Abstract:In this paper, we consider the combined quasi-neutral and inviscid limits of the two-fluid compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson system in the unbounded domain R2xT with the ill-prepared initial data. We prove that the weak solutions of the compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson system converge to the strong solution of the incompressible Euler equation as long as the latter exists. Moreover, the convergence rates are also obtained.

Abstract:The paper develops a finite element method for the Navier-Stokes equations of incompressible viscous fluid in a time-dependent domain. The method builds on a quasi-Lagrangian formulation of the problem. The paper provides stability and convergence analysis of the fully discrete (finite-difference in time and finite-element in space) method. The analysis does not assume any CFL time-step restriction, it rather needs mild conditions of the form $\Delta t\le C$, where $C$ depends only on problem data, and $h^{2m_u+2}\le c\,\Delta t$, $m_u$ is polynomial degree of velocity finite element space. Both conditions result from a numerical treatment of practically important non-homogeneous boundary conditions. The theoretically predicted convergence rate is confirmed by a set of numerical experiments. Further we apply the method to simulate a flow in a simplified model of the left ventricle of a human heart, where the ventricle wall dynamics is reconstructed from a sequence of contrast enhanced Computed Tomography images.

Abstract:The quasineutral limit of compressible Navier–Stokes–Poisson system with heat conductivity and general (ill-prepared) initial data is rigorously proved in this paper. It is proved that, as the Debye length tends to zero, the solution of the compressible Navier–Stokes–Poisson system converges strongly to the strong solution of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations plus a term of fast singular oscillating gradient vector fields. Moreover, if the Debye length, the viscosity coefficients and the heat conductivity coefficient independently go to zero, we obtain the incompressible Euler equations. In both cases the convergence rates are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the global in time quasi-neutral limit for a two-fluid non-isentropic Euler–Poisson system in one space dimension. We prove that the system converges to the non-isentropic Euler equations as the Debye length tends to zero. This problem is studied for smooth solutions near the constant equilibrium state. To prove this result, we establish uniform energy estimates and various dissipation estimates with respect to the Debye length and the time. These estimates allow to pass to the limit to obtain the limit system by compactness arguments. In addition, the global convergence rate is obtained by use of stream function technique.

Abstract:In this paper, we justify the convergence from the two-species Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann (VPB, for short) system to the two-fluid incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson (NSFP, for short) system with Ohm’s law in the context of classical solutions. We prove the uniform estimates with respect to the Knudsen number ε for the solutions to the two-species VPB system near equilibrium by treating the strong interspecies interactions. Consequently, we prove the convergence to the two-fluid incompressible NSFP as ε goes to 0.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the inviscid limit problem to the higher dimensional incompressible Navier--Stokes equations in the whole space. It is shown in [Guo, Li, Yin: J. Funct. Anal., 276 (2019)] that given initial data $u_0\in B^{s}_{p,r}$ and for some $T>0$, the solutions of the Navier--Stokes equations converge strongly in $L^\infty_TB^{s}_{p,r}$ to the Euler equations as the viscosity parameter tends to zero. We furthermore prove the failure of the uniform (with respect to the initial data) $B^{s}_{p,r}$ convergence in the inviscid limit of a family of solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations towards a solution of the Euler equations.

Precisely, we proved the solution of the three-dimensional compressible two-fluid Euler–Maxwell equations converges locally in time to that of the compressible Euler equation as <inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">$ \varepsilon $</tex-math></inline-formula> tends to zero. This proof is based on the formal asymptotic expansions, the iteration techniques, the vector analysis formulas and the Sobolev energy estimates.</p>

Abstract:We consider the three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson system where the electric field of the internal electrostatic potential force is governed by the self-consistent Poisson equation. If the Fourier modes of the initial data are degenerate at the low frequency or the initial data decay fast at spatial infinity, we show that the density converges to its equilibrium state at the L 2 -rate (1 + t)^ - 74 or L ∞ -rate (1 + t)^ - 52 , and the momentum decays at the L 2 -rate (1 + t)^ - 54 or L ∞ -rate (1 + t ) −2 . These convergence rates are shown to be optimal for the compressible Navier-Stokes-Poisson system.

Abstract:For the one-species Vlasov-Poisson-Boltzmann (VPB) system in the scaling under which the moments of the fluctuations formally converge to the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier-Poisson (NSFP) system, we prove the uniform estimates with respect to the Knudsen number $\epsilon$ for the fluctuations. As a consequence, the existence of the global-in-time classical solutions of VPB with all $\epsilon \in (0,1]$ is established in whole space under small size of initial data, and the convergence to incompressible NSFP as $\epsilon$ go to 0 is rigorously justified.

Abstract:The incompressible limit of the weak solutions to a fluid-particle interaction model is studied in this paper. By using the relative entropy method and refined energy analysis, we show that, for well-prepared initial data, the weak solutions of the compressible fluid-particle interaction model converge to the strong solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations as long as the Mach number goes to zero. Furthermore, the desired convergence rates are also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the vanishing viscosity limit of one-dimensional isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity, to the isentropic compressible Euler equations. Based on several new uniform estimates to the viscous systems, in addition to the framework recently established by G. Chen and M. Perepelitsa, we justify that the finite energy solution of the isentropic compressible Euler equations for a large class of initial data can be obtained as the inviscid limit of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations even when the viscosity depends on the density.

Abstract:The present paper is concerned with an inviscid limit problem of radially symmetric stationary solutions for an exterior problem in to compressible Navier–Stokes equation, describing the motion of viscous barotropic gas without external forces, where boundary and far field data are prescribed, in particular, the flow velocity at the far field is assumed to be zero. For both inflow and outflow problems, the inviscid limit is considered in a suitably small neighborhood of the far field state. For the outflow problem, we prove the uniform convergence of the Navier–Stokes flow toward the corresponding Euler flow in the inviscid limit. On the other hand, for the inflow problem, we show that the Navier–Stokes flow uniformly converges toward a linear superposition of the corresponding boundary layer profile and the Euler flow in the inviscid limit. The estimates of algebraic rate toward the inviscid limit are also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the quasi-neutral limit of a 3D viscous capillary model for plasmas and semiconductors. Guided by the convergence-stability principle previously formulated by the second author for singular limit problems, we show that when the Debye length is sufficiently small, the initial value problem of the model has a unique smooth solution in the time interval where the corresponding incompressible Navier-Stokes equation has a smooth solution. When the latter has a global smooth solution, the maximal existence time for the former tends to infinity as the Debye length goes to zero. Moreover, we obtain the convergence of smooth solutions for the model towards those for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation in the quasi-neutral limit, with a sharp convergence rate.

Abstract:We prove the convergence of the vanishing viscosity limit of the one-dimensional, isentropic, compressible Navier-Stokes equations to the isentropic Euler equations in the case of a general pressure law. Our strategy relies on the construction of fundamental solutions to the entropy equation that remain controlled for unbounded densities, and employs an improved reduction framework to show that measure-valued solutions constrained by the Tartar commutation relation (but with possibly unbounded support) reduce to a Dirac mass. As the Navier-Stokes equations do not admit an invariant region, we work in the finite-energy setting, where a detailed understanding of the high density regime is crucial.
