shape deformation and an internal geometrical degree of freedom. We characterize the geometry of quantum Hall states by principal component analysis, which is a statistical technique that emphasizes variation in a data set. We first test the method in an integer quantum Hall droplet with dipole-dipole interaction in disk geometry. In the subsequent application to fractional quantum Hall systems with anisotropic Coulomb interaction in torus geometry, we demonstrate that the principal component analysis can quantify the metric degree of freedom and predict the collapse of a nu = 1/3 state. We also calculate the metric response to interaction anisotropy at filling fractions nu = 1/5 and 2/5 and show that the response is roughly the same within the same Jain sequence but can differ at large anisotropy for different sequences.

Abstract:The algebriaic dynamics is applied to investigate the geometric phase of a Heisenberg-chain in a rotating magnetic field.It is a su(2) algebraically symmetric 3-spin12 system with partially anisotropic coupling.The exact analytical solution of the time dependent Schrdinger equation and the geometric phases of this system are obtained in terms of gauge transformation and algebriaic dynamics.The partially anisotropic coupling is then extended to a more general coupling and the adiabatic geometric phases of the extended system are calculated.We find that the coupling strengths have no impact on the adiabatic geometric phases of the system.

Abstract:We derive a formula of the nonadiabatic noncyclic Pancharatnam phase for a quantum spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particle subject to an arbitrary magnetic field. The formula is applied to three specific kinds of magneic fields. (i) For an orientated magnetic field, the Pancharatnam phase is derived exactly. (ii) For a rotating magnetic field, the evolution equation is solved analytically. The Aharonov-Anandan phase is obtained exactly and the Pancharatnam phase is computed numerically. (iii) We propose a kind of topological transition in one-dimensional mesoscopic ring subject to an in-plane magnetic field, and then address the nonadiabatic noncyclic effect on this phenomenon.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the gyrophase of a charged particle in a magnetic field which is uniform in space but changes slowly with time. As the magnetic field evolves slowly with time, the changing of the gyrophase is composed of two parts. The first part is the dynamical phase, which is the time integral of the instantaneous gyrofrequency. The second part, called geometric gyrophase, is more interesting, and it is an example of the geometric phase which has found many important applications in different branches of physics. If the magnetic field returns to the initial value after a loop in the parameter space, then the geometric gyrophase equals the solid angle spanned by the loop in the parameter space. This classical geometric gyrophase is compared with the geometric phase (the Berry phase) of the spin wave function of an electron placed in the same adiabatically changing magnetic field. Even though gyromotion is not the classical counterpart of the quantum spin, the similarities between the geometric phases of the two cases nevertheless reveal the similar geometric nature of the different physics laws governing these two physics phenomena.

Abstract:Objective The algebriaic dynamics is applied to investigate the geometric phase of a Heisenberg-chain,in order to find out how the coulping strengths between spins influence the geometric phase of this system.Method An interacting anisotropic 3-spin 1/2 system,which is driven by a rotating magnetic field,is considered.The system has a su(2) algebraic structure.By an unitary gauge transformation,this nonautonomous system becomes an autonomous system.The Schrodinger equation of the autonomous system is solved.By virtue of the inverse transformation of the original gauge transformation,the exact analytical solution to the time dependent Schrodinger equation is obtained in total spin 1/2 subspace.Resutlt The geometric phases in this subspace are calculated.Conclusion The result shows that(i)Coulping strengths don't influence the geometric phases of this system;(ii) The geometric phases of the system is the same as that of one spin 1/2 system in a rotating magnetic field.

Abstract:The notion of geometric phase has been recently introduced to analyze the quantum phase transitions of many-body systems from the geometrical perspective. In this work, we study the geometric phase of the ground state for an inhomogeneous period-two anisotropic XY model in a transverse field. This model encompasses a group of familiar spin models as its special cases and shows a richer critical behavior. The exact solution is obtained by mapping on a fermionic system through the Jordan-Wigner transformation and constructing the relevant canonical transformation to realize the diagonalization of the Hamiltonian coupled in the $k$-space. The results show that there may exist more than one quantum phase transition point at some parameter regions and these transition points correspond to the divergence or extremum properties of the Berry curvature.

Abstract:A magnetically trapped atom experiences an adiabatic geometric (Berry's) phase due to changing field direction. We investigate theoretically such an Aharonov-Bohm-like geometric phase for atoms adiabatically moving inside a storage ring as demonstrated in several recent experiments. Our result shows that this phase shift is easily observable in a closed-loop interference experiment, and thus the shift has to be accounted for in the proposed inertial sensing applications. The spread in phase shift due to the atom transverse distribution is quantified through numerical simulations.
