Abstract:Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is one of the most important pathogenic microorganisms after renal transplantation. The possible direct effects of CMV infection such as CMV pneumonia, enteritis and hepatitis are well learned. However, the indirect effects caused by CMV infection including graft rejection, secondary infection (bacteria, fungi and secondary virus infection), malignant tumor, posttransplant diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease and decrease of survival rate of receptors and grafts are underestimated. Hemodialysis before operation and immunosuppressant usage after transplantation may increase the risk of CMV infection, add to the possibility of activation of primary infection and latent infection, and lead to a series of adverse effects among the renal receptors. So it is of great importance for the early diagnosis and treatment of CMV infection. For the prevention and treatment of CMV infection, the preemptive therapy and prophylactic treatment are advised.
