Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments
Abstract:Accurate prediction of indoor thermal environments and heating energy consumption is crucial to building energy efficiency. However, plateau areas pose unique challenges with high altitude, low ambient temperatures, pronounced atmospheric transparency and intense solar radiation. Classical thermal modelling methods or handy building simulation software are mainly based on more common and less elevated zones, regardless of these distinct climatic attributes, leading to disparities or errors in load prediction and energy efficiency evaluation. To address this, an improved "white box" dynamic building thermal model is proposed to forecast indoor thermal environment and heating consumption specifically designed for passive solar buildings. This advanced model isolates and analyzes the precise influence of solar radiation while elucidating the fundamental principles governing building thermal processes. Moreover, a prototypical building and experiment system for on-site testing are established, enabling the assessment or real-time thermal responses and temperature variations. Validation results demonstrate that the proposed model shows acceptable accuracy, validated against field-measured data, showcasing robust reliability with coefficients of variation below 30 %. Furthermore, the preliminary results also show that impact factors related to solar radiation, such as window-to-wall ratios, building orientations, and heat transfer coefficients, have more significant influence for heating energy consumption in plateau buildings. This study contributes the theoretical and methodological underpinnings to enhance building thermal design and improve heating energy efficiency improvement in high-altitude plateau areas.
