Abstract:A fixed point theorem is used to study a singular second order three-point boundary value problem. The problem is more general. Combining the method of constructing Green functions with operators defined piecewise, the existence result of positive solutions to a singular second order three-point boundary value problem is established. Abstract:We study the existence of multiple positive solutions for a nonlinear third-order differential equation subject to various nonlocal boundary conditions. The boundary conditions that we study contain Stieltjes integral and include the special cases of m-point conditions and integral conditions. The main tool in the proof of our result is Krasnosel’skii’s fixed point theorem. To illustrate the applicability of the obtained results, we consider examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the existence and multiplicity results of positive solutions for a boundary value problem of nonlinear fractional differential equations. The differential operator is taken in the Riemann-Liouville sense and the nonlinear term depends on the fractional derivative of an unknown function. We derive first the associated Green’s function and prove its properties. Consequently, the considered problem is deduced to an equivalent integral equation. Next, by means of the Leggett-Williams fixed point theory, we obtain the existence and multiplicity results of positive solutions.

Abstract:The existence of three solutions for nonlinear operator equations is established via index theory for linear self-adjoint operator equations, critical point reduction method, and three critical points theorems obtained by Brezis-Nirenberg, Ricceri, and Averna-Bonanno. Applying the results to second-order Hamiltonian systems satisfying generalized periodic boundary conditions or Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions and elliptic partial differential equations satisfying Dirichlet boundary value conditions, we obtain some new theorems concerning the existence of three solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of boundary value problems for a general second-order nonlinear difference equation, which includes a Jacobi operator and a parameter λ. Based on the critical point theory, we obtain the existence of three solutions for the boundary value problem. Then, we establish a strong maximum principle for this problem and obtain some determined open intervals of the parameter λ for the existence of at least two positive solutions. In the end, we give two examples to illustrate our main results.
