Abstract:In this article, we consider the basic contact process in a static random environment on the half space Z^d× Z^+ where the recovery rates are constants and the infection rates are independent and identically distributed random variables. We show that, for almost every environment, the complete convergence theorem holds. This is a generalization of the known result for the classical contact process in the half space case.

Abstract:We study a two-level contact process. We think of fleas living on a species of animals. The animals are a supercritical contact process in $\mathbb{Z}^d$. The contact process acts as the random environment for the fleas. The fleas do not affect the animals, give birth at rate $\mu$ when they are living on a host animal, and die at rate $\delta$ when they do not have a host animal. The main result is that if the contact process is supercritical and the fleas survive then the complete convergence theorem holds. This is done using a block construction so as a corollary we conclude that the fleas die out at their critical value.

Abstract:We consider a symmetric finite-range contact process on $\mathbb{Z}$ with two types of particles (or infections), which propagate according to the same supercritical rate and die (or heal) at rate $1$. Particles of type $1$ can enter any site in $(-\infty,0]$ that is empty or occupied by a particle of type $2$ and, analogously, particles of type $2$ can enter any site in $[1,\infty)$ that is empty or occupied by a particle of type $1$. Also, almost one particle can occupy each site. We prove that the process beginning with all sites in $(-\infty,0]$ occupied by particles of type 1 and all sites in $[1,\infty)$ occupied by particles of type 2 converges in distribution to an invariant measure different from the nontrivial invariant measure of the classic contact process. In addition, we prove that for any initial configuration the process converges to a convex combination of four invariant measures.

Abstract:This paper develops a theory of conformal density at infinity for groups with contracting elements. We start by introducing a class of convergence boundary encompassing many known hyperbolic-like boundaries, on which a detailed study of conical points and Myrberg points is carried out. The basic theory of conformal density is then established, including the Sullivan shadow lemma and Hopf-Tsuji-Sullivan theorem. This gives a unification of the theory of conformal density on the Gromov and Floyd boundary for (relatively) hyperbolic groups, the visual boundary for rank-1 CAT(0) groups, and Thurston boundary for mapping class groups. Besides that, the conformal density on the horofunction boundary provides a new important example of our general theory. At last, we present applications towards the co-growth problem of divergent groups, measure theoretical results for CAT(0) groups and mapping class groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive rigorously a non-local cross-diffusion system from an interacting stochastic many-particle system in the whole space. The convergence is proved in the sense of probability by introducing an intermediate particle system with a mollified interaction potential, where the mollification is of algebraic scaling. The main idea of the proof is to study the time evolution of a stopped process and obtain a Gronwall type estimate by using Taylor's expansion around the limiting stochastic process.

Abstract:We present a general black box theorem that ensures convergence of a sequence of stationary Markov processes, provided a few assumptions are satisfied. This theorem relies on a control of the resolvents of the sequence of Markov processes, and on a suitable characterization of the resolvents of the limit. One major advantage of this approach is that it circumvents the use of the Boltzmann-Gibbs principle: in particular, we deduce in a rather simple way that the stationary fluctuations of the one-dimensional zero-range process converge to the stochastic heat equation. It also allows to establish results that were probably out of reach of existing methods: using the black box result, we are able to prove that the stationary fluctuations of a discrete model of ordered interfaces, that was considered previously in the statistical physics literature, converge to a system of reflected stochastic PDEs.

Abstract:The contact process is a paradigmatic classical stochastic system displaying critical behavior even in one dimension. It features a nonequilibrium phase transition into an absorbing state that has been widely investigated and shown to belong to the directed percolation universality class. When the same process is considered in a quantum setting, much less is known. So far, mainly semiclassical studies have been conducted and the nature of the transition in low dimensions is still a matter of debate. Also, from a numerical point of view, from which the system may look fairly simple-especially in one dimension-results are lacking. In particular, the presence of the absorbing state poses a substantial challenge, which appears to affect the reliability of algorithms targeting directly the steady state. Here we perform real-time numerical simulations of the open dynamics of the quantum contact process and shed light on the existence and on the nature of an absorbing state phase transition in one dimension. We find evidence for the transition being continuous and provide first estimates for the critical exponents. Beyond the conceptual interest, the simplicity of the quantum contact process makes it an ideal benchmark problem for scrutinizing numerical methods for open quantum nonequilibrium systems.

