Combination rules of D-S evidence theory and conflict problem

Abstract:Recent achievements concerning combination rule of D-S evidence theory were studied in systematic way, and a new combination method based on reliability of evidence was proposed, followed by a discussion on some solutions for absurdities of combination rule. In view of the deficiency of conflict-handling by Dempster's rule as well as the reliability of modification method for primitive evidence model, we determined to distribute conflict and simultaneously modify evidence model to make the both closely combined. As for the conjunctive operation on consistent evidences and distribution proportion of conflict to the propositions combined, the global information such as reliability of each evidence was thoroughly taken into account and effectively employed. Experimental results show that the presented approach, with high convergent speed and reliability, has good adaptability to the evidences in accord or with high conflict, and significantly outperforms other combination methods of a similar kind. The approach proposed can be used in the field of multi-source information fusion, pattern recognition, and decision making under uncertain information.
