Abstract:Combustible components in municipal solid waste(MSW) was pyrolyzed on a lab-scale, externally heated moving bed reactor to simulate continuous pyrolysis process, in order to study the effect of temperature on pyrolysis products. The experimental system was in reliable performance, the error range of mass balance was between 10.28% and 12.15%. The higher the temperature, the more sufficiently the pyrolysis reaction. 93.49% of volatile in the MSW tested devolatilized below 500°C, and devolatilization process almost completed at 600°C, at which only 2.03% of volatile remained in solid component. When the pyrolysis temperature increased from 400°C to 600°C, in the products composition, the solid component decreased from 58.26% to 28.48%, the liquid condensate increased from 26.08% to 32.30%, as well as the pyrolytic gas component increased from 15.65% to 39.22%. During the pyrolysis process, the composition of the pyrolytic gas showed different variation tendency with temperature between 400°C and 600°C, and at the standard conditions, the gas heating value decreased from 5.5 × l04 kJ/m3 to 3.4 × 104 kJ/m3 and the gas density decreased from 1.83 kg/m3 to 1.35 kg/m3. Furthermore, the energy of the solid component decreased from 76.75% to 26.57%, while the energy of the volatile products increased from 23.25% to 73.43%.
