Abstract:In our opinion, existing papers in the open literature on making circumferential grooves more effective[1-4] are still somewhat deficient in some respects. We now present our research results on making circumferential grooves still more effective. The first topic is: the rotor under study and the simulation. In topic one, we mention that we select software NUMECA for all computations performed. The second topic is: the effectiveness of the stability extension of the various types of circumferential grooves. In the second topic, there are six figures supporting the preliminary conclusions reached; the most important conclusion is that, provided that the position of each groove is suitably selected, the satisfactory extension of the stable working range can be achieved with a smaller number of grooves and a shallower groove depth. The third topic is: the discussion of groove depth. In the third topic, there are three figures supporting our preliminary conclusions: (1) the optimum depth of the groove varies with the type of compressor and that of the stall; (2) for the subsonic axial-flow compressor, the depth should be designed in accordance with the requirements of compressor stability, efficiency and pressure ratio all considered; (3) last but most importantly, for subsonic axial-flow compressor, in order to increase the stall margin to some extent, some minimum amount of groove depth must be provided.
