Abstract:The HHT (Hilbert-Huang Transform) method was adopted to decompose the synchronized pulse waves from human carotid and wrist arteries into the different mode orders (four orders of modes in the present case). Test objects consist of two groups, healthy people and those patients suffering from coronary artery disease. The two types of synchronized pulse waves obtained from those two groups were decomposed into modes for comparison. This includes a comparison between two sets of available data from before- and after- operation for the patients with coronary artery disease. A method of cross correlation was introduced to acquire a correlation characteristic between the corresponding modes decomposed from the pulse waves of the carotid and wrist arteries respectively. Based on the cross-correlation analysis, it is found that the cycle of the 2nd mode decomposed from both sets of pulse waves in healthy objects corresponds to 1/3 of that of these pulse waves, whereas the cycle of the 3rd mode to its 1/2 and the cycle of the 4th mode to itself. The 1st modes from pulse waves of the healthy group all are of a standard X pattern, but those of such patients that suffer from coronary artery disease turn far away from the regular pattern. After-operation, however, the deviation in pulse waves arising from coronary artery disease diminishes.