Abstract:This paper considers sequences of points on the real line which have been randomly translated, and provides conditions under which various notions of convergence to a limiting point process are equivalent. In particular we consider convergence in correlation, convergence in distribution, and convergence of spacings between points. We also prove a simple Tauberian theorem regarding rescaled correlations. The results are applied to zeros of the Riemann zeta-function to show that several ways to state the GUE Hypothesis are equivalent. The proof relies on a moment bound of A. Fujii.

Abstract:In some complex systems, the randomness and uncertainty phenomena may arise simultaneously, which inspires us to develop the uncertain random variable in chance space. Based on the chance theory, we propose the concept of complete convergence and investigate the relations among the existing common types of convergence including convergence almost surely, convergence in measure, convergence in distribution and convergence in mean. All of the relations are illustrated via the corresponding examples or counterexamples. Additionally, we give an equivalent condition and a sufficient condition of convergence completely for uncertain random variables and provide an example to explain the conditions.

In this paper, we consider dependent percolation on the planar lattice Z2. For this model, we not only prove the existence and uniqueness of the infinite cluster but also prove the central limit theorems respectively for the size of biggest cluster and the size of the cluster at the origin in the lattice boxes.

Abstract:We are concerned with the supercritical contact process modified so that first infection occurs at a lower rate, it is known that the process survives with positive probability. Regarding the rightmost infected of the process started from one site infected and conditioned to survive, we specify a sequence of space-time points at which its behaviour regenerates and thus obtain the corresponding strong law and central limit theorem. We also extend complete convergence to this modified case.

Abstract:The paper proves a result on the convergence of discrete conformal maps to the Riemann mappings for Jordan domains. It is a counterpart of Rodin-Sullivan's theorem on convergence of circle packing mappings to the Riemann mapping in the new setting of discrete conformality. The proof follows the same strategy that Rodin-Sullivan used by establishing a rigidity result for regular hexagonal triangulations of the plane and estimating the quasiconformal constants associated to the discrete conformal maps.

Abstract:The maximal inequalities for martingales are one of the classical results in the theory of stochastic processes. Here, we establish the sharp moderate maximal inequalities for one-dimensional diffusion processes, which generalize the maximal inequalities for diffusions. Moreover, we apply our theory to many specific examples, including the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck (OU) process, Brownian motion with drift, reflected Brownian motion with drift, Cox–Ingersoll–Ross process, radial OU process, and Bessel process. The results are further applied to establish the moderate maximal inequalities for some high-dimensional processes, including the complex OU process and general conformal local martingales.

A complete convergence theorem for the q-voter model and other voter model perturbations in two dimensions

Abstract:The q-voter model is a spin-flip system in which the rate of flipping to type i is given by the qth power of the proportion of nearest neighbours in type i for $i=0,1$. If $q=1$ it reduces to the classical voter model. We show that in the critical 2-dimensional case, for $q<1$ and close enough to 1,for any initial state as $t\to\infty$, the system converges weakly to a mixture of all 0's and all 1's, and a unique invariant law which contains infinitely many sites of both types. This follows as a special case of a general theorem which proves a similar "complete convergence theorem" for cancellative, monotone, finite range voter model perturbations on $\mathbb{Z}^2$ providing a certain parameter, $\Theta_3$, is strictly positive. Similar results follow for the affine and geometric voter models and Lotka-Volterra models, all for parameter values close to the giving the voter model. This kind of asymptotic behavior is quite different from that of the 2-dimensional voter model itself, which undergoes clustering, and converges to a mixture of all 0's and all 1's. The above parameter $\Theta_3$ has an explicit expression in terms of asymptotic coalescing probabilities of 2-dimensional random walk, and we give a rather simple sufficient condition for it to be strictly positive. An important step in the proof is to establish weak convergence of the rescaled spin-flip systems to super-Brownian motion with drift $\Theta_3$. In fact, a convergence result is proved under weaker hypotheses which includes all known such results for 2-dimensional voter model perturbations and a number of new ones, including a rescaled limit theorem for the q-voter model where $q\uparrow $1 with the rescaling.

