Abstract:In this paper, the existence of nonoscillatory solutions of the second-order nonlinear neutral differential equations is studied. Some new sufficient conditions are given and four examples are constructed to show that the results here are almost sharp.

Burton–Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem will be sufficiently general for application to the considered equation. An example has been carried out to show our results. It should be pointed out that the problem of periodic solutions is one of the current hot topics in the study of dynamic equations, which contains rich symmetry ideas and methods.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, under some ordered conditions, we investigate the existence of positive ω -periodic solutions for a class of second-order neutral functional differential equations with delayed derivative in nonlinearity of the form ( x ( t ) − cx ( t − δ ))′′ + a ( t ) g ( x ( t )) x ( t ) = λb ( t ) f ( t , x ( t ), x ( t − τ 1 ( t )), x ′( t − τ 2 ( t ))). By utilizing the perturbation method of a positive operator and the fixed point index theory in cones, some sufficient conditions are established for the existence as well as the non-existence of positive ω -periodic solutions.

The main tool employed here is the Krasnoselskii’s fixed point theorem dealing with a sum of two mappings, one is a contraction and the other is completely continuous. The results obtained here generalize the work of Han and Ren (Nonlinear Anal, 70:1393–1406, 2009).

Abstract:In this article, we study the existence and uniqueness of periodic solutions, and stability of the zero solution to the nonlinear neutral system $$ \frac{d}{dt}x(t)=A(t)h\big(x(t-\tau_1(t))\big)+\frac{d}{dt}Q\big(t,x(t-\tau_2(t))\big) +G\big(t,x(t),x(t-\tau_2(t))\big). $$ We use integrating factors to transform the neutral differential equation into an equivalent integral equation. Then we construct appropriate mappings and employ Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem to show the existence of a periodic solution. We also use the contraction mapping principle to show the existence of a unique periodic solution and the asymptotic stability of the zero solution. Our results generalize the corresponding results in the existing literature. The concept “rotating-periodicity” is a kind of symmetry, which is a general version of periodicity, anti-periodicity, harmonic-periodicity, and it is also a special kind of quasi-periodicity. We also include several examples to illustrate the validity and applicability of our results.

Abstract:In this work, we are concerned with existence of solutions for a nonlinear second-order distributional differential equation, which contains measure differential equations and stochastic differential equations as special cases. The proof is based on the Leray--Schauder nonlinear alternative and Kurzweil--Henstock--Stieltjes integrals. Meanwhile, examples are worked out to demonstrate that the main results are sharp.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we describe a method to solve the problem of finding periodic solutions for second-order neutral delay-differential equations with piecewise constant arguments of the form x ′′( t ) + px ′′( t − 1) = qx ([ t ]) + f ( t ), where [⋅] denotes the greatest integer function, p and q are nonzero real or complex constants, and f ( t ) is complex valued periodic function. The method reduces the problem to a system of algebraic equations. We give explicit formula for the solutions of the equation. We also give counter examples to some previous findings concerning uniqueness of solution.

Abstract:The existence of three solutions for nonlinear operator equations is established via index theory for linear self-adjoint operator equations, critical point reduction method, and three critical points theorems obtained by Brezis-Nirenberg, Ricceri, and Averna-Bonanno. Applying the results to second-order Hamiltonian systems satisfying generalized periodic boundary conditions or Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions and elliptic partial differential equations satisfying Dirichlet boundary value conditions, we obtain some new theorems concerning the existence of three solutions.

Abstract:The oscillation and asymptotic behavior of solutions of a general class of damped second-order differential equations with several sub-linear neutral terms is considered. New sufficient conditions are established to fulfill a part of the gap in the oscillation theory for the case of sub-linear neutral equations. Our main results improve and generalize some of those recently published in the literature. Several examples are given to support our results.