Abstract:We study hydrodynamic limits of the cluster coagulation model; a coagulation model introduced by Norris [$\textit{Comm. Math. Phys.}$, 209(2):407-435 (2000)]. In this process, pairs of particles $x,y$ in a measure space $E$, merge to form a single new particle $z$ according to a transition kernel $K(x, y, \mathrm{d} z)$, in such a manner that a quantity, one may regard as the total mass of the system, is conserved. This model is general enough to incorporate various inhomogeneities in the evolution of clusters, for example, their shape, or their location in space. We derive sufficient criteria for trajectories associated with this process to concentrate among solutions of a generalisation of the $\textit{Flory equation}$, and, in some special cases, by means of a uniqueness result for solutions of this equation, prove a weak law of large numbers. This multi-type Flory equation is associated with $\textit{conserved quantities}$ associated with the process, which may encode different information to conservation of mass (for example, conservation of centre of mass in spatial models). We also apply criteria for gelation in this process to derive sufficient criteria for this equation to exhibit gelling solutions. When this occurs, this multi-type Flory equation encodes, via the associated conserved property, the interaction between the gel and the finite size sol particles.

Abstract:The finite Dirac's contact transformation according to Dirac's physical idea is obtained. It is shown that its generators belong to the smallest evolution closed subalgebra of the first class constraints but do not exhaust all the first class constraints in general. Then the extended Dirac's conjecture is proposed and is applied to Cawley's counter example of Dirac's conjecture successfully.

Abstract:Two BPHZ convergence theorems are proved directly in Euclidean position space, without exponentiating the propagators, making use of the Cluster Convergence Theorem presented previously. The first theorem proves the absolute convergence of arbitrary BPHZ-renormalized Feynman diagrams, when counterterms are allowed for one-line-reducible subdiagrams, as well as for one-line-irreducible subdiagrams. The second theorem proves the conditional convergence of arbitrary BPHZ-renormalized Feynman diagrams, when counterterms are allowed only for one-line-irreducible subdiagrams. Although the convergence in this case is only conditional, there is only one natural way to approach the limit, namely from propagators smoothly regularized at short distances, so that the integrations by parts needed to reach an absolutely convergent integrand can be carried out, without picking up short-distance surface terms. Neither theorem requires translation invariance, but the second theorem assumes a much weaker property, called "translation smoothness". Both theorems allow the propagators in the counterterms to differ, at long distances, from the propagators in the direct terms. For massless theories, this makes it possible to eliminate all the long-distance divergences from the counterterms, without altering the propagators in the direct terms. Massless theories can thus be studied directly, without introducing a regulator mass and taking the limit as it tends to zero, and without infra-red subtractions.
Linear convergence of the Collatz method for computing the Perron eigenpair of primitive dual number matrix

Abstract:Very recently, Qi and Cui extended the Perron-Frobenius theory to dual number matrices with primitive and irreducible nonnegative standard parts and proved that they have Perron eigenpair and Perron-Frobenius eigenpair. The Collatz method was also extended to find Perron eigenpair. Qi and Cui proposed two conjectures. One is the k-order power of a dual number matrix tends to zero if and only if the spectral radius of its standard part less than one, and another is the linear convergence of the Collatz method. In this paper, we confirm these conjectures and provide theoretical proof. The main contribution is to show that the Collatz method R-linearly converges with an explicit rate.

Abstract:We prove a formula, first obtained by Kleban, Simmons and Ziff using conformal field theory methods, for the (renormalized) density of a critical percolation cluster in the upper half-plane "anchored" to a point on the real line. The proof is inspired by the method of images. We also show that more general bulk-boundary connection probabilities have well-defined, scale-covariant scaling limits and prove a formula for the scaling limit of the (renormalized) density of the critical percolation gasket in any domain conformally equivalent to the unit disk.
